Shovel Knight is an excellent game. I don't have a Switch but I'd be looking at Snipperclips as well.

Zelda is fucking brilliant. I've sunk the whole afternoon and evening thus far into it and I'm McLovin it.

Wii U owners can buy with confidence. Game runs great!

In a 1..75 hour car drive this afternoon, my four (and a half!) year old son caught up to me - albeit with fewer pickups, with me talking him through it.

He hooted and hollered the whole way home.

Then I seamlessly transferred him from the car to the couch where we plugged it straight into dock and the Switch turned the TV on and set the input.

I can potentially bundle him into the car at a moments notice without fuss.

For those who bought the Switch version of the Zelda BOTW does the wolf link amiibo work so you can get the wolf as companion?

I forgot whether amiibo works with switch or is it that amiibo is only Wii U specific and you need Switch-specific amiibos? Don't intend to buy Switch until Switch-specific titles arrive. (I agree with those who say it's a weak launch. No pack-in game really hurts it imo. The least they could do is give a voucher to download some digital version of games like Skyrim or something to help ease the burden. Do we even know if it's the remastered edition??)

This is the weakest system of the 3 so I have high hope the japs will love it (they have limited space) but it will probably end up not getting much third party support in the west unles it has massive userbase and sony has too much of a lead already. So if you like japanese games and playing on the bus this is perfect portable. I see it as portable that can also play at home and not a home console that plays as portable. I have a feeling the point of it detaching is so you can play LAN in public spaces by meeting your buddy in person for multi session and e-sports reasons. (splatoon or smash bros in the local park for a few hours but like the new arcade machines you each get a seperate screen to yourself and the players face opposite each other so you can't spy on what's on the other guy's screen.)

Maybe about the time Tekken 7 is ready I will get it. But I have a big backlog of games I am playing right now and money is tight. Rather than a price drop nintendo need to copy sony's strategy of adding value to the package. It would not have cost them much to have done a quick port of Mario Maker and made it a multi-player coop version of the game so poeple could play levels together on the street or something like that. This could have acted as the pack in game like what wii sports was for Wii.

One thing I would like to see is capcom doing a port of Dragon's Dogma to Switch. I want to play this on cartridge. Much like how they've done remasters of old Resident Evil games this franchise needs to get to all the platforms and unfortunately it didn't get to a nintendo one yet. (pc gamers finally got it) A lot of old 360 titles that never saw the light on Wii and Wii U would be perfect titles to release on switch now that discs format is no longer in use and people can finally enjoy these games on smaller devices. That is the Switch's main draw for me. Playing Skyrim, Zelda and Dark Souls on the go as portable games on little carts. On a tiny screen the details are scrunched into small spaces so the reduction in resolution isn't too bad. While there are no games, nintendo needs to pad the library with third party remaster stuff to give people something to play that isn't just gimmicks. (or people are just going to sell the machine for profit secondhand after getting tired that there is nothing to play yet)

The Wii U version is more comfortable to play on gamepad and runs great at 480p

I'm having no issues with the Wii U gamepad, but then again I have large hands so it's not exactly a cumbersome device.

This game is brilliant. Yet to come across anything revolutionary (that claim is complete hyperbole) but the game is polished as all hell.

I don't think 10 out of 10 means "revolutionary" anymore candy. That's something Edge magazine made up because the focus of the whole magazine was about things that were on the lead to revolutionising the way we think of gaming. And since that magazine is a tech mag, it makes sense because we think of new gadgets as being all about being more sophisticated than last years models.
But in the context of gaming 10 just means it is as close to the perfect experience you have enjoying the gameplay of the game itself due to how all the moving parts relate to each other. True revolutionary stuff is when we will have holograms or you can jack into the matrix and place a wire in your head to directly access the game world so there is no need to wear a VR goggles anymore.

Porn will directly stimulate the brain so you will feel like you are actually being touched by the hookers in GTA 5. I'm convinced this technology to directly interface with virtual worlds already exists but the military uses it for mind control to implant fake memories. (eg you see a UFO and get abducted by aliens. Then the MIB intercept the abduction by swapping the bodies and stealing you from the aliens, and then implant a false memory into your head so the next time you are abducted by them they get a false report that makes the aliens believe they have obtained a valuable secret from the human (who they use as a mind controlled spy and probe for information) but it is fake. The abductee believes his own false memory like the character in the Ghost in the Shell comic, and goes about his life not knowing who he really is.

