What happens if you suddenly ran our of space on your console's HDD and need to clear up some space? You're basically SOL then.

prices are set by the publisher/distributor. The market determines whether this is a bearable thing or not. In the terms of a big name franchise like COD or Madden that gets bought every year no matter what by the core audience, the publisher may very well see an opportunity to increase prices, since they've effectively got a captive market.

The market doesn't set the price, it just determines if that price is ultimately worthwhile. It may very well be that the two are conflicting, but the publishers stick to their guns regardless and conduct an "education campaign" or something.
