Pillars of Eternity

Post by Candy Arse »

Didn't know anything about this game until a few days ago.

Now I'm downloading it via Steam.

I see on my friends list that Pilon has played it. What do you think so far?

Has anyone else got it? Read up on it via NeoGAF and am pumped.

I've played it a little bit, good from what I've seen but there's some crippling game breaking bugs that have kept me from progressing further (thanks Obsidian ) . Looks awesome, like a modern day Infinity Engine game. If wanted a new Baldurs Gate this is it

Rock Paper Shotgun has a good writeup too.

Oh shit this game is AWESOME

No bugs whatsoever so far, absolutely this is a modern Infinity Engine game. If you called it Baldurs Gate 3 no one would have any objection to it.

The mechanics are easy to pick up and get rolling with.

It gets challenging pretty quickly in terms of stronger enemies coming at you in gangs and it then forces you to really use your party and their abilities effectively, you can't just click 'kill' and away you go.

I found a large bear in a cave and got mangled...

 I did that too then found the guy who said his friend got mauled by the same bear. Serves me right for being OCD and searching every corner of the map

After I posted that last night I took that bear down with my party, like seemingly everything else in the game it leads to a side quest.

I'm only 6 and a bit hours in but nothing in this game feels like filler, and I mean nothing. No boring side quests, no time-wasting stories...everything seems tight and focused.

One of your party members has a blunderbuss. Awesome.

They're both great but in their own ways. Combat is much better and varied in Divinity, and there's a bit more character in the world and I think the interface is better than Pillars (still not great though). Pillars is more traditional, there's more variation in characters and there's so much more content. The world seems a bit staler compared to Divinity, maybe because I'm early in the game. It just seems very dark and brown.

The world definitely opens up and becomes a hell of a lot more varied.

Once I've gone through this I'll get Divinity and Wasteland 2.

Played the first hour of it last night. Holy balls it really is a new BG! I'm going to try my hardest to play this slow and read everything. I found myself skipping Divinity's text mostly because their odd euro sense of humor kind of ruined the story, but so far Pillars' is to be taken seriously. Also, that bear was a piece of piss on Hard.

Playing as a sort of fighting Druid.

Deleted my Ranger save and have restarted as a high speed Barbarian. Figured since you don't get a Barbarian as a companion (but you do get a Ranger) I'd re-configure my party.

GOTY so far

Playing a Cipher and it's probably too easy on normal right now. Total faceroll stuff unless your tank goes down

Quests are aimed at certain levels, maybe you're doing ones that you're over-leveled for?

I mentioned it ages ago but nobody cares about the good games because they hype up games people already know about.

see this post:

I believe these games would be great ported to wii u. Nintendo need to put some pc rpgs on the eshop.

I've put about 84 hours into it. Have paused it until I go through Witcher 3, but yes 100% it's worth getting if you liked Baldurs Gate.

CrackHED no one would know you posted about it since 99% of this forum ignores everything you type. Just saying.

I got up to 45 hours but lost a lot of steam in Act 3 due to all the dominations in combat. Tried to get back into it on the weekend and couldn't. Think I just played too much over a short period of time.

It's very, very good but there's way too much useless text.