We are getting close to the movie "Strange Days". There is something similar to this in Street Fighter II animated movie where M.Bison is trying to manipulate Ken into becoming a killing machine by conncting his mind to the device that can twist his negative experiences into energy to make him hate a certain target the manipulator can direct his hate towards so they don't have to directly kill by themselves and can remain in the shadow. Think about it this way: we have tech to be able to manipulate mechanical arm with our brainwaves, but can the technology manipulate us? (ie where the machine makes your body into a organic robot to move according to how it wants? This is where we get into the dark side of transhumanism and mark of the beast. (the body is a temple and if the machine controls you from the inside; ie within the temple, then you will no longer have autonomy of your own action and given up your soul to the beast system which wants to make you its cattle/servent and itsslef a god over everyone it controls)

One of the characters in Transformers MindWipe has this ability.
http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Mindwipe_(G1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
Transformers are living aliens with mechanical bodies. Mindwipe can control them by hypnosis and the only protection against that is consciousness (you are the spirit in your body, not the body itself, so you can affectively "fight" internally over control over the physical through the spiritual world by consciously disregarding the commands using will power to consciously ignore the suggestion) Notice how tv programs are called programs? it's subtle hypnosis and brainwashing to get you to think the way they want you to think but over long stretches of time. When you watch tv your brain goes into a state that is open to hypnotic suggestion and you don't question what is being told to you. Look this up.

So basically the difference in the Wii U and switch versions of Zelda is very minimal, and now I just found out you can soft mod your Wii U.......the choice is too easy

Does the Wii U version of Zelda use the touchscreen for inventory or anything? I said I wouldn't, but I'm thinking of grabbing it today...

Edit: Oops, wrong thread. Whatever.

Touchscreen is only used to switch between TV and gamepad for gameplay.

Cheers. Grabbed a copy from Target, EB were sold out.

Had a brief look at a Switch while I was in there, pretty impressed with the form factor but there's not much range in the analogue sticks, they feel similar to the Vita. Didn't actually play anything on it though so I'll wait and see.

I'm in about an hour into the Wii U version - great game. You definitely know your playing a 720p title, and some textures are a bit shitty, but otherwise really good.

I still don't understand why Nintendo would release this on Wii U when launching a new console. Absolute madness.

To stop people like me burning down Nintendo HQ. They used Zelda to sell the Wii U. I'd say it was a decision of ethics.

Lol, yeah the pitchforks and torches would have definitely come out.

Still, despite the Switch's lack of performance and disgustingly arrogant pricing, they might've, just might've, pushed me over the edge with this as an exclusive.

If it was Switch exclusive, the Zelda reviews would have forced my hand without question.

As it stands, very happy to wait for something else to come out whenever that is.

It's about honor candy. Something about japanese samurai code (like knights) where people actually value ethics and keeping to your word and not losing face. (in other words the opposite of the guys who started the Star Citizen kicksterter and didnt't give the early backers the money back for constantly delaying the game beyond its release date)

You could learn something from nintendo given you are a dirty pc pirate that steal nintendo roms and sells them to kids for cheap prices if they will let you win at street fighter 5 on ps4 version of the game.

Do you really believe that not releasing on the Wii U is going to help their brand image? They are not Microsoft you know.
The cancelation of Scalebound has got to be their biggest mistake imo. Platinum is a trust worthy developer. Look at their line of games. Paranoid motherfuckers...It just means more sales go to sony now with their game Horizon Zero Dawn and nintendo with Zelda. MS has lost touch. Scorpio better have Elder Scrolls 6 and if they wish to survive pay Bethesda a moneyhat to ensure sony version isn't as good as the Scorpio version. This will probably get them a boost from fans of open world WRPG gamers.

They need exclusives in the same way nintendo has them. (Xenoblade, Zelda, metroid, mario etc) Forza and halo isn't enough. It's time MS brought back the platform game mascot otherwise japan is going to ignore them. But these guys didn't use Rare to do anything. Yooka Laylee look awesome for an indie game. Perhaps they will wait until this succeeds then consider it?

Completely ignoring CrackHED's psychobabble...

One thing I'm noticing with Zelda is that while so far it's doing nothing original (so many things are borrowed from other games), what it's doing is at least as good if not better than the game that inspired it.

Take the towers you climb to reveal parts of the map, riffed straight outta the Ubisoft playbook.

In Zelda it only reveals the topography of the area as well as any roads that go through it. No locations you haven't already discovered yourself or anything else.

Because of this I have more incentive to explore the map than I ever did in Far Cry or Ass Creed.

Absolutely loving this game so far.

That's actually a good idea to only reveal the topography, still requires exploration. Are the towers compulsory or do they just act as a hint?

In the tutorial they're compulsory to leave the first area, since then it's been voluntary but I've found it handy actually seeing the topography and the road layout.

It is a good game. I'm finding the exploration a bit like Shadow of Mordor, but with greater scale. Though I'm finding the frame drops a bit jarring, especially where grass is abundant.

But thinking more about it, I absolutely would have buckled had this been a Switch exclusive.
