the castlevania SOTN spiritual sucessor has been named:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-05-11-castlevania-director-iga-announces-bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night

looking forward to this. No wii u version is a bit of a disappointment though.

I enjoyed the recent strider 2.5D game so if it like that I can't see it sucking. It's funny how nintendo don't capitalise on the metroidvania genre by giving us some handheld castlevania styled games on 3DS. Handhelds imo are great for playing this type of game. They are short enough to be able to play on the go, (they don't require epic commitment like open world stuff) but have long term rewards if you see everything and get all the loot. (which can affect how you fight and what tools you can use on bosses to make things easier).

I wonder what is next?
So far we have Mighty No.9. Then Yooka Laylee. Now we have Bloodstained. Next must be streets of rage and golden axe spiritual successor handhled by ex capcom and sega employees. Dragon's Crown was the closest thing to GA. We just need final fight and streets of rage spiritual successor to resurrect the 2d beat em up genre. (this was the bro-beat em up games of the 90s before bro-shooter gaming took off and guns became more popular than hitting things. IGN's low score of God Hand was a sign of the death of the beat em up genre. People of today basically suck. )

edit:
By the way, you can get some of the old metroidvania nintendo DS games on the nintendo Eshop now for those who missed out on those. Show Konami you still love this style of games by purchasing these on eshop. Once publishers realise people still play this shit the creators won't have to beg people for funding all the time.

It's not coming to Wii U because Wii U is a dead system. Not sure if you heard CrackHED but Nintendo are killing it off - releasing a 3rd party game on Wii U now would be beyond dumb.

I'll get the superior PC version.

P.S the Kickstarter pitch video is amazing

He could just make an original game...

I'm already over spiritual successors.

Nonsense pc is a fucked up system to play good games on. It's full of bugs an other shit. When you buy a Wii U version you get the seal of quality which ensures the games are working properly. The games I see like Trine and Trine 2 are far better on Wii U since you use proper default controls. Same thing with 3DS version of Shovel Knight. You get 3D and can play on the bus motherfucker. Plus the default controls for those games is suited to the game. Why would you play a gam like Shovel Knight on a PC? A PC is only for playing MMOs like Elder Scrolls Online which is a piece of software designed to sell you horses and the armor.

I get it, you are jealous that COD and other FPS games are being played on console now instead of on pc with mice and keyboards. And in the past PC tards said FPS belongs on PC only. Now fast forward today and people are preferring to play FPS on console because everyone is on level playing field. And games like GTA are released to consoles first you idiot.

Same with games like Mario Kart. So glad PC gamers are too stupid to realise this. Ye you can play emulated shit from the past and that is one of the perks. But it's only matter of time before the cops bust down doors for playing old games that are using private servers (see my other thread about companies wanting to make it illegal to play old games with expiry dates) to kill any incentive to want to buy a pc in the fist place. (which is to play a lot of free games)

Povo people love pc because they can access loads of free nintendo roms. But if these guys just got a job in the industry and made games on nintendo consoles like Wii U, the wii u wouldn't need to rely only on first party titles so much. The pc is killing gaming by introducing bugs in to console machines and making it acceptable to have poor coding on closed platforms. That's unacceptable in the past. But all of a sudden people have lowered their standards because PC gamers are soft on game companies. Whereas we console gamers who are superior actually bring our games back to shop and demand refunds for buggy shit. That's because we know quality when we see it but pc gamers don't and probably want as little hacking and security as possible so they can cheat or do other stuff not intended by the creators. (rape mods in skyrim for eg)

Bloodstained is the most funded kickstarter ever
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-06-11-bloodstained-is-the-most-funded-video-game-ever-on-kickstarter

very good. Lots of SOTN fans out there. Now konami can finally die off and take castlevania with them.

Mighty No.9 = new mega man
BSROTN = new Castlevania SOTN

all we need is new sonic and streets of rage now.

Quote:
UPDATE 13/06/2015 5.12pm: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night's Kickstarter campaign has ended at a spectacular $5,545,991.

Every stretch goal was reached, culmnating in the addition of a procedurally-generated Roguelike Mode and a Boss Revenge Mode.

the roguelike mode sounds like it could be it's own seperate game.

