Pokemon GO
Sooo... has anyone else started playing Pokemon GO?
I'm getting into it more due to the fact that it could be a good business plan. There are 3 pokegyms in close vicinity to my business. Plus I can use lures to get people to come to the pokestop outside my place
It's still a bit buggy but overall it's going to be huge... until it's not I guess

Re: Pokemon GO
It's massive. There was a huge Pokémon GO walk in Sydney yesterday, turn out was amazing.
I went out to a big family event down at the local shopping complex (food trucks, stalls, music, fireworks... that kind of thing) and nearly everyone was on their phone Pokémoning it up. Gyms were in constant battle, all nearby pokéstops were lured... it was huge.
The amount of police posting about it on social media I big.
Highest downloaded game on release and highest grossing game on release. It's a phenomenon.

Not yet it seems..
I wish it wasn't as stupidly buggy.

Re: Pokemon GO
I downloaded it last night to see what ask the fuss was about. Just opened it up now at work, and looks like there's a gym at my work, in the cafeteria. This is a secured access work site by the way, so only employees have access.

Re: Pokemon GO
I stand corrected, the Pokémon GO walks were an Australia wide thing. Massive turn outs everywhere for a game that has been out for a few days.
It's all running on the Ingres servers and I am guessing that they thought the game was going to be as big as that. Once they upgrade their servers we should see some smoothness appear.
Worked fine on launch day as it was only AU/NZ and JP. Now NA has come on board and it is swamped. Hopefully they balance the load better when UK and Canada join.

A heap of people I know are getting into it, but I'm sticking with real games.
Re: Pokemon GO
Downloaded to give it a try. Barely a game at all. Deleted
ANATHEMATIC ILLIMITED, TRANSFATAL EXPRESS, VIRAL INCORPORATED, INTERNATIONAL EPIDEMICS & MENSTRUAL MOTORCYCLES.
Re: Pokemon GO
Apparently it's an even simpler game than Ingress. And Ingress was barely a game anyway.

^ True - this is not a real game.Candy Arse wrote:A heap of people I know are getting into it, but I'm sticking with real games.
I've got it, as does my eldest. We just drove down to the local shopping centre, and there was a lure down there. Loads and loads of Rattata's in my local shops. I was not surprised.
This thing has charm, and it's Pokemon, but definitely not a real game. It's a dumb distraction on my mobile phone. I'll be much happier with Moon in November.

Re: Pokemon GO
Sky Force is my "go to" mobile game atm. I'll never ever play a Pokémon game.

From what I can gather Pokémon GO mixes fake gaming with fake exercise.

Seriously though, apart from the server hiccups it's brilliant. I cut through the park during my walk home from work today and found four active lures along the way (snagged a Bulbasaur among others). There's a PokéStop at my work, and about 10 on my usual route. Lots of street art, parks, and "points of interest" around here so my item bag is always full. I can see five gyms from my house- at about 2:30 this morning a flashmob of Team Mystic members ransacked a Team Valor dominated gym.
So many people are playing it, it's insane. I saw a lure a couple of blocks away earlier tonight and figured "what the hell", headed over and there were about two dozen people getting amongst it. I've never seen so many complete strangers chatting to each other in the streets, and it's so bizarre that it's a Pokémon game that's behind it. More than half of the people I know seem to be playing the damn thing. A private FaceBook page for the local players appeared and had over 500 members by the end of the first day. It's taking over the world, and I am okay with this.
Only thing I'd like to see improved apart from the servers are the player customisation options (or lack thereof), but given its popularity I'm sure this will be expanded upon. It'll be interesting to see if trading gets implemented down the line, or perhaps even direct PvP battles. Best free game I've played? We'll see, but it's up there so far.
More generally, I think a game like this raises a lot of interesting questions regarding privacy, developer responsibility and the way we engage with social networks. Yes, Ingress did all of this first, but relatively nobody got involved. This has already become huge, and it's fun to be along for the ride.

Re: Pokemon GO
It's so not a game. But that hasn't stopped me from walking down the street with a mate just to hunt a Nidoran. Shit game, love the concept.

Re: Pokemon GO
I think numbers will decrease but if content such as trading, open battling and new continents come in I can see it having a decent life span.
