Forum Software Upgrade
Hi All,
Recently our host provider forced an upgrade to PHP7.0 on our server, unfortunately the old forum software we were using was using functions which were deprecated, causing the breakage and problems some of you may have seen over the last day or two. I tried manually patching the code but the problems were so widespread, it was practically impossible to do.
Best course of action was to upgrade our board to the latest version of PHPBB which is what you're looking at now. Unfortunately the upgrade results in losing our old customized theme, the problem with PHPBB is customized themes wont move along to the latest versions nicely without substantial work. So at this stage I plan to stick with prosilver while I look into ways of making this easier.
You should find all the board features are here, just in a slightly different spot you're not used to, this new version makes installing extensions/modules easier. If anyone finds any major breaking issues, please post in this thread and I'll have a look when I can.

Thanks for all your hard work, boss!
Is there a way to bring on a "standard" dark theme in the interim?

Re: Forum Software Upgrade
working on it, I have found a theme that might work for us.
Re: Forum Software Upgrade
Ok looking into it more, it looks like PHPBB changed the way they do styles/themes and there is no longer php code in the style, so I've added 2 styles to the board, FlatStyle which is what I'm setting to default which is a nice white theme that matches our preference for orange. For people that want the older dark theme, select hexagonreborn from the theme/style option in your control panel.
Re: Forum Software Upgrade
I've also added the media embed extension, This supports a much wider net of embedding from different sites besides the youtube/reddit ones we have, you just need to paste the url in your post and the extension will figure out what type of media it is, otherwise you can manually use the [media] bbcode.
Re: Forum Software Upgrade
Works for me. Both of these styles look pretty good imo.
For whatever reason, for me the old board used to demand a "Confirm resubmission" click on every reload, no matter how little I'd done or where I was. That's gone with the update, so that's cool too.
Thanks and good job.

Re: Forum Software Upgrade
Having profile pics on the right is gonna throw me for a while, but everything looks great. Having things easier to upgrade in the backend can only be a good thing.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Forum Software Upgrade
I did notice some glitches on the board yesterday, like large fonts and a whole lot of errors showing. But this new look is something.

Re: Forum Software Upgrade
I think the reason phpbb moved to having the profile on the right was due to the reactive layout changes, it's one style/theme for mobile and desktop, you'll noticed when you resize your window smaller the UI changes into the mobile view where the profile disappears.Ambrose Burnside wrote: ↑14 Mar 2021 05:53 pm Having profile pics on the right is gonna throw me for a while, but everything looks great. Thanks!
On the old board I had to use a completely different theme for mobile view and use browser detection to determine if you're on mobile or not.

I haven't been to the forum for a few days... I quite like this new look. Keep up the good work to whoever here that is in charge
Re: Forum Software Upgrade
Hexagon Reborn style is gone now, replaced with Hexagon for dark theme lovers. I noticed some issues with it on mobile and I think regular Hexagon looks a bit more sensible.

Re: Forum Software Upgrade
I've always run Prosilver and it looks near-identical to previous.
Re: Forum Software Upgrade
I like the Hexagon theme, very PlayNOW-era.

Lol, that rogue white pixel, seems to be in all the animated gifs from that image set, I've cleaned em up now, so your mental wellbeing should be sorted now.

Re: Forum Software Upgrade
user control panel-> board preferences tab-> my board style drop down-> submit.
I wasn't aware people were still using tapatalk, the board works on mobile browsers so tapatalk these days is a little redundant.

Re: Forum Software Upgrade
We have profiles on the left now, looking into this it was actually just a small tweak to the CSS for the postprofile block, changing float from right to left and fixing up the borders/margins in that block. The only other thing you had to account for is the post buttons on the top right overlay the online status, just fix that with a little bit of padding, this was only an issue in prosilver/flat theme, hexagon didn't need any other changes.
Enjoy folks.

I still use Tapatalk, not now if the forum isn't going to support it anymore.
