Deathloop (PC, PS5) - 10/10 (IGN)

Post by Ambrose Burnside »

No word of a Series X version :?
Nothing about it screams next gen, but it looks cool as hell.

From the developers of Dishonoured.

Awesome trailer. Looks cool indeed though I'm more just sitting here thinking "Wow, great job on that trailer guys."

Despite its seemingly endless complexities, Deathloop is one of the most confidently designed games I’ve ever played. Arkane Studios has crafted a world made of ideas linked by meaningful connections; time influences space, space influences tactics, and tactics influence loadouts. Its unique, high-concept ideas around time loops and non-linear investigation work are implemented with elegance, making its systems feel effortless to navigate, learn from, and ultimately master. A new high watermark for Arkane and developers of similar games to aspire to, Deathloop is a game like no other.

Deathloop encases fun investigation work and satisfying combat in a unique time loop mechanic to create a tremendously satisfying adventure.

Masterpiece 10/10

Watched ACG's review, not convinced these mainstream reviews aren't paid for. Will wait for a sale on it.

I've thought this looks good ever since the very first reveal.
The saturation marketing hasn't helped it any, but yet, I didn't understand the hate that it generated either.
Interesting that it's getting 10's. That makes me sus. Is it just thirst for something decent? Or like you say Rors, moneyhats?
EasyAllies gave it an 8.

Bethesda game, so now owned by Microsoft, but they had to honour the Sony contracts.
Even though it's not my type of game, I am curious. I'll probably pick it up cheap down the road, or try it when it inevitably comes to Gamepass.

Picked this up yesterday via click and collect JB.

Absolutely fantastic game. Truely a joy to play and discover. If you’re familiar with Dishonored 2 you’ll recognise some similarities. But it goes further.

I’ll just cut and paste what I wrote on Era’s OT.

But in a nutshell, PS5 and PC owners, don’t miss out on this! The scores are not some money hats, ; this is legit that great.

Well done MS, too. With your purchase of Bethesda, you have one of the best, most talented devs in the business.

From Era my impressions:
Wow, 30 minutes in and it’s absolutely amazing!

Everything feels so tight. The controls, sound design, dialogue is really good.

Still very early in but I love how you learn more about yourself bit by bit.

Audio is amazing. Sound design is top notch.

Very impressed so far!
The DS haptic and adaptive triggers are excellent.
Over 2 hours in and still blown away.
I literally couldn’t be more pleased and it has surpassed every other game I’ve played before in a long time.

I only have two issues but they are not related to the game.

First is I have had a pause for 5 seconds and the second thing that happened was it froze and I had to close the game and start it up again losing some progress.

I really hope they address these bugs and I know others have complained about it.

The level design is first class. Every corner of the environment is a learning experience as I don’t know what’s lurking behind and eager to discover. I love the lore.

The character you play and yourself are both in the same situation: Learning what’s going on.

Over 2 hrs, solid performance on PS5. I can’t remember the game ever dropping a frame.

I just disabled the minor auto-aim the game has on by default. Has anyone else done the same?
This has to be one of the best controlling games I’ve played. It’s like the DS was made for it.
My only issues where, the game paused for 5 seconds and I had one freeze where I had to close the game and start it up.

Picked it up on PS5. The DS adaptive triggers and haptic feedback are a standout.

The controls are just perfect. A joy to control.

It even uses the inbuilt speaker for dialogue.

Image quality is excellent. One of the cleanest games I’ve seen and in performance mode, 60fps resolution is excellent, dynamic 4K but very sharp. It avg 1440p.

The dialogue is fast, witty and clever .

You won’t get tired of hearing NPC’s and conversions between different characters.

Game size is relate small, just 29GB.

Loading is fairly quick but not as fast as Sony’s own titles.

Go check it out.

It sucks that by the time I get a PS5 it'll be out on Xbox. Does sound great, am genuinely jealous this time, I might get it on PC but I'd rather play it on the big screen.

Didn't know this was Arkane. Will probably get it on PC but have heard the port isn't great.

Combination of technical issues on PC and no PS5 means I'll wait until it's on Game Pass. Will probably still opt for the PC version as it's an FPS and I prefer keyboard and mouse. Bugs should be squashed by then.

Does seem to be one of the first genuine next gen games though. Glad PS5 owners get one last hurrah before Bethesda games go bye bye.

Looks good. Will pick up eventually. Lots of negatvie reports about performance which is a shame. Gmanlives said he turned resolution down to 1080p on his 3080ti powered rig and it still ran badly. Dishonored 2 uses the same in-house VOID engine and also performs poorly.

Deathloop (PC, PS5) - 10/10 (IGN)

Post by flipswitch »

It’s a real shame about the PC version and I believe the situation was similar with Dishonored 2 at the time.

I know not everyone is experiencing issues on PC and some are running into problems on console.

I would think they would be ironed out soon.

I don’t think I had any freezes/crashes with Dishonored 2 but my PC was very much capable of running it ( 8700k/1080ti) at the time but had frequent stutters, but locking the FPS fixed this.

Arkane acknowledge PC performance issues and say they're looking into it.

Deathloop has been spotted on XBL. I believe it’s a game pass title and it just had its 1 year anniversary.

So in other words, try it out. :)

Win for Game Pass here, I was gonna buy it but now no need! Pre-installing it now, was disappointed I couldn't get it earlier but hopefully it lives up to the hype I have in my mind.

Is this game really a 10/10 game? I've watched some gameplay and it just doesn't look like a 10/10 game. I'm mildly interested.

I really couldn’t get into it. Repetitive, bland, non-sensical, and I don’t see the point to using any weapon other than the dagger.

Regretted paying full price for it.

No far from it. I forced myself through to the end but I didn't really enjoy it. Glad I didn't cave and fork out for a PS5 when it came out and all the hype.

I gave it a crack and agreed. Is it just me or do Sony exclusives get an extra point or two in reviews? /bitter

I long for highly polished, highly linear single player games these days. Unless you're a gem like Outer Wilds.

Deathloop was the big game in the Humble Bundle the other day. Still yet to play. Hearing it is part of the Dishonoured universe, want to play through all three games in row now.
