I remember SF2 SCE on Mega Drive was like $130
SSF2 was $180. Shit like that makes the $99 digital prices MS are charging look reasonabl by comparison.

I was at the gamesmen on the weekend, picking up some arcade sticks they were clearing out. They had a great little retro section, loved checking out all the old snes carts/megadrive etc, so many memories. Spent many hours of my youth in that store drooling over stuff. :D

I remember specifically buying a snes from there so I could play SF2, I remember paying $140 for an import cart of SF2 hyper editition, the old monster american style arcade sticks(HES). Good times.

Games are relatively cheap these days especially when you adjust for inflation, we have so much choice and content now I'm content replaying and enjoying stuff I already have in my hoard collection.

Most played games, hard to say, probably my stint with WOW would be the most number of hours, but most of my younger years I was basically a street fighter/snk nut and would pump hours into those games. KOF98 is probably my favourite all time game, there is no other game I come back to more and keep replaying.

I remember VR being $200, picked it up for 10 much later. SSF2 I got for 130.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles would be in my most played, just hammered that game to death (except it's still going). But most hours ever is easily PSO. From comments in this thread I am genuinely too embarrassed to say how many hours I put into, heck, just 3 of my characters, just on the DC. Perhaps MORPGs shouldn't count for hours played.

Most played games are all the bethesda rpg and monster hunters.

I find the mechanics solid enough that replays are worth it. This is just vanilla edition.

When you add up the dlc/expasions it goes higher than that.

When No Man's Sky comes out (hopefully the feminists don't ruin it) I hope it becomes a daggerfall for space type affair. (ie the environment is too big to ever stop)

Games are expensive still imo. Most of the games today repeat old code from last year with a slight change in paint just like action figure recolors. They milk your wallet. It's all EA' fault for starting this day one dlc trend and bethesda for the horse armor thing.

As for old games I come back to: Final Fight One and Double Dragon Advance.

There is something about 90s beat em ups like this with fast pace that never gets old for me. I wish they did a remix of this stuff the way they did for Megaman X on psp. I even liked Mighty Final Fight.

Other old games: Duke 3D on PS Vita. It's fun to play a game where there is no recharging health and you just have to dodge or hide and if you get hit too often the bad stuff rolls over to the next stage and lessens your chance of survival if you came in injured. You don't see this anymore. Thanks to the military shooter genre ruining consequences for mistakes. Old games were smaller but you were forced to perfect things before being allowed to see what came next.

Occassionally I will dig out Outrun 3D and After Burner II 3D on the 3DS for some nostalgia. Although they pale in comparison to Mario Kart (you get a muc wider peripheral view of the overall track) they are still fun games. I can see why Sega fans are so passionate about sega's past. They knew what the arcade experience was about and these games have a 'just one more time' feel to them because they skip through all the crap to give you the good shit.
Too many games today want you to earn your way through things by making you earn money which involves doing boring shit first. (I blame Gran Turismo for that) And what old arcade games do is force you to blame yourself for shit skill and if you want to be less shit, you practice until you get good. (not buy more expensive stuff by being more rich than the other guy lol)

Sega need to bring back their gears of war clone Binary Domain and make it major franchise. Fuck sonic.

My most played games were mostly Blizzard games...

* Warcraft 2: Back in the uni days I used to play Warcraft 2 almost everyday for 3 years, and instead of studying I was playing Warcraft 2 at the computer labs.

* StarCraft 1: This game took it to another level! This was when I first had my 33.6K modern. I remember playing on Battlenet for the very first time - it was like being in heaven. I played SC1 almost every day until Warcraft 3 came out (around 5 years).

* Counter Strike: I first saw this game at a friend's house (around 1999) and he was playing Counter Strike with a cable modern. I gone home that day and rang Telstra to order my cable modern. I also recalled buying the Voodoo 2 graphics card to play this game (I spent nearly $300 at a computer swap meet). I spent around 3 years playing good old Counter Strike on my Pentium 2.

* Warcraft 3: Played this game till death until the mod for Dota came out... that's another 5 years of my life gone to another Blizzard game!

* StarCraft 2: Been playing this since 2010. The multiplayer aspect for this game is simply phenomenal.

* Dota 2: Been playing this Dota2 since 2013, and Steam tells me that I've spend 951 hours so far on this game (sigh).

I loved Counter Strike pre Source and used to play it religiously to the point I was clocking up 10yrs a day (I finished work at 1:30pm back then). Used to get the lowest ping out of all my 56k buddies. For some reason I used to connect at 52000, I think the junction box was at the end of my street. Pings where around 130-150 for Auckland servers and 190 to Aussie servers. This was back when lpbs were a rare occurrence.

Also UT99 was a big one for me but I quit the first time I won a 16 player deathmatch with 30 kills 0 Deaths. That was the meanest rush hearing the announcer every 5 kills.
