It's not hard to earn credits in the game at this point. I've got 147000 and need to double it before I go in on a Cobra MKIII due to the need to outfit and fill the hold to keep earning credits and still reserve credits for insurance. But it only took a couple of hours to pretty much afford the ship. From that point, I'm not really interested in investing in a massive freighter. I might just try to earn credits for the Anaconda and skip the ones in between. But then I might wait for a reset or official release once I buy the Cobra. No point grinding for something I'm likely to lose this early.

New headset - check
Voice attack installed and registered - check

Cletus can you look after me and send me through your Voice Attack commands? I'd like to look them over and shamelessly copy if I could.

Certainly. I think you might be able to export/import profiles. Not sure. I'll look at it tonight.

W00t - Cobra MKIII Get!

So it can be fairly well equipped to defend and attack and it goes way faster than the last two ships. I can be out of Mass Lock in one or two boosts. The downside is it handles like a truck. It doesn't stop quickly. And it handles a bit sluggishly which is a bit frightening when going through the dock. I picked up the docking computer from Chango for this one. When you have a lot of expensive cargo, sometimes you want the autopilot to do the work. Anyway, already got a little over 100000 credits to use trading for a few more nights then I plan to outfit this ship with the best weapons and defensive measures I can find. Oh, it's a two seater too...interesting.

One hint with auto docking. Try to stop 7 km from the entry of the station. Also, try to be looking at the station and in line with the entry as best you can. Sometimes the docking computer gets horribly confused and does strange adjusting turns facing away from the station. It can generally be avoided.

I'm preparing to really sink my teeth into this game over the weekend. Today I'll spend the time getting my voice attack commands ready to go.

Cletus can you post some pics of your stick/KB config? I'll just shamelessly copy that as well

I spent ages trying to dock last night, I watched some of the alpha youtubes and the aha moment hit me when I figured out what I was missing.

Feel confident with my way around things now, did some cargo runs, outran pirates, I couldn't be bothered fighting them with my pea shooters, even if you get their sheilds down they jump away anyways.

Performance is really good here, getting pretty solid 60fps, it does use a lot of gpu, around 50-80% so I guess that will get better as they optimize it.

I accepted friend invites but I haven't figured out how to track people down yet, is there a party/lobby we can use or have you guys been using a 3rd party voice chat solution?

My quick guide to making heaps of credits quickly.

You start in Azeban. Dock, buy fruit and vegetables and go to iBootis and then dock at Chango. Sell your fruit and buy fish. Fill your fuel and jump to Aulin, dock at Aulin and sell your fish. You might need to jump back to iBootis and buy fish a few times. When you can afford to buy Crop Harvesters in Chango, buy them and go back to Eranin and dock at Azeban.

This is the start to making big money. Start off refreshing the bulletin board at Azeban and you'll soon get a request for crop harvesters. It's repeatable, so the more you have the more you can make. You'll make about 900 credits each unit. Do this for a while but switch to buying tea at Azeban when you can afford to. It sells at Chango.

Buy a freighter at Chango for around 20000 credits but hold enough to keep filling your new bigger hull and a few thousand credits for insurance if you crash..

Eventually switch to buying Terrain enhancers at Aulin, go back to Azeban and keep doing the same bulletin board trick you did with the harvesters. You'll make 32000 credits per haul of Terrain Enhancers (2000 per unit). With my 36 slot hull I can make 72000 credits per haul investing a little over 140000 credits in the jump. There are even bigger trading ships which can potentially blow these numbers out even more.

Now I will say this works most of the time. The board seems to refresh every five minutes...but that can go through several cycles. You can either be patient and wait for the big profits or sell straight to the market there for a healthy but lesser profit.

 I can see a small fleet of nastiness on the horizon. It's us. Good number of people on board with this. You, me, hercy, lestat, burnz, cloud, Skat...no doubt more will join. This could make for a very interesting game after the official release.

Keep in mind gents, this is a beta.

You Are Going To Lose Everything.

I ended up earning about 220000 credits tonight. I'll do a little bit more then buy weapons and shields. Then it's gank time. Or escort time if needed.

Watch the jump tutorial and docking tutorial I posted earlier. Well worth it.

Usually the high tech systems have them. Its a bit hit and miss finding the right gear.

Slopey's BDC is a MUST if you wanna make quick cash. Rape it while it works, no doubt it will disappear.

I ended up outfitting in Beagle 2 and Ass Primus.

Funny, both times I tried to use Slopey's, the site was down. My money making scheme may pale in comparison to what can be made.

Yeah I'm loving it! No where near the profits you guys are getting but it definitely snowballs. The trick is to not get greedy and be patient.

I've got a good docking routine that might be new for some:
When in supercruise, dont' fly direct to the station. Instead, fly toward the planet/moon that the station is orbiting and then turn to the station for your final approach. This puts the planet at your 6'oclock. Since all stations seem to have their docking port facing the planet, this means you will arrive with the port in full view every time.

On approach, I will align just outside the docking lane and then turn off flight assist and boost. This gets you full speed the whole way. Close the throttle also, that way you can't accidentally alter your course. Hell, I even turn the engines off completely for a silent cruise just for shits & giggles. When I'm close enough, & after I've requested permission for docking, I just turn Flight Assist back on as I'm aiming right down the port and the ship will slide right into place.

Ok It's a bit depressing how much cash you guys have... Back to haulin'!

I dropped about 250k on my ship last night. I went for military grade shields because I think they're more of an all round protection rather than shields protecting against specific weapon hits like mirrored.

I also kept in mind keeping enough credits for insurance, to keep trading and for restocking munitions. I thought a safe figure was 260k. 140 of that can be your trade investment alone. One crash and you lose all of it.

And Burnz, I was trying to explain a similar method to Hercy and Lestat in MNR last week. On your final approach, get between the station and the body it orbits. You will almost always be facing the entry or at least have it in view when you exit supercruise. Also gives you a far greater sense of control when travelling and exiting SC.
