Some new Alien structures were found last night on the PC version and the community have been working together to try and solve the mystery. All versions share the same map.

You need a stick of some kind. As mentioned earlier in the thread there are some good cheap options if you don't have a HOTAS. There's a Logitech stick that will do what you need and it's generally under $30.

This just came out for PS4 the other day. (I've upgraded to Pro recently) As I opened my email and got the message from EBGames to tell me about it I laughed and wondered why are they telling me about an old game I remember cletus raving about so long ago when it is 2017 and Star Fox already came out on Wii U to make us forget about Elite?

I thought this was only supposed to be exclusive Bone game? Might finally try it out.

I feel sorry for people playing this on pc where they are just used as beta testers and there was barely any content in the game to call it a full game. Now that it's on the men's platforms it is ready for the wider public to finally play and see if its worth the hype like No Man's Sky which was beaten by Galak-Z. Once Star Citizen comes out this game will probably be ignored due to being too much of a truck sim and not enough of an action exploration space game like SC. (don't believe NASA, space is full of dangerous beings that want earth destroyed, not an empty place with boring uninhabited planets. They just say that to keep the public in the dark so they can get all the advanced alien lost technology for themselves - don't trust anything your teachers told you as they just repeat what they were lied to about)

This. I bought a HOTAS when I got Elite, you cannot beat that feeling the first time you dock in the space port, the grin in my face. Just needed a hairy wookie sitting next to me.

What HOTAS controllers are people using? I'm looking now at a Saitek X52 or a Thrustmaster T.16000M TCS with throttle.

Saitek X55 Rhino

Burnz has an X52. Neither of us have any complaints.

Whatever you buy, make sure it has yaw. The Thrustmaster Warthog does not...you'd need a pedal set up for it and it's about the most expensive one out there.

Thrustmaster (Warthog) has a pretty amazing build qualerty..Not sure that the T.16000M TCS with throttle is anything near that level though. The Rhino is pretty much the next level down from the Warthog. I did a fair bit of research when I bought mine. The lack of yaw on the Warthog was a deal breaker. At a glance I'd say the T.16000M is probably a bit better than the X52.

Going to get a cheap Logitech to begin with because the local EB has one. If I see it making Elite more playable than on the controller I'll invest in a nicer HOTAS when I'm in Japan (they love their controllers over there).

That was what I did. I think it was the logitech extreme 3d pro. The difference to a pad or kbam was amazing. I think Candy and Hercy also ended up buying the 3Dpro too. From there I decided to invest in a HOTAS.

That was a very worthy purchase. Makes the game a hell of lot easier to control than a controller or KBAM. Spent 4 hours playing it now trying not to run out of fuel.

The toggle is perfect for throttle and reverse. Just leave a bit of deadzone in the middle. I posted screenshots earlier in the thread mapping the logitech. It's a comfortable stick.

Just picked this up in the sale, not for ED itself, but because it's apparently a good VR title.

Quick question: I've heard ED is good with voice controls. Anyone know if the Vive's mic can serve this purpose?

In the context of VR, three things stand out:
1. Oh boy, the low res is a killer. I'm a big VR advocate but Elite Dangerous is another case for how this gen's resolution is borderline. I need to mess with supersampling, which I imagine will mean dropping the visuals' quality a fair bit just to make the text more readable. Squeezing a GTX 1070 to make text readable. Nice.

As much as ED in VR brings the nausea, I'm avoiding playing it on a screen because I think it will then spoil me.

2. I've only done a few training missions and basically tried to get an idea of where I can and can't push the motion sickness. I find this interesting, as I see there is a way to get less sick from the same actions simply by directing your eyes to the right places. If I free-cam around the ship, anything that causes the background to move across the screen brings on the nausea. Other movement however (like zooming in/out) doesn't. But inside the ship, the background is always moving and yet there's a way to avoid the motion sickness. Something to do with just not looking outside... or something?

But seriously, I think we aren't going solve the nausea problem without either a) training, or b) pills.

3. I think this is the first VR game I've played without the Vive controllers. I really missed them. They are easily a big part of the fun. It was frustrating to see those motionless arms in the game while thinking "But I have arms! I can move my hands around!"
Obviously the Vive wands just don't have the versatility for the game's controls though. Rift controllers... maybe.

I think we used "voice attack" for voice control...I dont see why the mic would be a problem. It works pretty well if you bother to record your own commands

Is Elite an MMO thing like Eve or is it singleplayer?

My understanding is that it's MMO, but combat is first person and full control of the ship.

You'd think I know more but I'm playing through it very slowly; haven't even completed the training missions yet.

It's an MMO...kind of. But space is quite big apparently. You could play for weeks and months and not actually see another real person.

Re: Elite Dangerous

I don't think of it as an MMO.

In fact it's supposed to be a single player game mostly but with multiplayer options. Because it's a kickstarter project it doesn't have the resources of triple A game developer so don't expect them to be able to handle amazing online experience.

