Yep, I'm expecting about a 60 metacritic and every review will be able to be paraphrased as "Shenmue 3 gives closure to the fans who have been waiting 20 years but it doesn't offer anything to people who haven't played the first 2 games".

Will still eagerly play the shit out of it though.

Now he has all the assets etc made it'll be easy for him to pump out a sequel or two with a minimal team knowing the diehards will cover the dev costs. Can't remember where I saw it but in an recent interview I think he said it was either 40% of the story done or 60% so to me says 2 more games ffs.

That's my point though, he's now got a new game engine and a bunch of assets so making sequels he can probably do them relatively cheaply with a small group because he's got a hardcore base that'll throw money at it to cover the costs.

I haven't read any reviews but it is exactly what the people who backed kickstarter are expecting I'd have thought and that's what really matters at the end of the day.

I haven't trusted Giant Bomb for years. Edge, GamesTM and Eurogamer are my go to for reviews that I can relate to.

That said, Shenmue was nothing stellar nor it's sequel when it came to review scores. This won't be any better, but then it didn't stop me enjoying the games so far.

All they need to do is supply Steam keys to the backers but still make the game unavailable for purchase till exclusivity expires. It's not brain science.

I watched those vids above regarding Shenmue III and I'm confident it will be as good as if not better than #2. Videos released to. Public are usually old as builds, sometimes 6 months old.

Unsurprising but still rather shit that games made viable with crowd-sourced funds end up being pushed and pulled by big business in the end. Kickstarter games should be locked into not deviating from the terms, conditions and distribution laid out when they ask people for money.

Why, because it's a timed exclusive on Epic Store for PC? At least Epic and Ys Net have agreed to refund people that wanted the Steam version. I don't see a problem with that.

I can understand if you funded the game and chose your desired platform only to be told 4yrs later that another platform is getting exclusive rights for a year but the game is still coming out on PC, that hasn't changed. What has changed is Steam, which is free, is not getting it not for 12 months while Epic Store, which is also free, is getting it. The platform hasn't changed.

This reeks of 2004 when cry babies didn't want to install Steam and have an "always connected" PC in order to play Half-Life 2.

Actually, I never thought about it from that last point. No one was interested in the game before except the fans that funded it. There must've been some extra money going into Ys Net pockets in order to switch Game App Store Fronts.

Still, I'll have my PS4 physical copy........
