I'm playing it tonight (through the Epic launcher) and if it's as mint as I am expecting, you're going to get trolled to a cinder.

I’ve watched 1440p video of RDR2 being benchmarked on latest GPUs at high settings. Easily surpassing 60fps and looks amazing.

Death Stranding gameplay reveal

Post by Peppermint Lounge »

SMH Death Stranding review headline confirming what we already know:

Curious to know where the PC version will release. Epic will be dropping their pants for that one.

Short-lived. Death Stranding for all.

This is a gush piece but it’s interesting to see how Kojima called out the future social internet in MGS2.

Between the endless dialogue and layers of intrigue, Metal Gear Solid was always fun to play. The life of a legendary super soldier is inherently more exciting and lends itself to interesting gameplay more than the life of a post-apocalyptic delivery guy. But more than that, Death Stranding bogs itself down in minutiae and totally unessecary bloat, while failing to capitalise on the aspects of gameplay that are legitimately engaging.

Like an art exhibition that asks you to walk 500 metres between each piece, there is worthwhile and moving stuff here and one could argue the drudgery and annoying busywork is all part of the aesthetic experience. But that doesn't make it an easily recommended way to spend 50 hours of your time.

50 hours of fetch quests and Kojima-wank with none of the fun of Metal Gear Solid.

People are excited about the thought of being bored out of their minds.

What a world we live in.

But then you get John Linneman from DF who loves that it's an open world game that doesn't require you to just press forward.

*slow toke on pipe*

So we have a game that matches the fidelity of its earliest teasers (no Watch Dogs 1 style bullshots), its technical specs and performance is excellent across both PS platforms on release (no 30gb day 1 patch required), no microtransactions and it doesn't conform to another meaningless open world full of fast travel points (Ghost Recon Breakpoint). We've been calling for this in new release games for years. Whether it's actually a game you like is subjective and whether you do or don't the project still deserves credit for its technical condition.

It sucks that the bar is set so low we're celebrating a game with no bullshots, day one patches or microtransactions even though the universal consensus is that the actual gameplay is shit.

I expect this to break all sorts of 7 day return records. Assuming enough people buy it to be able to set records in the first place.

Which is a shame, I love Metal Gear Solid.

The splash page is already up on Steam. Selling for $99.95AUD. Hard pass until prices come down

I expect EB to have it for cheap as on Boxing Day.

Edit
Actually, maybe not if it's Sony funded, they're pretty slow at dropping their exclusive prices.

Death Stranding gameplay reveal

Post by Peppermint Lounge »

Stumble simulator. ICO and Shadow of the Colossus both have awkward push pull momentum traversal gameplay that pays off with big emotional hits. Those games weren’t everyone’s cup of tea either. I suspect DS is similar. The thing with DS is they’ve made it a 50 hour game.

Death Stranding gameplay reveal

Post by flipswitch »

I caved and bought it lolz. If the game sucks I can always use it as some form of relaxation!

I found out I’m getting low on HDD space. Had to delete classic like The Order 1886 and few others.

Might be time to invest in a portable hdd.

Played an hour or more, passed the prologue but it hasn’t satisfied me. Not really into the story and gameplay I’m already tiring of.

Back to EB tomorrow.

Death Stranding gameplay reveal

I watched the MGS Legacy video that’s on Steam last night. The Famitsu dude is among the industry people heaping praise upon Kojima.

The kult of Kojima.

Looking at UK sales numbers though, the problem is this Kult has been thinning over the years as many awake from the spell.

I am very curious how much money Sony sank into this project. Only Kojima could get Sony to bank roll a project and still get PC publishing rights.
