I see no such tab. And seriously - when you guys get something from the store, does it kick you to the download list or keep you in the store?

hold the phones... I agree with mech. The 'bone UX is dreadful, especially when you consider that MS pretty much nailed it with the 360.
...anyway, yes it kicks me to the download queue when I get something from the store.

Re: Official Xbox One Thread | Official Console of the Ranch
I just grab everything via the website or glass and then let my xbone dl it. Mainly because I have no time to play games... So I have a collection of free games!
Re: Official Xbox One Thread | Official Console of the Ranch
Got it - press 'B' and you'll head back to where you were in the store.
I had to manually search for the free games. So weird.
Not trying to be negative here - I'm excited to own a Xbox One, the exclusive content over the past 12 months has definitely made it a worthy purchase. The UI is a hot fucking mess though, I appreciate them trying to add some cool extra functionality, but I think Sony hit the nail on the head here on what people actually use, and made it a much nicer experience. We'll see if I get used to it though - I disliked the PS4 experience over PS3 when I got it, but got used to it pretty quickly.
Assassin's Creed Unity looks amazing - looks way more 'next-gen' that most (all?) titles I've played, even with the framerate hitches.
And finally get to play Peggle 2 - used the last of my credit on the AU store to get it, and it's full of microtransactions, wtf? Still awesome fun though.

Hear hear. Even when the 360 dash got worse, it was still great. The Blades UI was my favorite though.unfnknblvbl wrote:hold the phones... I agree with mech. The 'bone UX is dreadful, especially when you consider that MS pretty much nailed it with the 360.

The xbone ui is horrible. You'll never get used to it, you'll just find ways to get around it. Kinect vocal navigation makes things pretty frigging easy.
What microtransactions in Peggle? I played and completed it with everything and didn't get stung for money. There is some extra character dlc I believe.

No defence here for the Xbone UI. Absolutely mind breaking at times.

...and achievements. And pins.
Also, for some reason it takes forever to connect to my wireless network when I turn it on. I often can't access stuff for up to five minutes after I turn the machine on. Ugh.

I basically hate the whole "launch an app for everything" situation. It's slow and annoying.

I'm comfortable getting around the XBONE interface now, but only because I've had 12 months to figure out how shit it is and where everything is located.
+1 for Blades, would love to see them back!

Yeh apps shits me, I want as much shit integrated in the dash as possible.
I think things will get a lot better, it has already improved a fair bit and they were always working on the 360 experience.
Make sure you find some sexy achievement art to set as the background, dash looks so boring with that black background.

Re: Official Xbox One Thread | Official Console of the Ranch
The decision to make these components apps is all about future proofing the system for future changes/upgrades. This is just the way OS development works now, you don't want too much stuff baked into a monolithic process/kernel. It's a nightmare to change/modify without breaking the whole thing.Cletus wrote:+1Madmya wrote:I really wish Friends wasn't an app.

MS have done a massive number of feature upgrades this year, would not of been possible without the component approach they did.
I expect them to refine and improve performance in the next year, also removing Kinect meant rethinking navigation without voice commands. But hey some people prefer dvd player menus and stability updates.

now that's some serious spin. I agree that as a general rule, modular is better, but we're talking about something that's had a net negative impact on the customer experience.

Re: Official Xbox One Thread | Official Console of the Ranch
I can't speak for how convenient it is for M$ to update my Xbone. All I know is I hate having to navigate to friends and party and achievements. So much so that even though I'd love to know what achievements I've unlocked while I'm playing I just flatly will not launch the app. I have to launch an app to see the achievement I've just unlocked. There's no joy in that process at all. You should be getting an achievement just for being patient enough to launch the app.

I hate that achievements load as a snapped app. I enjoyed the old achievement app... Took me ages to work out how to run it unsnapped, and not launching the game I was previously in... New unsnapped version looks like shit.

Re: Official Xbox One Thread | Official Console of the Ranch
I know how much people bitch when I change things on the board, people hate change. I ran into 2 mates yesterday, both of them are still stuck on ios6 because they hate change on IOS.
The fact we still have people lamenting the loss of blades is proof enough.
Ironically the current ui does the same thing with pages scrolling from left to right(blade = tab), you can select pins page to the store page, similar to what blades did.

Blades is overrated. It's ugly and archaic. Nice points lestat, I hadn't thought of it from that perspective.

It's true I guess, tabs and blades are the same thing.
Still hate unnecessary apps, especially the terminals in halo MCC, activate one and it takes you to the halo channel app where you have to stream the video.

Holy shit that's lame! Especially if you've got a shit internet connection, the video is a pixellated mess!
Re: Official Xbox One Thread | Official Console of the Ranch
I don't know what everyone's complaining about. The Xbox 360 had a pretty good UI when it first launched, and clearly the goal since then has been to fuck it up as much as possible. The Xbone UI is a master class in poor design, and I for one applaud MS for sticking to their guns.
