Re: Xbox (Series X)
PS3 cost was offset by the fact a bluray player was $1500 at the time.
Same goes with PS2 with it being cheaper than a DVD player, so better value.
These days consoles don't have that added value to offset the price, since streaming and smart TVs are a thing.
It's part of that whole flawed xbox one strategy of it being a media hub, that idea died this generation.
Remember guys the days of import consoles, I'm glad we don't need to that crap anymore, having to own 2 consoles to play games from all regions, 50hz games, remember that shit?!

It's much more consumer friendly, but I think there was some level of satisfaction from importing and getting a console or game early and cheaper. When I imported Animal Crossing for Gamecube and a Freeloader it was less than the PAL price ended up being and got it about 6-12 months earlier.lestat wrote:Remember guys the days of import consoles, I'm glad we don't need to that crap anymore, having to own 2 consoles to play games from all regions, 50hz games, remember that shit?!

I remember in 50Hz (JP) PSO v2 there was one S-rank challenge that was impossible to complete. Someone else in the team had to do a particular piece of running. One of those games that really did move at 5/6ths the normal speed.

I have fond memories of receiving Munch's Oddysee and Super Monkey Ball in the mail, then the excruciating wait for either the Xbox or Gamecube to turn up. Finally the Xbox arrived, and I discovered the TV at my parents place didn't support NTSC.pilonv1 wrote:It's much more consumer friendly, but I think there was some level of satisfaction from importing and getting a console or game early and cheaper. Yes there was a level of elitism with importing consoles/games that was fun, being first to play and experience stuff.pilonv1 wrote:It's much more consumer friendly, but I think there was some level of satisfaction from importing and getting a console or game early and cheaper. Re: Xbox (Series X)
haha reminds me of was it burn.com.au? Having Japanese VMU's for the DC when no local stock came. I had a head wobble going into EB with that.
I don't miss the days waiting 1/2 a year to get the xbox 360, I think that was the last one that had a launch delay? The PS4 and Xbox One launches were a bit mute compared to previous ones as I think everyone's expectations had gone down so far that there was no real interest to rush out and get something that's already under powered. I found it odd I could roll into JB at midnight and get one and I think this was including throwing in Fifa for free as a launch day game and there was no one really there and even months after launch day ones were still easy to get.
This next gen I think will rectify that and has me excited, I'll be moving forward with a new TV as well so I'll be in the modern world in the living room.

The last anything gaming-related I imported super early was the JP launch PS3 I got just to play VF5. Still works to this day.lestat wrote:Yes there was a level of elitism with importing consoles/games that was fun, being first to play and experience stuff.pilonv1 wrote:It's much more consumer friendly, but I think there was some level of satisfaction from importing and getting a console or game early and cheaper. No launch exclusives, everything will be playable on the Xbox One too.

Re: Xbox (Series X)
So I just buckled and bought a One X, and I was instantly reminded of why I stopped using my bone the first time around. I fucking hate using it. I couldn't even start the thing up without it collapsing in a fit at not being able to download an update. Then there's navigating the OS, which is a clusterfuck.
So, looking story short, Microsoft had better be working hard on the UI and UX for the Series X, because otherwise, I'm out.

For a company that's been making operating systems and designing user interfaces since day one,it's crazy how bad Microsoft has been at it with Xbox.

Shut the gate! At least everything you need to find is viewable on one screen and not buried deep in menus that are confusing af.Froggy wrote:Still shits on the PlayStation abomination.

Not quite the same - 360 was continually out-performing PS3 on the multiplatform titles. And with games like Mass Effect and Bioshock, it was a no-brainer (for most of us).Ambrose Burnside wrote:Yes.Madmya wrote:The 360 launched for $650, do we really believe that it's beyond the pale to ask for a higher price, 14 years later?
How did the higher price PS3 fare against the $650 Xbox 360?

Re: Xbox (Series X)
So they went from rank underdogs in the PS2 vs Xbox era to breaking even and in many ways dominating in the PS3 vs Xbox 360 era by producing a console both cheaper AND more powerful (or at least easier to squeeze out maximum power).Madmya wrote:Not quite the same - 360 was continually out-performing PS3 on the multiplatform titles. Re: Xbox (Series X)
It was simple and easy to understand. The later UI was bloated - haven't used the current Xbox One but heard it's average. I don't mind the current PS4 UI but I think the Switch one takes it for overall ease of use.Madmya wrote:I'll never understand the love for the Blades.
