Crossplay
Gears 5 supports Crossplay across Xbox One and PC for Campaign Co-Op, Versus, Horde and Escape.
Ranked play also supports Crossplay, though players on console will have the option to disable cross-platform ranked play should they choose to do so.

Fark, that looks very good. I've only just started playing number 4 and am due to finish it in 2021.

What's crazy is they achieved this @ 60fps. That's incredible and unheard of in AAA. It freaks me out running this at 100fps+ Shit looks so detailed and has a lifelike fluidity, it's surreal.

Just watched the DF PC coverage and am pumped. I have Gears 4 yet to play. Is it worth playing it before 5?

Not absolutely necessary, there is a short recap at the beginning of the game. Story is never the strongest part of the Gears series however Gears 4 is still a good game and the new characters are worth going through the story mode to get a feel for them.

Yeah they recap the events in 4 at the beginning of the campaign with a small cutscene, so you don't really need to play it.

You'd only play 4 to get some more association with the new characters (JD, Kate, Del).

I've been just playing the MP most of the weekend, so amazing how OP shotgun still is in this game. I think the arcade mode is more enjoyable than classic largely because the shotgun gets shelved in arcade mode. Also noticing quite a bit of desync in the game, servers have been having issues all weekend, I think live was down on Saturday arvo.

Yeah live was down sat when I went to get the early ultimate access so I gave up. I knew for sure as the kid was losing his shit not being able to get on Roblox and he doesn't understand why xbox just doesn't work like it has the rest of his gaming life.

"Mate you're playing an always on online game"
"IT WONT LOAD ITS BROKEN"
"It won't work as you need to be on the net and the servers are down"
"THIS IS STUPID"
Vzzzbx, you lose again!

Well xbox live having issues over the weekend wasn't a coincidence.

Gears 5 is the first game to dethrone Fortnite as the most played title.
Fortnite has been most played since like summer 2018. When Fortnite became big. It never lost the #1. Until now with Gears 5.
This is also the Ultimate edition which is counted since Friday for played hours. I wont stay on top for a long time of course. But gamepass doing a lot of work.

Amazing result when you consider not even RDR2 could dethrone Fortnite.

People are getting bored of Fortnite and want a single player experience.

Or the desire to do some dogde rolling shotgun-to-the-fave shenanigans was very strong.

I just renewed my PS plus subscription and I feel cheated. Gamepass is such an amazing deal.

Loving Gears 5 so much, such a pretty looking game. Spent most of the time playing Horde, some nice changers in there too.

Scored passes to last week Gears Ink event in Melbourne. Was setup in an old warehouse with plenty of consoles, gears stuff, dudes getting tattoos, free food and beers. Only issue was the beer was some shitty hipster craft beer, still drank plenty though

Played through the first act in one sitting last night (not that that was a whole lot of time) but it's great so far. The previously on Gears thing at the start was weird. Not the recap just that text. It's not a TV show. It just wasn't exactly cinematic.

Interested to see where the story goes. Seeing what Nathan Drake would look like on 'Gear' is entertaining.

Thanks to the incredible support from our fans, Gears 5 kicked off the Holiday season strong – attracting over three million players in its opening weekend and setting new records for Xbox Game Pass with the biggest launch week of any Xbox Game Studios title this generation. The performance easily doubled the first week’s debut of Gears of War 4 and made Gears 5 the most-played Xbox Game Studios title in its first week since 2012’s Halo 4. First week performance includes the four-day early access period beginning Friday, September 6, which was exclusive to Gears 5 Ultimate Edition and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members. On the PC, Gears 5 has nearly tripled the performance of its predecessor, becoming the biggest-ever launch for Xbox Game Pass for PC, and Xbox Game Studios’ best-ever debut on Steam.

Started the campaign last night and am pleasently wow'ed, especially relative to the luke warm start of Gears 4. Dave/Jack is one of those gameplay mechanics that seems so simple on paper but adds a lot during gameplay eg: getting him to push through a wall to unlock a door. Visuals are ridiculous and it runs like gold on a 5700 XT.

Not that I know anything about GoW but those screens/videos are indeed pretty, and that's running 4K 60fps on a XboneX? Pretty damn amazing. o_o

Finished it last week. Was a great game. Though I spoke too soon on the Nathan Drake part
Spoiler!
Wasn't expecting the main character swap, and not sure if I liked it or cared at all. In terms of driving the story forward there was no real need to make Kate the main playable character.

Finished Act 3 last night and am loving it. Goddamn the fire hangar is pretty.

Is Gears 1 Ultimate worth a download? Reviews are average mainly due to what appears to be technical issues when it released.

Gears 1 ultimate suffers from framerate issues, which is weird for such an old game(single threaded bottleneck?). It runs more than 60fps for the most part but there are parts where it just mysteriously falls below 60. If you have gamepass, 4 might be worth a look once you're done with 5. That runs and looks really good on PC, has some nice set pieces.

Played and enjoyed 4 before starting 5.

Glad I did as I'm across the main and supporting characters. It's also good to notice 5's enhancements over 4.
