Re: Master Race gaming thread
I definitely was. My Asus bios screen sits there for about ten seconds. I just timed it. From there to the password screen I get just over 6 seconds. I did cut out a few unnecessary programs at start up though.
Re: Master Race gaming thread
And remember I'm running Windows 7 so...
I'm really considering upgrading to Windows 8.
I totally should, I'm used to it now, that would improve boot time hey?

Re: Master Race gaming thread
Yeah windows 8 boots up quicker, it's pretty much quicker overall I find.
Re: Master Race gaming thread
It's sorted then.
Man, I've got this audio interface called 'Komplete Audio 6' and it's a fucking travesty.
That's two shit audio interfaces I've bought so far.
I've got to stop buying them based on price point and features and start buying them based on the DRIVER SUPPORT.
I think I should do some research about which interface has the best support for Windows 8 and get that.

Re: Master Race gaming thread
I did also update my bios last night - whether that made any difference or not I can't say.

Could be, sometimes my bios takes a while too. Windows 7 though.lestat wrote:My PC lingers in bios screens more than actually booting. Maybe the times itch is quoting include the bios?

Re: Master Race gaming thread
So my pirate copy of windows 8.1 is telling me the license is nearly expired. I figure I might as well just buy a legitimate copy of it and was wondering what my easiest options are. Can I just buy a retail 8.1 from JB or something and just punch the key into win 8.1 and keep on trucking? Or am I looking at a reinstall if I want to go down that route?

Re: Master Race gaming thread
depends if they're exactly the same or not. You can go to control panel- system and security - system and then you get an option to change product key or upgrade. It might be cheaper to buy from the Good Guys or JB but it also might be less hassle to upgrade/install through Windows itself.
Re: Master Race gaming thread
Ah true I didn't really think to do it through windows itself, my pc has been mostly offline lately except for when I tether my phone to it, so I guess I didn't drill down very far when online related stuff popped up. Might tether tonight and check it out, I'd probably end up happier to pay the premium just to renew with a legit license and everything else stayed the same.Cletus wrote:depends if they're exactly the same or not. Re: Master Race gaming thread
Just had another look, only two options I've got are to activate windows online, which doesn't do anything - and to enter a new product key, so I might just find the best price I can physically and then try entering the new key. Best case it just activates and I keep going, worst case I guess I might just have to do a reinstall.
Re: Master Race gaming thread
FYI, it's currently cheaper to buy 8.1 Pro from JB HiFi ($128) than it is to buy 8.1 Pleb from anywhere I've seen recently. I'd go the clean install myself.