Make the character have a run animation if you double tap forward and hold forward. That might be one good option for speed run of the game for veteren gamers. Samus can dash and do long jumps and high jumps in metroid. Maybe its time these games added some arcadey jump physics to them? One thing I liked in Strider 2 was how you felt much closer to being a ninja than in the first game because you could run around and somersault and control and guide those jumps in mid-air while clinging to stuff. The pace of the game was quicker but you'd need more skill to play it fast too so it wasn't this risk-free thing. (ie you could end up running into bullets and stuff, but the camera would pull back a bit to let you play quick and get through sections faster. In a metroid vania style game there is a lot of backtracking and exploration so on replays people want to move faster once they've explored everything and enemies are too weak to pose much threat to bother with.)

Didn't Yooka beat the shit out of that? They had to continually make new stretch goals as they beat em all easily in the first day.

Some bad news for candy is that it's coming to wii u: :P

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-05-27-bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night-announces-wii-u-stretch-goal

but not 3DS :(

Nintendo are idiots for not making a metroid game on DS and 3DS. It's almost like the handheld was built for 2d metroid games with the dual screen. Perhaps they forgot the roots of original metroid games were the platform-exploration-puzzle style of gameplay? Where is our NEW "Metroid"? We have 2 NEW "Super Mario Bros" games (plus a NEW "Super Luigi Bros" expansion pack) but no NEW Metroid? (with 4 player co-op mode on Wii U)

If nintendo made New Super Metroid for Wii U with whole re-imagining of the old games people would go crazy. HD screen could fit 4 followers who are cpu controlled drones in single player and other human players when using drop-in co-op. (with rpg like stats that can be leveled up)

There's a 3DS bite sized version coming, prequel or lead up to the events of the main game. Pity no 3DS release though, perfect platform IMO, Shovel Knight was another great one that just shined with the pixel art and 3d effect.

I heard somewhere (eurogamer comment section) that shovel knight appears in this game. Maybe they could make him a bad guy.
edit:
it's true:

When you kill him you should be able to take his shovel imo (dig the floor at certain cracked areas to find secrets)

Short interview with Koji Igarashi on the game:

20 years since Castlevania Symphony of the Night. I feel old and remember the days when the internet was slow as shit and playing Daggerfall late at night on Dos which made it run better because windows 95 was a resource hog. Hopefully this game can live up to the hype.
Metroid: Samus Returns turned out well. Perhaps this new castlevania-like series can survive the crowded metroidvania genre and stick out enough for people to actually notice it.
Everyone makes metroidvania games these days. Will this be the best one in its genre? Lot of pressure.

I've been playing Slain: Back from hell. Great Castlevania style game with nice art/animation, it's pretty tough too kinda dark soulish with parries and you'll be dying a lot.

Be interesting to see how this turns out.

I bought the disc version of that. Would love a hyper gorey castlevania which has genuinely scary and creepy atmosphere to it.

One thing Metroid games have been able to pull off is the sense that you are entering a scary place and the build up to bosses makes you feel a little afraid to explore too much at once.

If Konami was smart they would hire the guys who did the AM2R project to remake all the old castlevania action rpg titles but with HD graphics and then put them on Switch eshop. All they care about is Metal Gear Solid now... There is a lot of talent out there in the fan commuinity as we see with Sonic Mania and AM2R. Use these guys to redo all the old games with remixed visuals and milk those old IP the way nintendo always seem to do with Metroid Zero Mission and Samus Returns.

If Castlevania SOTN was given the HD remaster treatment like the NES Duck Tales capcom game recently got, then Konami could begin to stop sucking. Give the sprites less choppy animations and increased details in back ground along with gore porn like you see in horror games. And add in the ability for Alucard to sprint to make back tracking less painful. (you see him do this right at the begining of the game to make it into the castle before the gate slams shut.Dude, just give us that move as standard for speed runs FFS)

Kickstarted this for $350 on PS4 lol.

Hope it won't end up something like Mighty No.9

Was pretty excited to get this for the Switch, but it appears that's not happening. There's a Wii U version though? Did this whole kickstarter start before Switch specs were known or something? Disappointing. Still very much looking forward to the game, and while I strongly associate the Castlevania games with Nintendo platforms obviously Symphony of the Night was a bit of a big deal so Bloodstained isn't going to feel out of place on the PS4.

Really digging the whole stained glass window skin condition the characters have going on, makes for some great designs.

Well, there's always the Vita version for your portable needs.

Which is what I'm getting in addition to the PS4 version.

For tree fiddy I'd be hoping you get a reach-around from Iga!

I skipped the Vita but the portability isn't a deal-breaker by any means. As long as I get to play it I'm happy.
