Pre-ordered a PS5 a few months ago, got woken up by a phone call today telling me it's in stock (I'm on nightshift, hence sleeping). My tired head and lack of thinking said "Yeah, nah, put me at the bottom of the list and give it to the next person. 🙄

Finally got one coming. Looking forward to Horizon, happy to get Dirt 5 free this month. Likely to get Miles Morales too.

I haven't been keeping up with it though; anything worth knowing about?

I put my name down at JB HiFi about 3 weeks ago. Not anticipating a call for some time.

I ended up getting a called Tuesday before last for the next shipment. Nabbed it and chucked it on a local auction site, profited $180 after fees. I really wanted to keep it but my Clubsport failed it's roadworthy equivalent, needed around $1000 worth of parts. I'll get another eventually when the time is right. I did originally try to sell some shares I had but after 8 days they hadn't sold so this was my last option.

To be honest, it's like any PS new gen. Things are slow on the exclusive front.
Ratchet and Clank and Returnal are decent. Demons Souls if that's your cup of tea. Definitely check out Astros Playroom also.
There's a stack of PS4 stuff that's upgraded, standout is obviously Ghost of Tsushima. Guilty Gear Strive if you like a good 2d fighter.
Horizon, GT7, and Ghostwire Tokyo definitely in 2022.
To me, it's my primary console just because of how smooth and snappy everything is.
Coming back from the clunky Series S dash is so relieving.
Just looking at my goty 2021 short list, and of the 5, only one of them is on Xbox. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Rors
Actually, only about 5 days ago we just made a fresh Twitter account to follow a few different users that notify of stock drops. We just hadn't thought of doing it earlier, then literally 3 days later, purchased from Big W online.

Admittedly, the stock sold out within 6 minutes of the notification. Turning on its push notifications was the deal maker.

Which accounts? Not sure sorry, I actually don't have a real account on Twitter and the one we used is already deleted (having served its purpose). Keywords to look for: PS5 stock drop Australia.

@Elf
Thanks for that quick overview. Yeah not expecting a deluge of new amazing things, just with how things are. But still got at least 4 things coming we're looking forward to, and yeah, really keen to try out Astro's playroom. Heard a lot of good things about it, and the controller.

Yeah, I signed up to some of those Twitter accounts but never quick enough. Not sure if bots or scalpers who are grabbing whatever stock is available but sucks because they are for sale on the grey market for $1200AUD which I refuse to pay. Buying the console just to flip it just the lowest - particularly the ones that gloat about it in their ads, one of the worst aspects of the free economy at play. I'm happy to wait, I have a Series X to play for now. Nothing except Demon Souls really jumps out at me anyway.

Got the dreaded blue lights of death late last week. Rebooted the console and noticed my 2tb Gigabyte m.2 ssd wasn't showing up in the storage options. Restarted the console to see if it may be an error and again, blue lights of death! I removed the m.2 and console started up fine. I have a faulty ssd! After only a month and a half!!! Luckily Amazon will be giving me a full refund and I will be getting a Samsung m.2 now.

Only just arrived so just first impressions, but I'm feeling like the DS5 controller doesn't have the same build quality as the DS4. The touchpad in particular has maybe triple the wiggle. I think I prefer the rounded handholds of the DS4 also, over the crisp seam your palms feel on the DS5.

Definitely looks cooler though. I much prefer the asymmetrical layout of MS controllers, but I gotta admit the DS5 definitely looks fancypants.

Finally got a PS5. The wait wasn't too bad - I put my name down for one at JB last November from memory. Feel good I didn't succumb and buy from a scalper. Also got a bit lucky and managed to snag Horizon Forbidden West at $89 instead of $109. First impressions of the system, it is a chonky unit - much larger than the Series X but slim enough to go into my entertainment unit horizontal. My preference was to mount it vertically however didn't have the space. Slightly concerned about heat but will keep an eye on it. At this point, very keen to try out some upgraded PS4 games, particularly Ghost of Tsushima (primary reason I wanted a PS5). Additionally, not sure if it was because I got the PS5 or not but there was a pretty large discount on PSN Plus for a year so grab it. The UI is thankfully similar to the PS4 and more intuitive than than the Xbox however I can't help but feel MS has Sony's number this generation with Game Pass. I've only bought a second hand copy of Cyberpunk for Xbox - everything else is on Game Pass that I want. Hoping Sony brings something to combat it.

Sony are working on their version of Game Pass, saw something mentioned on it a few weeks ago. You know Sony, they'll copy and try to improve on someone else's idea.

I think I hoped to see more particle effects in GT7 on PS5 - leaves, rubber and gravel on the tracks flicking up from the wheels, sandy kitty litter and grass when you run off the track.

The car models and ray tracing are pretty, but everything else looks pretty dated I feel.

Half frame rate reflections on the car really jar.

Hopefully GT8 won’t be targeted at PS4, and PS5 is capable of more.

Not a wise choice supporting last-gen, and this is what you get - last-gen graphics.

Frame rate looks inconsistent from the videos I’ve seen. Runs even worse and image quality takes a hit on last-gen.

Half frame rate reflections is embarrassing.

( I know I said last-gen far too many times)

Edit:

Okay, well I checked out 2 DF videos of it, and yes, it can look pretty decent, and they seem to like it quite a bit. Still not interested however.
Maybe down the line if they patch up the frame issues. 100GB is a lot for a game and I’d much rather use it for something more interesting .

As it is, I’m into CP2077 and H:FW. :)

I’ve had another GT7 session.

The first time around Bathurst during a sun-shower, in a modded GR4 Yaris was absolute bliss.

It really is very slick. I’ve set the attract mode to 60 seconds wait time, because that’s a 4K TV killer app on its own.

Those GT7 load times, or rather no load times, look pretty nice on PS5.

Don't look now but I purchased GT7 digitally. I figured it's a game I would always like on the SSD. I have seen way too many YT videos and I thought it was time to buy it.

I needed something like this ( racing) to change things up. Can't play only 3rd person/ first person shooters. Plus I liked GT:S.

The load times are another thing that sealed the deal. Having virtually less than a second makes as huge impact on playing another race or being fed up waiting for it to load if it were like on the PS4.

I did, reckoned this might reinvigorate up my interest in gaming.

All the fanboys on the Fakebook groups reckon it’s graphical perfection, but I feel some of the scenes are bland, characters look wooden, and some cityscapes look like a 4K GameCube title.

Guess I’m just bored of contemporary gaming but I’ll push through.

From what I’ve read about graphics you’re absolutely right, there are issues and inconsistencies . Those who have completed it however reckon it’s an excellent game.

I didn’t end up buying it, instead I opted for something different as I was in the mood for an AC game. I had not played one since Origins, so I picked up Assassin’s Creed Mirage ( price matched of course)

Love to read your thoughts as you progress through SM2.

I've noticed the same to the point where I thought it was a downgrade over the PS4 pro version of the original.

This looks often blurry and character models are very off. Particularly where Peter walked into the classroom and the first time you see MJs face. I was like what happened?

I then dialled down film grain and turned off chromatic aboration and VRR (don't have a TV that supports it anyway).

I think things actually look better now but could be just seeing what I want to see.
