I must say, Generations is a bit of fun - at least the original themed levels. Wish they had the original physics though.

Hehe.. I remember how we all hated the physics when the game came out. It was the only thing I hated about the remade levels.

I still find it hard to believe Nintendo would publish news on Sonic. Imagine telling that to the Sega fanboys back in the early 90s.

If they are going to do something big I say they just copy nintendo and bring on Sonic Maker much like mario maker.

Outsource it to nintendo to create and then let sega make all the future F-zero titles. From henceforth only make Sonic Kart games. Those were actually pretty decent. Oh and bring on Phantasy Star Online 2 for NX launch. There are no monster hunter games on home console systems nowadays. Now is sega's chance to start filling this gap that exists for people who prefer the big screen over the portable.

It is also time nintendo made their own online mario loot game. (ie nintendo's attempt at borderlands or diablo dungeon crawler) Toad is the treasure tracker but Mario explores the sewers and fights.
Make mario into a realistic human character that goes into the sewers and finds mutants and scary monsters that have mutated from the radiation in the water supply and you have to work your way through all the tunnels to kill the thing that is spawning them all. (use scary lighting similar to luigi's mansion) Bowser (as a mutant) is the cause of it all and like Diablo it requires the efforts of 4 players to effecitvely beat him (but he is nerfed in solo mode). Unlike Diablo the combat would be more like Dark Souls and the camera would be third person behind the bum view.

GameHED you post so much shit it's almost mind-numbing...but Sonic Maker is a really, really good idea.

The only time we can expect another GOOD 2D Sonic game.

You could argue the debug mode form the first sonic game effectively gave us a kinda edit tool.

Wouldn't require that much effort to make an official tool to quickly design stages using existing old school 16 bit assets from old sonics. So many sonic fans whine and complain how crap things are so maybe it's time to let them design the stage, but let nintendo do all the physics? Maybe even include a music tool to create your own electronic music (designed with megadrive sound chip) for each stage?

Nintendo still keep physics to all their games which is why you don't see complaints for NSMB games. That's why if sega work in collaboration with nintendo similar to capcom with snk, I think we might have a dream sonic title.
ie capcom has their own Capcom vs Snk game made by them, while SNK has their SNK vs Capcom game. If one of them fails you at least please half of the fans.

Nintendo have been making traditional 2d games for ages. There is no reason NOT to let them handle that part of it. But sega can control the way characters behave as in the personality of the new characters they create. So sega still controls sonic's "lore" while nintendo does all the technical "under the hood" stuff that gives us back the feel of older 2d games. Then fans design stages without the need to be programmers so they can jump in to the fun shit immediately.

Sony came up with the platform creation kit idea with LBP franchise but nintendo seemed to have the physics down and refined that. Now the next big project sega should do is work with nintendo to create the "Sonic Maker" franchise. (does not interfere with the new 3d games)

And after this, they can make a 8bit platform creation kit with wonderboy, psycho fox, alex kidd assets etc for portables. (release to the mobile market) Games like shovel knight show there is still interest in the retro 80s platformers too. (and lets not forget how many people loved the 80s megaman, and the sequel that were made to look like NES games released in current day just because of nostalgia. Old people still prefer 2D!)

Nintendo made an online dungeon crawling loot game. WTF are you talking about? It's f2p on the Wii U.

Lost Reavers is a ok-ish first attempt. But a paid triple A game is what I mean. F2P games are different audience that wishes to pay to win. (I know loot games exist that are F2p that are good, take Warframe for example, but I mean pay for the game, then play online free similar to monster hunter)

Did you know Boogie recently got hacked?
The SJW are trying to kill gamers all over the internet who are older and still remember the days when games were still good and needed skill to actually complete the games. (SJW want games to be too easy causing sequels to suck because they are entitled and this is what happened to sonic the hedghog. He is a generation X character who has attitude and isn't inclusive because he is skilled and extreme and does stuff that is hard to do. That's what made him "cool" because unlike mario you needed good reflexes to react to danger in order to prgress much like being good at pinball or sports)

