I've only got Jack's loyalty quest left to go and then they're all done. I'm also about to totally bone Tali which is super awesome. I hope she's some exotic hottie underneath the suit.

Paragon default John Shepard Soldier (imported from ME1)
Thane, Miranda, and Samara dead. The rest lived. Lost a lot of my crew.

Renegade pig-ugly Jane Shepard Sentinel (imported from ME1)
It was a bloodbath.
Grunt, Miranda, Samara, Zaeed lived. The rest died.
Also forgot to activate the Geth, but he's not there anymore.
Saved a lot more of my crew though, including Yeoman Chalmers and the doctor woman.

I'm glad I played through it twice. There were whole chunks that were different in many ways, so it was cool to see that. And playing through as Renegade is without a doubt way more fun.

Overall, despite the game, story, graphics, pacing, voice acting, all being AAA, I can't help but feeling overall disappointed. The game is not a RPG anymore and ME2 is not as good as ME1.

There are parts of ME1 that I still think of with fond memories. Parts that were far better than anything in ME2 (as amazing as ME2 is at times).

I got fucking HOSED when my Shep boned Tali. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BIOWARE!!!

I think I'm about ready to complete the game now. All characters loyal, full Paragon, full ship upgrades. Let's do this so I can start with my arse-kicking Renegade female.

Played the opening sequences of this on a 360 and am officially blown away. I was watching FFXIII for a while and was thinking this is going to have to be amazing to get a rise out of me. As mentioned *officially* blown away. Must get this game but now feel compelled to play no 1. Is it as impressive? Holy crap ME2 looks amazing.

It's not as impressive technically, no way. It really is a different game, some areas for the better, others not so much.

The first ME has some pretty horrible technical problems (framerate shitting itself and the Mako being nigh on uncontrollable at times) but it's still worth playing through before ME2.

Choices you made in the first one carry over and are referred to in ME2 so it's well worth playing so you get the full story. I think a lot of the problems were fixed in the PC version (which I assume you'd be playing)? I loved ME despite it's problems, and if you just concentrate on the main quest, you can finish it pretty quickly. It has it's share of "holy fuck" moments as well and a fantastic ending.

ME is a true WRPG, ME2 is RPG lite but still awesome.

The dialog, voice acting and story telling in both is top notch.

Ta gents will start with ME1 which is el cheapo on Steam atm. ME2 was an awesome cinematic experience on 360 + 50" tv. One of the best starts to a game I've seen.

Um... I would personally say skip ME1. The main story bits are great, but all the XP gathering is fucking horrible. I know, because I did every single side planet. Woeful.

I probably won't want to deviate from the main plot too much and will skip the side quests. I really just want the back-story and I was so impressed with ME2 that I reckon I'll enjoy it. :)

But they were a shitload better than planet scanning.

It's a tough one, I personally love the original game and while the sequel is overall a much better game, there were aspects of the original that I preferred. I wouldn't skip the original personally. Otherwise moments in ME2 won't seem as big a deal as they are.

You can get through the main story in ME1 quite quickly anyway.

I'm really enjoing this now, wasn't that excited by the first few hours but some of the characters (Mordin) are great and the locations are amazing.

Bought Mass Effect 2 cause of all the positive reviews and loved the hell outta it, could not get into the first game at all to be honest. After i finished ME2 i rebought the 1st again and i need to start it from scratch and finish it.

Mass effect 2 shits on Heavy Rain easily, ME1 though that's a interesting subject i've got to admit i'll get back to you on that when i eventually finish ME1.

Has anyone had this game crash on them like crazy?

I just did the Jack loyalty mission, and now the fucker crashes every time I try to restart the game. Got through to the next section and reloaded and it's STILL crashing. Haven't tried any of my earlier saves yet (but I should/will), but I did play GTA4 for half an hour to prove it's not the 360 itself... at least I hope it's not. Fucking 360s. Fucking Mass Effect. I hope I can continue my save, was not too far from the end few missions....

Strange, it's never crashed on me and I've done the Jack loyalty mission.

Isolated incident.
