Wiimote Woundup
So the Wii has been out a couple of weeks and the h4x0rz have been busy little beavers.
Glovepie is out and has hacked a VR glove driver to have the Wiimote working in Windows.
While not using the same driver, check out this video:
Mac user? Never fear because some smart nihonjin has figured out how to use the thing with the built in Bluetooth and has released DarwiinRemote.
Liquidice's Wii Hacks has a fairly comprehensive guide on how to make the Wiimote function as a mouse.
So what big stuff are we still waiting on? Nunchuck support will probably be the big one. Sensor bar support to let the Wii function as a pointer would be cool too.
On the VC front we have ADAPTERS! Now you can use the original controllers for your VC games just like nature intended you to!
I'll try to keep this thread updated with anything interesting related to Wiimote on PC/Mac and Wii hacking in general.

Ahh I see, I didn't watch the whole video, just a bit of it to see what it was like so if it's mentioned that's why I missed it.Talez wrote:Its because currently its emulating keypresses and not a mouse.Ben wrote:If they could increase the sensitivity a bit I'm sure it'd work better, but other than that I think the main problem stems from the fact that it's relying solely on the accelerometer rather than IR for aiming.

OSX using the IR remote as a pointing device. It looks pretty good and lag free on the pointer.
And Windows, although you can't see the accuracy or response it still looks pretty promising.

All we need now is a third party sensor bar for PCs that uses USB/batteries

I'm sorry lestat?lestat wrote:That video clearly shows the lag problems i talked about with my impressions on the wiimote.
if that's the lag you're talking about, the lag that comes from using only accelerometer to try and emulate a mouse through keypresses, which is (according to you) far less laggy, then i say you haven't used the thing yet. the video is quite clearly totally different to using it on the wii, in the flesh. what planet are you on?
meanwhile, these hacking efforts are awesome, and i can't wait for it to become actually useful/usable.

selfish, seriously.
His mind is made up. You're not going to change it and you're just going to be beating your head against the wall.
He'll work it all out eventually. Meanwhile, try to just ignore him. It's not like anyone here that hasn't got a Wii already is going to be convinced to buy one so if they want to use lestat's lag-o-rific posts to feel better about the anti-GAMECUBE NINTENDO + WAGGLE circlejerk then more power to them. They're the ones who are going to be missing out on a whole new gaming experience.

According to N-Fags, no. According to haters, yes.Candy Arse wrote:Fuck. Does the actual Wii lag like that in the first vid?! I need to know.
From what i can gather from what i have read, there is lag in certain aspects of it, but games like Zelda and WiiSports aren't really affected by it. I know many people think it isn't present, but just like with a 30fps racer, some people won't notice, some won't care... others will just refuse to accept it.

Plus, as far as I can see, the driver has a built in dead zone for tilting. If it didn't have one it would most likely drive you batshit loco.selfish wrote:if that's the lag you're talking about, the lag that comes from using only accelerometer to try and emulate a mouse through keypresses
