Game Informer Australia = dead
link
A real shame. They did some really good work on shitty workplace culture and unionisation in the games industry, the NBN, the push for an R rating etc.
The only magazine I've bought (apart from Retro Gamer compilations) since Atomic shut down all those years ago.
Fuck the Internet and fuck EB Games
PS: Is there anything decent out there in newsagent land anymore or should I just join the 21st century?

Shame, I'd grab a copy of this on for flights, only the other month I was thinking I probably should subscribe it's so cheap and a decent read. They were completely clueless on unionising and why it'll never happen but interesting reads, found they reviewed a good spread of games too.

Gamestop dying didn't help it seems
Re: Game Informer Australia = dead
Confused what does GameStop and EB got to do with it? Did they sell it then stop?

Where do you buy your Retro Gamer compilations from?Ambrose Burnside wrote: The only magazine I've bought (apart from Retro Gamer compilations) since Atomic shut down all those years ago.
Re: Game Informer Australia = dead
Ok so what's EB got to do with the magazine though? Game Stop the company is fine and not dying/dead I am so confused?

Re: Game Informer Australia = dead
Isn't Gamestops turnover the lowest its ever been and they shut down a few hundred stores in the US?

Re: Game Informer Australia = dead
Yeah they shut some under performing stores down but what world wide have 7500 and are flush with cash from a sale of the mobile phone business. They've been looking at ways to try and branch out for years and I think they'll continue, cyclical too. I expect them to increase margins again with new ps5 and xbox's. Anyway how's this go with the magazine?

They're the publishers. It's why the only ads you'll see in Game Informer are from EB Games.
They've also jacked up the price of the last issue to $10. Bastards. Still bought it

Re: Game Informer Australia = dead
I wonder how long EB has left in this country, Gamestop in the US is losing money badly. With more and more gaming moving to digital/subscription services, the business model of retail games/trade ins is going the way of the old video rental store.
If you have a lot of credit sitting at these places, I would spend it sooner rather than later.

Re: Game Informer Australia = dead
I think you are way over stating the business issues of game stop. They won't disappear anytime soon but we will see them continue to add more crap maybe buy more businesses so they are more than a game shop.
Ok I get the Game Informer link now.. well if I knew that I would have been less inclined to buy it

Re: Game Informer Australia = dead
I thought everyone knew the Game Informer link, it's the main reason why I didn't buy it.

Re: Game Informer Australia = dead
Well I don't generally go shopping at EB or take much notice of them.. a main reason is all their shops somehow stink and that's before getting into all the pricing issues and the new games resold after being "rented"

Re: Game Informer Australia = dead
I think more and more of us don't walk into a EB anymore, that's the fundamental issue. That's why the stores are filled with collector/figurine crap these days instead of actual games. I expect to see stores close down the next generation as we move to more digital based console gaming.

Local newsagents tend to have them. I pop in once a month or so to see if there's one on the shelf.Candy Arse wrote:Where do you buy your Retro Gamer compilations from?Ambrose Burnside wrote: The only magazine I've bought (apart from Retro Gamer compilations) since Atomic shut down all those years ago.
