This is bizarre enough that I'd like to at least try it
Candy Arse wrote:Also it kind of sounds like The Postman: The Game. The Postman being one of the very best Kevin Costner films you haven't seen so based on the strengths of one of my fav Costner films and Kojima, they can take my money.

It was seriously the first thing I thought of once I read an explanation of the game's premise.
Kojima loves The Postman. Hard to say no after you realise that.

I love The Postman,my favorite Costner flick but now I'm torn between getting this game or not. I will wait for Edge and GamesTM for their reviews. An 8 and a 7 from one or the other is an insta buy. 7 from both, may wait.

Edge's editor said they're not reviewing it because i) the embargo insisted reviews must be based on a finished playthrough and ii) they didn't finish it because they hated it.t0mby wrote:I love The Postman,my favorite Costner flick but now I'm torn between getting this game or not. Some streams are up, damn the game has a lot of framerate issues, chug/stutter city. I wonder if that's why Kojima pushed for a PC version.

Here's the Edge tweet. Guess that cements my decision, besides, Shenmue 3 is just around the corner. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Death Stranding gameplay reveal
I saw benches with the game running > 60fps. That's significantly better than console and you have g-sync/freesync to not have stutter/frame pacing problems.t0mby wrote:Yeah cos the PC fixed the framerate issues for RDR2.lestat wrote:Some streams are up, damn the game has a lot of framerate issues, chug/stutter city. This is the issue with consoles currently because of hdmi 2.0, PS4 has no freesync at all and on xbox one X it's LFC is limited by the refresh rate of 60hz at 1440p and above. 1080p you can do 120hz and have full LFC over hdmi 2.0.
Watching these streams, wow the gameplay is a snoozefest. The combat is really bad too, I totally get the Edge guy's tweet now.

P.S I'm out for now on Death Stranding after hearing the Giant Bomb team discuss it. There's not much doing in the game by the sounds of it. I guess it really IS The Postman; The Game

I had zero issues. Did the prologue again, looked incredible, the level of detail is out of this world. Ran the benchmark, averaged 76fps at 1440p with the suggested settings (mix of everything).

Re: Death Stranding gameplay reveal
I'll have to check latest media. The intended experience sounds compelling. We've been talking about the plight of modern open world games, in particular Ubisoft, microtransactions, level grind, games as a service. So it's a positive, pretty ballsy move to drop a AAA budget into an open world game that's intentionally boring, lonely and frustrating in order to amplify an overall emotional experience and vision (whether that vision rubs off on players or not).
I'm definitely getting it if only for the music and art that's gone into it. I'm line-ball with Kojima's taste in art and music.

Good god I just looked up the licensed tracks used in MGS5. I knew A-ha was there. I mean, really. Any game director who drops a licensed tracklist of this calibre into their game has full rights to my recreational budget 24/7.

Yep I expect performance to get even better as Rockstar do a few more patches and nvidia/amd release some better drivers. Steam release is in a month, so no doubt this release is somewhat beta and Rockstar know it.Rorschach wrote:I had zero issues. Re: Death Stranding gameplay reveal
The small details like the water crystals in the snow drifts is incredible. I saw there was a 3 gig patch yesterday. The only issue I'm having is no voices in the cutscenes. Suspect this relates to the game not being able to account for 2.0 speaker setups. Not a deal breaker at this point.

Death Stranding gameplay reveal
Watched a walkthrough video for roughly 5 minutes and couldn’t stomach any more.
I skipped through the cutscenes and went straight to the gameplay.
He must’ve had 20 brief cases packed on top of him, both his arms were occupied with additional cases.
Character Sam was micromanaging his luggage. Switching between things, might hold this with my left hand, no, I could potentially stack this on my back.
Oh shit, you’re over-encumbered.
Kojima believes he has created a new genre.

Translation: Fetch quests.Death Stranding is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the "Strand" or connection.
