I wish 30fps would just go away for good, but I doubt that kind of frame-rate sensitivity / awareness would ever reach critical mass.

Even when you don't notice that something you're playing is 30fps, you're still definitely having a less pleasant experience.

I'm firmly in the "I don't really care about 30fps" group, as long as the game is good.
Having said that, I definitely notice, prefer and enjoy 60fps more. It's clearly better and smoother.

Yup, 30fps ain't a deal breaker for me either. Halo was awesome, The Witcher, GTA, Uncharted, Perfect Dark 64, enjoyed them all and never whinged about frame rates.

Yes 4K next gen will most likely be 60fps for online and racing. 30fps for every other genre. (to maximise beauty)

60fps across the board for all games in 1080p mode. (at least that's what sony and ms should encourage the third parties to aim at. No more 30fps at 1080p next gen unless it's splitscreen game hehe)

And as a bonus if they are super-talented: a 1080P 120 FPS mode. I think this might be cool for an antigravity racing game where you can reach insane speeds and you push a button to go into bullettime mode to shoot opponents with a turret gun to disable them. (shooter racer hybrid - like the vehicle boss missions in mad max. Your driver avatar is gifted with the "Force"type ability so it allow you to kill things even at high speed)

One of the reasons we need 60fps is the competitive scene. A game like Splatoon wouldn't be as fun without smooth FPS. It's linked to controls period. You can begin to respond to danger faster the quicker the screen refreshes. And Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon wouldn't be as enjoyable if nintendo had aimed for better graphics but lower framerate. However when you think of cutscenes, it's got the stigma of "the soap opera effect" when the game is a horror game which makes things seem fake. The soap opera effect reminds you that what you are seeing isn't quite right because the human eyes (which work different from CG image) like to blur motion together when objects move across your view very quickly and distort the perceived shape of the object, rather than give you a crisp image which is what computer games like to do. It's about maintaining the feeling of being inside a guy's head in FPV and immersion so you feel the experience matches what it would actually look like in real life. Do you want your horror game to just be a game only or to recreate the way the human eye sees things? The latter is more important for that genre because it increases your sense of vulnerablility of not being able to see too clearly all the time. If a quick-footed monster lunges at you suddenly from close range as you turn your head jerkily to face it mid-attack, it's more realistic to NOT see crisp detail of its skin in UHD like a CG cartoon or game, but just a blur of the body coming at you because of the way our eyes work. Then your eyes adjust and focus on it as it remains still. (you now see its shape and texture in detail because you had time to focus your eyes on it. A high refresh rate can sometimes spoil the experience in this instance due to not taking into account we don't have Cyber implants in our skull yet)

Nek minnit, bought a PSVR V2 kit despite saying I wouldn't.

Now I got more reason to stretch out this gen.

In theory the VR kit might be forward compatible with PS5.

There's no reason why it shouldn't, it's basically just another vdu.

New trailer and release date announced. November 8th.

Looks like a Kojima game, however the gameplay sections in the trailer don’t look that hot imo.

The initial reveal, when was it, last year or the year before, did absolutely nothing for me at all. It looked slow, baren, unexciting and bland. I don't even have a desire to watch that video to see if it's changed. Based on that, I expect it'll sell reasonably well because it's Kojima, but like MGS4, it'll get mixed reception.

Bet it'll be polished af though.

You should watch the new one, gives you a better idea of what they final game will be like. I think it’s online oriented so I’m unsure if there’s a single player mode.

I wasn’t expecting the game this soon. It was just a few years ago they were looking for an engine, and the team isn’t as big as the MGS games.

Will it be unfinished in a way like MGS5?

I am slightly worried that it is. I know you said polished AF, but I can’t get MGS5 out of my head

Usually that time of the year is packed with competition, so I don't know what to expect. What gameplay was shown looked pretty rough and uninteresting. I just don't know what to expect.

MGSV was polished I might add, I was talking more in regards to the story and mission design, how it felt unfinished. Needed more time in the oven.

I believe MGS5 dropping away toward the latter stages coincides with Konami and Kojima’s relationship disintegrating.

Yeah. Game is brilliant mechanically, and the gameplay is top notch. Konami wanted it out more quicker I guess..

Personally I thought Ground Zero was better but just because it was more refined. MGSV is a good stealth game with a few dozen bases/outposts to muck around with, but the story and flow were a bit hickledy pickledy.
