You people are fucking delusional if you think the masses own 4K televisions. There simply isn't a reason for the average joe to rush out and buy a 4K television, when there's still no 4K television programming (either free to air or cable television), and 4K players/4K movies are just beginning to hit store shelves.

Microsoft making 4K gaming Xbox One X's primary focus is retarded, as it's just too damn early for it to be a successful selling point for the mainstream audience. :?

It will take a few more years for 4K to gain popularity...which is probably the reason why Sony made the smart decision to not go technically overboard with the PS4 Pro, and wanted to wait until the release of the PS5 to fully embrace native 4K gaming and a true technical evolution in hardware (unlike Xbox One X with it's shitty outdated jaguar processor and joke of a CPU). All the Xbox One X is going to achieve is push back the release of Microsoft's next true Xbox gaming console (and that's even if Microsoft decide to release another console, after the likely flop of Xbox One X).

Sales figures show that the PS4 Pro isn't selling so well (after all, the PS4 Pro is targeted at a niche audience). If Sony (with the mass global popularity of the Playstation brand) are having difficulty selling their niche console...how the fuck is Microsoft (with the Xbox brand currently in the gutter) going to sell their niche console (Xbox One X) - and at an even higher price (not to mention, with absolutely no exclusive games to essentially strong-arm people into buying an Xbox One X to play the likes of Forza and Gears of War)?

Xbox One X is a fucking disaster...analysts have already predicted it's going to fail. I'm just curious to see if we are at a point where Microsoft shareholders scream "ENOUGH!!!", and demand for Microsoft to discontinue the Xbox brand (which has NEVER, EVER turned a profit, but instead cost Microsoft BILLIONS UPON BILLIONS OF DOLLARS in losses)...

As Paul Thurrott (respected tech journalist and Microsoft insider) recently said...
One of the dirty little secrets of Microsoft’s Xbox/gaming business is that it has never actually turned a profit.

I can state this with certainty: Microsoft’s gaming business is not profitable.

Eliminate Xbox One, Bing And Surface, Says Microsoft Investors

On Feb. 4, Microsoft appointed 46-year-old Satya Nadella to the coveted position of CEO. The multimedia giant hopes Nadella will lead company efforts to unify practices and products across the brand’s software, services and hardware divisions. Recently, a number of Microsoft investors told the new CEO and the company's board of directors that they should cancel endeavors like the Xbox One next-gen gaming console, search engine Bing and the Surface tablet.

“Microsoft's Windows division has been facing shrinking profits; last year, the unit pulled in a net $9.5 billion, down from $11.6 billion in 2012 and $12.3 billion in 2011,” said the Washington Post. “Company filings suggest that the drop is largely attributable to declining demand for Windows among consumers, even as sales of Windows to businesses remain strong. The same division also reported a $900 million loss on unsold Surface tablets. The online services division, which oversees search engine Bing, reported a loss of $1.3 billion in 2013 -- less than the previous year but still in the red.”

Two shareholders have been pushing for the Redmond, Wash.-based conglomerate to leave behind “non-essential” product lines so Microsoft can readily focus on its primary source of income -- selling software to businesses.

Last November, CEO hopeful Stephen Elop, a former Nokia CEO, was rumored to believe the Xbox brand should be cut loose as well. Although the Xbox 360 is considered to be one of the most popular video game consoles of all time, Elop may view the brand as unprofitable. Bloomberg’s inside sources reported that Elop “would also consider selling healthy businesses such as the Xbox game console if he determined they weren’t critical to the company’s strategy.”

“Some investors have suggested that Microsoft spin off its money-losing consumer products and focus solely on the enterprise,” stated the Washington Post. "Even the Xbox deserves to go," Paul Ghaffari, the wealth manager for Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, said in 2013.

People saying that have never come across the idea of a "loss leading product". These are products or services that draw on profits from other areas of the company in order to generate goodwill and drive sales to those same areas.
Plus, it's a nice tax dodge.

If MS were to follow the whims of investors all the time, they'd be stuck in a never-ending cycle of new product launches (as investors demand INNOVASHUN!) and cancellations (as they demand PROFETS!).