Really what elite is at the heart of it is a space simulator with trading as the emphasis but over time people want it to be more than that and hope it can be less boing/serious and closer to an adventure in space like star wars or even a war in space like Macross/Gundam and other space realted shows where there are scary things to see and kill.

I think by doing that it is going beyond what elite should be which is space pirate/trader/bounty hunter simulator with ships.

With the horizons expansion you can now land on moons but the surfaces are boring unlike No Man's Sky. (the sony pony's overhyped Elite killer LOL)

Until nintendo make my Bounty Hunter Simulator using the Metroid Federation Force title on the Switch I guess this game will have to do.

For those who are playing on the PS4 I noticed there is no bloody manual and you need to actually hunt it down on the internet:

https://d1wv0x2frmpnh.cloudfront.net/el ... st_PS4.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For fucks sake: can't Sony mandate that ALL developers must put the manuals in-game (newer patches update the manuals as new content is included) or at the dashboard like 3DS games? Why the fuck should I have to get the manual from a PC when it takes sweet fuck all effort for them to just put it on the game?????? :down:
I tried to download the PDF manual from the PS4's own browser and it said the format isn't supported by the PS4 browser LOL So that means I can't even learn how to play the game if I didn't own a pc and only owned a PS4. Meaning I have to go to the local library view it there just to see the fucking manual of the game which I paid for! hahaha and you guys make fun of nintendo for its online services. :lol: At least you can read how to play the games you buy from the screen itself instead of having to buy a pc just to download the PDF file to view it.

Having said that I found a good noob guide from youtuber called ObsidianAnt:
Black Markets, Smuggling, and the Dweller:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAjOxlfnI68" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Materiel Hunting for Weapon Upgrades:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTbo31hXG6k" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Enhanced Weapons:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FP4FdOV9FVY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

...and I imagine he will add even more noob guides for sony's audience as time goes on. Lot of good stuff for those who just joined from the PS4. (is this game crossplay like Final Fantasy 14? )

also there are some good combat tutorials from Vindicator Jones (playlist):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hElXzAr ... UhGbObjl_M" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Won't be going online because I don't want to get killed by PKers. It would be good if Volition came back to the space sim genre and gave us Saints Row in space and beat rockstar to it. You would be Johhny Gat clone and command 3D printed sex robots to fight aliens. The space fighters would transform into robots so you could land on the planets and destroy cities on the ground level. It would feature the ship in saints row 3 and you could recruit aliens to your human gang. The game would be light in tone sort of like cowboy bebop anime and castle of cagliostro. Make my game.

Once Bethesda's Starfield game comes out, I don't think Elite will be able to survive. Elder Scrolls in space sounds more interesting to me than flying around empty galaxy with nothing to kill. What Elite needs is the nintendo magic of fun things to do in it. Because it is only a sim, it has to stay loyal to the original which was mostly about trading.

Braben if he is smart needs to think about making a whole new space sim that focuses on arcadey space combat and instead of giving us a whole galaxy to wander around in, it is limited to a few star systems but the game has cities you can go to and very busy battles. Less exploration but more NPC interactions and alien races. Zelda Breath of the Wild could get away with an empty world because it was not a RPG game like Witcher3 or Dragon Age. It was an adventure and exploration game mainly. What Braben need to do is think about makig a space adventure action game that lets you live in the world not just trade in it. Like the game "Fantasy Life" but in space. That's what I think people want. And Elite is only going to satisfy those who think of it as mainly a space sim not an action adventure in space. (ie Cowboy Bebop and otherspace western animes. What people want is Red Dead Redemption but with ships.)

Probably won't buy a HOTAS to play this. I have enough skill to do it with the pad. One thing I think would be cool is if you could pilot a little drone that can fly and explore little caves deep inside the planets surface which are abandoned alien bases whose security systems are still operational and you have to loot the place with the flying drone. You would land on the planet/moon, drop the drone to go into the caves/ruins/aien abandoned base, then control the drone to explore what's inside the cave and map out the interior of the caves and upload this to your ship. As you encounter alien robots which are trying to kill you, you can shoot back with the drone and maybe if you know the languages and have the hacking tools open all the doors to find files which can allow you to make better ships or learn more lore about the universe. Currently there is a moon buggy but I am thinking they could have a drone that is mostly for getting deep underground and exploring tiny caves and tunnels and ancient structures which are too small for the buggy. It would mostly be very dark so you could only see a certain distance and have the feel of old games like doom with narrow corridors and a sense of isolation being down there inside the planet. (not just on the surface of the planet)

Then later they can introduce things like drilling machines and destructible environments which lets you access the secrets of the alien races who put all their best inventions in secret chambers where only the elite class had access to and was not common knowledge to the entire race. (sort of like black ops technology for the non-humans)
Once you get these secret documents you can reverse engineer their best tech, make your own ships that are better than the humans and then kill all the factions singlehandedly like a super saiyan. (call the ship the Nimbus) This would be the end game content for when you got sick of the game. The ship you have would be overpowered and you exit the galaxy to find new places to explore. End of the story.
