Re: GOTY 2016

Post by Ambrose Burnside »

There was a clear Top 3 at the Ranch. Seven votes separated 10th (The Witness) from 4th (Uncharted 4) but a massive 14 votes separated 4th from 3rd!

3rd - Forza Horizon 3 - 41 points, 6.8 average

The best racing game of the year by far (DiRT Rally scored 6) and it's even set in Australia! :aussie:

There may have been a clear Top 3 looking at overall totals, but looking at averages as well there was a clear Top 2:

2nd - Titanfall 2 - 42 points, 8.4 average

PLAY THIS GAME. PLEASE, IF YOU LOVE GAMING, AND HAVE THE SLIGHTEST INTEREST IN FPS, PLAY THIS GAME.

I've read plenty of reports that say sales have been abysmal (sales definitely DO NOT EQUAL qualerty!) so I'm not sure what the MP community is like (I have yet to play it myself) but Titanfall 2 deserves it's lofty position due to it's absolutely incredible (though short) campaign. Similar to Doom, it's fast and smooth and gets the adrenaline absolutely pumping!

1st - Doom - 107 points, 8.9 average

Yep. 107 votes from 12 people. That, my friends, is a crushing victory. Despite a lacklaster MP mode, five people considered Doom their GOTY, with another three (myself included), gave it 9. The perfect modern remake, and the icing on the cake to 2016, the Year of the FPS!

Congratulations Doom, you're Game Ranch's almost-unanimous 2016 GOTY!!!

I knew Doom was going to win.

Titanfall 2 being under the EA label killed it. They will never do a sequel now that they got such poor sales. Respawn is going to end up like Lionhead if they don't figure out how to escape from EA. These EA people are the guys that could have made a sequel to Kingdom of Amalur on the Wii U but nooooo they decided to just port games you can easily get on all the other systems making them the most boring company on the planet.

Yes I will buy the next Mass Effect grudgingly but these guys chose the wrong time to release the GOTY contender and waste money. And why don't they port older franchises like Dragon Age 1 to the switch with graphical makeover?
Not everyone cares about bloody sport sims you know. There is a big demand in future for old classic games that you can play on the go. If EA port old 360 titles on switch they can make some easy money. And pad the library so there is something to play. (If dark souls 3 is going to it, I don't see how Kingdom of Amalur, Dragon Age 1, and mass effect trilogy couldn't go there either. These are replayable titles and I would love to see this stuff on carts.)

EA didn't kill Titanfall 2. It's fake gamers like you that didn't buy it when it released and was a genuinely a worthy purchase, even at full price.

I actually bought Titanfall 2. It's overwatch I didn't buy because I can't understand why blizzard would make a game based around a cg cartoon on pornhub.

And the fact it had to go cheap is the reason EA killed it.

EA destroyed all the franchises like System Shock, Mail Order Monsters (games like Pokemon are big thing now) Draong Age (caving into the SJW) and they killed the dreamcast by not supporting it, causing sega and the shenmue series to not be completed. EA even supported the Wii U at the start.

EA not nintendo is to blame for Titanfall franchise failing. EA created that crappy star wars game too BTW. You guys hyped it to shit.

Yes but thanks to EA we won't ever get a sequel. It's going to be like the System Shock series where fans dread that EA has the IP captive and wish they didn't own it.

I can't be arsed trying to format this properly, but here's a cut and paste from the Excel spreadsheet. A total of 51 games for voted for, ranging from Doom's 107 votes to 1 vote for XCOM 2, Dead Rising 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider. There were a few surprises there. Overwatch for example has universal praise out there, but could only muster 10 points here (one person's GOTY). I haven't played it myself. Lots of people here praised Blood and Wine and Hitman, but only one person voted for them:

Game Overall Average

Doom 9 10 10 8 10 9 8 8 10 6 9 10 107 8.9

Is this the same System Shock you pimped on Kickstarter but then wouldn't back because you are a fake gamer? :io:

Also, go DOOM! despite my rantings I just wanted to say I really enjoyed doom and by the end of it felt it was doing a bunch right. Just need to stop comparing it to the brilliant brutal doom which should I am now considering the official replacement for DOOM 3 after John Romero acknowledged it as the way bacon is supposed to be. I think it should be noted any game where I say "can i fucking push some buttons now" at any point of the experience makes me pull out my red pen, so I was admittedly quite harsh; doing so in the context of doom whilst juxtaposing it with coop brutal doom play only magnified how annoying i found those parts.

Okay... need advice from the guys... Doom sounds like a really good game according to you lot.

Anyway, Target is selling Doom for $17 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/290943" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The thing is, should I be getting this for the PC or Xbox One? I have a gaming laptop and I do prefer my Razer gaming mouse and keyboard combo. But is this game better suited to the console?

PC, FFS. Like there's even a contest. Even if it doesn't run at extreme settings on your PC now, it'll run at those settings on a future PC build. The 'bone or PS4 version won't do that.
