Death Stranding gameplay reveal
I'm not sure if Kojima is trolling us or not. You decide!

I’m sure there’s more to do in the game than pissing and fetch quests.
It’s going to be really interesting to see how this turns out and scores.

Well there it is, the power of the PC platform compels Kojima, Worst kept secret in the industry.Peppermint Lounge wrote:PC version confirmed.

Will be interesting to see how the decima engine runs on PC. If the reviews turn out amazing we won't have to slum it on PS4 at that stuttery sub 30fps framerate they recently demoed.

The lack of hype for this game is quite something.
I think it looks boring as batshit, but still. Lots of boring games are popular

That’s why I’m so eager for the reviews. It looks really bizarre, don’t know what to expect and I wonder how long it will be and if it was rushed for release.

Re: Death Stranding gameplay reveal
That trailer showed a lot more story wise than we've seen before, such a bizarre and trippy world/story. The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is the whole "America" thing, seems corny and maga like.
Going to be interesting to see what review scores this gets. Kojima games always score higher than they deserve imo, I wonder if this will continue.

Re: Death Stranding gameplay reveal
Watched the trailer. I love the visuals and colour pallette. Or lack of colour pallette. Either way the cold monochrome works for me. The only gameplay I've been able to discern is waddling around with a backpack on dodging various attacks. Looks as fun as it reads. Some writer/reviewer tweeted an acknowledgment of the review embargo before going on to share his conclusion of the game. He said:
Reviewers are saying the launch trailer is spoiler-heavy, btw.“Tomorrow is in my hands, and it is breathtaking, easily one of the most unique and stunning experiences I’ve had in all my years of gaming,”

Kojima said he invented a new genre.
Reviews are out at 6PM AEDT.
I wonder what he will call it?For Kojima, Death Stranding represents more than a game, but the launch of an entirely new genre, with a projected impact similar to the tactical stealth gameplay introduced in Kojima's 1998 game, Metal Gear Solid.
Reviews are out at 6PM AEDT.

Quote hijacked from Era
Polygon,
Polygon,
That last sentence is hilarious. No fast travel? Luggage simulatorIt takes about 10 hours for the throat-clearing to wrap up and for Death Stranding’s structure and mechanics to fully reveal themselves. And those 10 hours are some of the weakest in the game, thanks to the endless cutscenes and a series of bummer quests that have me lugging packages (and even a corpse!) up steep hills in the rain. I’m never given a great reason for these initial chores; I do them because I’m told I must. It is the epitome of a slog, and it’s easy to imagine that many players won’t ever make it past this stretch of the game.
But even if you do, here’s the thing: The entire game is about lugging packages. That’s what you’ll be doing whenever you’re in control of Sam: bringing a box or boxes from one part of the map to another. Saying it out loud, it sounds like absolute misery.

Re: Death Stranding gameplay reveal
https://press-start.com.au/reviews/play ... ng-review/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;I’ll be more than happy to never set foot in the game’s world again because it is, at times, oppressively lonely and exists in contradiction of the game’s message and the game’s core concept is very much formed around the fetch quest, one aspect of open-world titles most loathed fallbacks.
...
Death Stranding is a game that’s sure to divide critics and gamers the world over. For me, Kojima’s arrogance in creating a forty-hour series of fetch quests is superseded by his knack for building worlds and stories, along with the characters that inhabit them. I experienced highs and cavernous lows with Death Stranding, but it’s a game I’m still thinking about days after rolling the credits. Whether it’s a superb video game or not, that alone is the mark of something special
Gives it 8/10 despite hating the gameplay derp.
Game sounds shit.

Re: Death Stranding gameplay reveal
One particularly torturous late-game story mission required me to carry a hefty weight on my back through a visibility-masking snowstorm and over near-vertical stretches of terrain. It took me 51 minutes to complete. Spending close to an hour schlepping heavy cargo through waist-deep snow, up and down mountains, constantly pushing against fierce winds, in a pair of shoes that wear out over time isn’t an enjoyable video game mission – it’s a lecture your parents used to give you when you complained about having to walk to school."
I have an idea for micro transactions. Call an Uber. $7.20 will get you to your destination in minutes.

Re: Death Stranding gameplay reveal
82 meta with Kojima inflation sounds like the game is as boring and tedious as it looked in all the videos I've seen.
Pass.

Watching the games radar review. He literally said all you do is deliver packages.

MAIN MISSION : Deliver package
SECONDARY : Deliver package
OPTIONAL: Deliver Package

40 hours, Jesus what is it with games these days, why does something that might be an enjoyable 5-10 hour experience need to be stretched out to 40-50hrs now.

Nup. I'm in. Got my Unknown Pleasures t-shirt on. Pass me the pipe, Kojima.
All I have to do is avoid spoilers until mid-2020-ish.

Re: Death Stranding gameplay reveal
Reviews are all over the place for this, I read some extremely glowing reviews last night on Eurogamer and Kotaku, then on the flipside I've read middling reviews down to "It's boring AF".
But since I'm at the same table as Pepp waiting for the pipe to come around, I'm in.
Also it kind of sounds like The Postman: The Game. The Postman being one of the very best Kevin Costner films you haven't seen so based on the strengths of one of my fav Costner films and Kojima, they can take my money.

I'm in.
Will have to wait a few weeks as I fly to Vietnam for 2 weeks on the 7th.
The theme to the game should be worth the price of admission. I get that people would be turned off about it being a luggage simulator but I think we are at junction point where people want these huge worlds and "real" experiences but when it comes to crunch suddenly they don't.
People made out that Andromeda was a slog in terms of covering lots of ground.. I loved that part of traversing the maps so I'm prepared to give this a go.. plus the art direction in general is fucking beautiful

I am also in, but won't be able to get stuck in until close to Xmas.
This is my first Kojima game I will be playing through since PS1 Metal Gear Solid, which I did enjoy and still own.
(I played a little MGSV, and enjoyed what I saw of that, and of course played around with PT).
