Fuckin' capitalist communist leftie right wing pigs. Ah well, it will probably reset again soon and we can jihad for our fundie theocracy again.
It's not bad fun even with just two people playing (plus it's good for some cash) but you really need to consider the type of mech you take out. We had 2 snipers roaming around a very urban area with lots of buildings in the way - we couldn't fight the other guys at an appropriate range and screwed up a little because of it.
We did better on the one before though. Killed their scout, very nearly killed their base defender, and were poised to kill the base itself when we ran out of time...
Still, we won 'em all because we took the COMBAS towers and we picked up some cash. Not bad.

looks like sal kar has made a bit of a comeback, we control the capital again, I think the others saw it was taken and decided to do something about it.
also I found a handy little tip that'll help when fighting those defenders with holming missiles

Anti missile system: nice to have if you know that you go up against an enemy you likes to use homing missiles.

I've been spending ages in the garage just screwing around with my mechs. I think I've got one now which will be more suited to those urban environments and attacking bases - it's fairly slow but packs a greater mid to close range whallop. Still prefer to use my sniper though, which is really a sniper come mid range soldier. I also have a commander soldier defender thing which is a bit crap and needs some work, and I plan on trying to make a quick scout with maybe a couple of those pile things for capturing COMBAS towers and attacking bases.

I bought some Sal Kari parts for my Commander dude - a new cockpit, lighter 4 legged base, and a lighter NA maker. It's now a little less armoured but far more mobile (has the same weapons as before, which are adequate for backing you guys up at a distance).
My stupidly powerful but slow as piss mech proved to be a little pointless. I think I'll stick with my soldier sniper for the small ones.
The other countries are still picking on us...

Well there is a population imbalance so no wonder they're picking on sal kar first. Sega need to work on balancing things a bit, possibly scaling things in relation to the population, to prevent people from changing sides and making it a 2 sided war.
It was fun last night, my mech got a beef up with some new weapons, but for a soldier i still feel a little weak on the armour side, i couldn't take a lot of hits compared to the enemy. I'm probably missing something, how do you beef up your armour?

Use heavier parts? The heavier stuff usually has a higher armour rating (but that will make you slower of course). You can also add extra pieces of armour - Sal Kar have a good lighweight armour piece in the shop which looks like a slightly curved panel. You could add one to the outside of each arm to protect your weapons a bit.

As for killing the other mechs - yeah, it's far more work than the average enemy crap you come across. Fast moving scouts can be finished off pretty quickly if you can hit 'em, soldiers and snipers take some effort, but the types of mech you're likely to meet near the enemy base will be much harder to kill. They will be the well armoured defenders and heavy gunner types, which don't need to move quickly.
The only thing I'd suggest in setting up your weapons is that you have them grouped appropriately. If you have a group that has only one weapon in it, it's not likely to do as much damage as any other group with 3 weapons in it. So unless it's for a special purpose (base bombs, small arms to take out piss weak enemy) then it's not worth switching to. You'd be better off adding another one of the same weapon to an existing group that you use more frequently.

i'm not sure what I should do.
as a sniper I have 2 sniper rifles in 2 weapon slots, but they run out pretty fast (i'm carrying as much ammo as it will allow), then I have a multi rocket launcher for close combat, and bombs to take out a base.
taking out the enemy seems to be more important, so I might swap the bombs/balls for even more rockets (they do mucho damage).
also, lighter legs? what are they called and where can i get them?
at the moment i'm so damn slow, my turret speed is pathetic too, sniping fast-ish enemies is almost impossible
