Re: OculusRift
Anyone seen the new Steam VR Home? I was just trying Destinations for the first time, only to realise Steam has now made this the default home behaviour. And I actually found it pretty cool. I had no idea what it was but pretty much within a minute I was in a room with some other VR users, just messing about basically. Looking around the location, creating and moving furniture, companion cubes and beach balls everywhere.
I didn't have sound turned on, but the mic was. Some guys weren't using their mic, but had sound. And so this fun little communication system developed. I'm asking yes/no questions, they're nodding (you can see their headsets' motion), thumbs-upping, etc. One guy drew "No mic" in the air.... which you can pick up and throw around. I'd say I definitely found it more pleasant not hearing others, yet knowing they could hear me.
Geocaching in VR. Find stuff to add to your toys. It was just cool to see a guy in VR flying a drone around, and audibly say "Hey, see if I can grab it" then watching him fly the drone over to me at which point I plucked it out of the air. One guy had the robo-sniper head from TF2. It's like Miis or whatever consoles do with avatars... but funner.
Lag was a bit janky though.
On that note, one pretty neat moment for me was going to a place in Destinations in Barcelona that I've actually been to in reality. Some of the locations were rough, not done well. But some are immediately convincing enough, easily.
I'm still completely sold on VR's potential. I just wish it wasn't such a long wait for better tech. I want this generation to pass already.

Re: OculusRift
Need to get back into VR. Since re-arranging my desk I haven't set the sensors up properly. I mean, they're all plugged in etc I just haven't gotten around to running the set-up program within Oculus again

Re: OculusRift
I played through Lone Echo last week really enjoyed it. Traversing around in zero g where you can grab onto any surface and use it to propel you forward is a big step forward for VR games. I really enjoyed it. Only 5-6 hours long though unfortunately.

New model Vive? Only a few days to find out.
Hoping for 4K and WAY better FOV.

Interesting.
But more money for a new headset. More money for a stronger machine to support it. Uff.

True, which is why it’s mostly for hardcore VR fans or those who like to throw around a lot of money.
If it’s a 4K screen, I wonder if they’ll let games take advantage of that and render at 4K and not upscale the content.
8K Pimax on Kickstarter.

http://au.ign.com/articles/2018/01/08/c ... s-vive-proAnnounced today during CES, the Vive Pro has a combined resolution of 2880 x 1600 using dual OLED screens, a "78% increase in resolution" over the current generation HTC Vive headset.
The Vive Wireless Adapter works with both the Vive and the Vive Pro, and uses Intel's WiGig wireless technology. It promises low "latency and better performance" using the 60Ghz wireless band.
Other improvements to the headset include "dual microphones with active noise cancellation," as well as a set of front-facing cameras "designed to empower developer creativity." The new headset also has a redesigned strap built around "enhanced ergonomics."
Currently playing: Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition (PC), Far Cry 4 (PC), FIFA 23 (Series X)
Re: OculusRift
Hmm what do we think that will land at cost wise? What would it need to be able to run dual oleds hardware wise?

The previous Vive and Rift used dual OLED panels, one for each eye, but with this new update they increased the resolution of the panels.
970 was the entry requirement on Vive/Rift, but 970s are getting on in age, would recommend a 1070 with a decent CPU.

Anyone else get $20 credit because the Rift went down for less than a day?
Picked up the Superhot VR + Arizona Sunshine Duo Pack. Two games for less than the price of one even before you factor in the $20 discount!

Yep I got one as well.
Good to see they finally updated the app so you can move game installations around to different drives. Took all my VR stuff off the SSD.

Jeeezuz..... Who's got that kind of money to throw around? + a decent computer... smh.
Re: OculusRift
I think that's pretty good when the original is still near 1k, makes it an easy choice when I go to jump in, it's going to go with the Pro for a few hundy more.

That's the price of the headset only right? Pass. At least until there is better content available

Headset with controllers I believe. Edit: now I’m not sure, could just be the headrest only...Rorschach wrote:That's the price of the headset only right? Pass. At least until there is better content available
They were going for up to 2k and sometimes more on eBay, for the original vive/rift when the hype began.

Re: OculusRift
The headset and the screen resolution were the 2 biggest things the Vive needed improved imo. But that said, there's still not much compelling me to get the upgrade. Mainly because I've already seen Elite Dangerous struggle with supersampling on a GTX1070, so it leaves me unsure how well my PC would even handle the extra work.
But another big reason is that the VR scene sadly just isn't there yet, games-wise.

Re: OculusRift
I wonder what oculus has cooked up? I don’t think it’s worth the upgrade.Few generations later, possibly. FOV and resolution is still holding it back and that’s not even thinking about content.

Oculus looks to be targeting the mobile market (Oculus Go) for some silly reason. Boo-urns.

Re: OculusRift
So I'm getting more into the VR stuff and now I've got the itch to upgrade from the original retail Oculus to either the Rift S, Vive Pro or Valve Index.
Only concern - compability with all my Oculus games if I get a non-Rift S headset.