The only thing that MS need to bin is Windows Phone. Nobody uses it, nobody wants to use it, and literally nobody will care or even notice if it disappeared overnight.

With Xbox (and to a lesser extent, Surface), MS have a massive audience of (mostly) loyal customers, and because there's decent competition from Sony, people can't even claim that they're locked in like with Windows.

Oh look investors on the money again!

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/investor ... nance.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Tokyo (AFP) - Investors hit the sell button on Nintendo shares Friday as gamers and analysts were left underwhelmed by a sneak peek at the videogame giant's long-awaited new console.

One company watcher called the Nintendo Switch "disappointing", while gamers were left wondering how much it would cost and whether it was compatible with smartphones.

In a three-minute video posted on its YouTube channel Thursday, Nintendo unveiled the hybrid machine which can be played at home and on the go, thanks to a removable screen with the controllers attached.

The device is due to be released in March.

"It's a disappointing console," said Amir Anvarzadeh, Singapore-based head of Japanese equity sales at BGC Partners.

"It doesn't enhance the gaming experience when you have a smartphone in your pocket."

The Kyoto-based company's share price dropped nearly eight percent at one stage on Friday before ending the day at 25,185 yen, down 6.54 percent.

The console is seen as key to Nintendo's business, as it competes with Sony's hugely popular PlayStation 4.

Nintendo, whose Switch uses cartridges rather than discs, is looking for a hit product to offset disappointing sales of its Wii U console.

After years of pressure, Nintendo abandoned its consoles-only policy and entered into the smartphone game market earlier this year.

In March, the company released "Miitomo" -- a free-to-play and interactive game that allows users to create "Mii" avatars -- as it tries to compete in an industry that has increasingly gone online.

This summer it scored another hit with the Pokemon Go app, giving a boost to a Nintendo-created brand, although the game was developed by a US firm and the financial impact on the Japanese company's bottom line will be limited.

- No surprises -

Nomura Securities analyst Junko Yamamura was more charitable than some, calling the Nintendo Switch "formidable".

But she added that it would not redefine gaming in the way that the original Wii console did after its launch a decade ago.

"The concept for the product is in line with our expectation that it will be a hybrid of a stationary console and a handheld device," Yamamura said.

"Nintendo has not come out with any surprises to redefine gaming... but we think the Nintendo Switch addresses some of the issues that came up with the Wii U and looks formidable."

Respected game industry watcher Hirokazu Hamamura described the Switch as a "high-end" console that would run multi-platform titles designed for personal computers, PlayStation and Xbox.

"Keen to know compatability with smartphones and price," he said on Twitter.

Gamers expressed both delight and caution as competition heats up with Sony pushing its high-powered PS4 and PSVR virtual reality headset.

"I am glaaaad Nintendo Switch came out better then expected!!(><) Mario Kart and Splatoon in pipeline, but how about Pokemon... Now I am growing less inclined to buy PS4..." one fan tweeted.

But others were waiting on more details.

"Nintendo Switch, I might want it depending on the game titles (^^)," said a fan.

Seriously Rocco, I'm not even sure what the point of your stupid rants are anymore? Microsoft is a company that makes 6bn in profit a quarter, that gives tremendous scope to explore more business opportunities and expand your reach, improve your brand. Which is what a lot of microsoft services/products do, even if they are loss making.

The fact you've been spinning like a madman doing damage control recently says to me the monster specs of XOX threatens you. Once the fad of switch wears thin, people will want their meat and potatoes. :)

You are choosing to ignore (understandable...you are the biggest xbot in PlayNOW!/Games Ranch history) that the demands for Microsoft to discontinue Xbox is not just analysts!

It's coming from within Microsoft! Shareholders and members of management have been up in arms for years, wanting to give Xbox the flick!

As for Microsoft willingly choosing to spend almost two decades on a product that has NEVER BEEN PROFITABLE, BUT INSTEAD COST THEM BILLIONS UPON BILLIONS OF DOLLARS...

The only reason Microsoft stuck around this long was because of their key goal to one day dominate the living room with Xbox eventually transforming into a set top box.