The gaming websites said "gamers are dead", and these attempt to rob gamers on youtube of income is a conspiracy to make gaming dumb, similar to dumbing down schools to make it easy to brainwash little kids. If we can take back gaming from the SJWs sonic games won't suck as bad and players will go back to needing skill to win and titles like Mighty No.9 will be designed to cater to hardcore gamers rather than casuals.
Timing jumps and dashes to avoid death and waiting for just the right moment when the boss has openings and exploiting the weaknesses of the enemies who have limits and can't attack certain parts of the stage is how I remember the old days of gaming. Today it's all about the speed run and point bonuses. Not sure I like that direction as it means the core is dumbed down a bit. Worked for Doom though. But Doom was already simple in gameplay so the fast pace doesn't take away from the carefully measured movements needed to live in the game.
Since there are less hardcore than casuals this idea of dumbing down a franchise is a common problem as businesses want to reach more people. But there is a way you can satisfy both groups by having easy modes or different characters that have more powers.

Take castlevania games for instance. In the RPG castlevannia games you can be a guy that slowly levels up and gets cool things to help him survive so it's a slow burn title where patience is rewarded with loot. But when you do all that, and get tired of dominating the enemies with your overpowered character, options exist to be a character that is stuck on stats that are average and you need more player skill to beat up the bosses which makes it feel more arcadey and punishing to keep you on your toes. It adds more tension to old battle you already fought ad makes you feel like a bad arse for beating them with a character that doesn't need magic or gear to overcome challenges. (and adds replayability when you get tired of being overpowered) This is the future of how you make good long lasting titles where you actually want to revisit and unlock stuff because it can be relaxing (exploring places and solving puzzles) and pulse pounding in equal measure. (ie boss battles that feel epic because you don't get hit due to having trained on them for long time to get the pattern down and survive with shit gear or stats that are stuck on average)

Games in the future may go the way movies have gone where movies stop being interesting anymore, then sales decline:
In gaming it's in the form of remakes and then overdoing the remakes but not pushing ahead with new stuff for the older audiences to want to keep buying. (sonic is the canary in the coalmine)

Oh and a new 3D Sonic from the team behind Colours and Generations featuring both Sonics... That's cool!

Look Sonic Mania looks to be awesome but ugh I'm over retro inspired graphics. It frustrates me.

I kind of wish they'd stop channeling the 8bit machines and the Genesis colour palette. I wish we'd get more games with a SNES vibe, that was the console from my childhood.

You know Sonic was never available on the SNES, right?

...on the other hand, I'm cautiously optimistic about this. Christian Whitehead's involvement gives it a lot of cred - it means that if it's using the Retro Engine, it'll at least have the right physics.

I'm hyped. Taxman wouldn't sell out. All the jaded bitterness is brushed aside by his involvement. If I get totally let down, fine, but now, this time I am hyped.

Ah sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were asking for a Sonic game with a more SNES-like colour palette.

The retro game looks good. No bandages.

The 25th anniversary should have launched with a Sonic Collections pack imo.

This way today's kids can see all the games in one gift pack not just hear about them from old people.

For those who wee SNES fans, it was mostly Megaman X 1-3 that defined the system in terms of cool mascots. Best Rock/metal music, cool animation, colouful graphics, better looking universe than old megaman. It just didn't have the physics of marios. But what you got was a sense of "just one more go" to experiment with the different weapons that change your approach. (with backgound effected by what order you kill bosses in that makes each playthrough feel different/easier/harder)
90s was the best time for platfom for mascots.
There are still fangames being made of Megaman X using SNES visual style:
Very soon the sequel to Gunvolt will be out on 3DS (so buy this to show support for retro SNES style games if you miss them so much)
IntiCeates are the guys behind megaman zero 1-4, ZX, ZX:A, Megaman 9, Megaman 10 etc
If capcom let them have the character you'd still see 16-bit style megaman games today instead of this spiky haired cyberpunk kid who jumped stright out of a Final Fantasy game into sci-fi world.
