Picked up a MSI Gaming X 1070 from Harvey Norman. Complete impulse buy because 24 months interest free. Looked at the 1080 but more than I need and looking towards getting a 1180Ti anyway. 980Ti will go in the work build.

Yes as long as it's not overheating. Mine runs 100% in Apex and Horizon but somewhere in the mid 50s/low 60s. Just poorly optimised

Anyone here running a r9 390? They're pretty line ball with a reference rx 480 albeit with more heat and power. Considering a Gigabyte r9 390 8gb so I can drop a few more dollars into less static parts such as PSU or motherboard.

Think most here run Nvidia cards. Last gen tech so less support in the future, but still, save some money.

Nearly finished the work build, just waiting on the new gpu.

Master Race gaming thread

The 390 supports all the dx12 features of the 480 as well as vulkan. But yeah the newer platform will probably get more tweaks in future. By then I'd probably be looking to upgrade. 480s are a more viable crossfire option though. The recommended power for 2 x 390s is 1000w.

Besides power, that's a shit tonne of heat. If you can afford it, I'd stay with the 480

Yep. Added GPU expense is offset by PSU savings anyway.

Plus support for SLI/Crossfire can be spotty, always safer to go for a powerful single gpu

This 1070 is pretty bloody quiet. Very impressed, basically a 980ti in terms of real world performance.

I have no 4K content to watch and prefer to game at max detail at 60fps on TV. Once more powerful hardware comes out I'll upgrade.

Master Race gaming thread

Post by Rorschach »

Love Phanteks cases. Easy to build in and premium quality. The Luxe was a much nicer building experience due to the abundance of space but the Evolv feels a lot more premium due to all of the aluminium in the frame. My only complaint with the Evolv is the lack of modularity (if that's a word). The Luxe lets you remove HDD cages with a simple screw whereas the Evolv you have to take the frame apart and remove each piece. Still, minor complaint. Looking forward to years of building in each case.

Edit - The Luxe, in all its glory. Such a good case. Looking forward to upgrading the desk next month

I'm looking at desks in anticipation for my screen. Are you looking at anything in particular?

Saw this one today at Officeworks - http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/offi ... jbstidsk18" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Was thinking of getting a corner desk but I think a little limited in placement in other rooms.

Yeah fair enough I just want something simple like that anyway so long as it has a way to manage the cables. Ta

It has a cable management hole in the middle. What I like is the 10 year warranty, solid build too.