Xbox One was NEVER supposed to be a gaming system, but instead a must have "television set top box" (that also happens to play games) and requiring a monthly subscription fee to be paid to make full use of the television features.

Problem is Microsoft's set top box ambitions catastrophically failed (along with Kinect...and Microsoft's sickening strategy to collect advertising dollars by forcing Kinect's camera & microphone to remain always on, and collect data about Xbox customers, for Microsoft to then sell to advertisers in exchange for $$$).

The entire Xbox brand is now an utter disaster! Xbox One is a failure selling like shit (just like Xbox One X will), and just as importantly...Microsoft's flagship software (Halo, Forza, etc) have sold like shit! :?

In fact...Mario Kart 8 on Wii U alone has DOUBLED the COMBINED sales for Forza 5, Forza 6, and Forza Horizon 2! How humiliating that a trio of next generation Xbox One Forza games have been outsold by a karting game with inferior graphics/resolution/frame rate...and running on TEN YEAR OLD HARDWARE!!!

Image

Fucking Super Mario Maker on Wii U (a 2D platformer creator application that cost Nintendo chump change to develop) HAS OUTSOLD HALO 5 (and not by a little, but by MILLIONS more copies of SMM sold over Halo 5).

The Xbox One X is as much of a flop as the Wii U - but at least Wii U games actually sell! 8)

Mark my words...XBOX ONE X IS GOING TO FAIL!!!

Oh shit!

The most well renowned video game analyst in the world (Michael Pachter) has just EXPOSED Microsoft's bullshit lies regarding Xbox One X pre-orders...

He actually brings up a good fact that the NES Mini this year has sold more than Xbox One X pre-orders!

Image

Don’t Believe Xbox One X Pre-Order Reports, Says Michael Pachter

The Xbox One X is allegedly the fastest pre-ordered Xbox system ever- and as per another report, it is already outselling the PS4 Pro for the entire year this year too on Amazon (at least in the US and UK). This is good news all around for Xbox - given that Xbox hasn’t been having the best time of things of late on the sales front.

However, Wedbush Securities’ Michael Pacther, speaking on his YouTube show, has said that the numbers are not necessarily as positive as they seem. “Xbox One X is ranked on Amazon in the pre-orders a year to date, last I looked number 66,” Pachter said. “I believe the NES Classic was at number 23. It sold 2.3 million units lifetime, and you know that the bulk of those units were sold last year, so this year maybe a million, so if Xbox One X is ranked 48th bellow that, it’s not even close to a million, and of course the Amazon allocation is probably five or ten thousand units, so don’t fall for the bullshit that comes out of Windows Central that tells you that this is the fastest pre-ordered console and Xbox history. They only have a couple. The original Xbox didn’t have big pre-orders. The Xbox 360, maybe, but honestly, who was pre-ordering consoles back then, so of course this is the most pre-ordered.”

Now, a few things- Pachter’s words were harsh, and he has since apologized on Twitter for inadvertently antagonizing Windows Central, stating that he has no problems with their report itself, but from the conclusion people are drawing from it, especially out of context. The other thing is, Pachter’s final remarks are true - the original Xbox didn’t have big pre-orders and didn’t sell well, the Xbox One didn’t have good pre-orders, and the Xbox 360, while hugely successful, was a slow starter, with sales picking up after Gears of War launched in 2006. So Xbox One X being the fastest pre-ordered Xbox system is, while impressive, also something you would almost expect by default.

Why does Rocco seem to give such a shit about the Xbox One X and MS in general? I can't see his posts but suspect it's more of the same nonsense. He spends more time on this board attempting to troll Xbox owners but ends up getting severely owned each and everytime. I highly doubt he even has a Switch :/

Jasper is just threatened by the X, otherwise he'd be delighted about its reality given he thinks it will end Microsoft's entry in the home console business.

This is the start of the turnaround for Microsoft. They need be regain consumer confidence and regain developers. Exclusives will come when they have a console developers want to develop for, otherwise it's always going to go to Sony.

When did the X bone launch?

When did the Wii U launch?

How many Wii Us were sold before Nintendo ceased production?

How many Xbones were sold before Microsoft ceased production?

Exactly.
