The remakes and sequels that never happen.

Post by van »

What stops publishers from following through on sequels of all the games we loved as younger lads? Sam 'n' Max, Monkey Island, Space Quest, Day of the Tentacle, et cetera. These are all titles that have been looked into in the past 5 years and have even had sequel projects started, but they always fall apart. What's the rationale to that? These were massively popular games as you all know, so wouldn't they be a good chance of success based on nostalgia alone? Especially if it was made a priority and their best teams were put on the job.

Sigh. I just want a new Space Quest, damn it!

it isn't an old series but a few people around here are still crying for shenmue 3, but I don't think we'll ever see it.

I have no idea why other games are canned though, especially sequels to popular old games.

Well that's one out of 5, haha. Good news though :)

Man, why does everything have to be 3D? Am I the only one who misses the old school cartoon style of Sam n Max and DOTT?

i miss hand-pixelled sprites
and i have a feeling that they stopped developing it because the only people interested were those on the internet i.e. those who will pirate it anyway
and while we're on 2d vs 3d, someone go tell disney to open their 2d animation studios again

Were the Lucasarts stuff popular in terms of sales, or just pirated by everyone?

And if they were remade would it look like Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude? Cos if that's the case, I'd rather stick with the memories, thankyouverymuch.

They were massively popular in terms of sales amba.

only Grim Fandango was not a massive seller, it still did quite well... Monkey Island 4 I'm not sure about though.

If they made a new Day of the Tentacle I would buy 5 copies.

John Lasseter is going to bring about another Disney golden age. Especially now that Eisner has been deposed.

All I want is one last good 2D Disney film. I don't want that tradition to end with Home on the Range.

Do you remember when people who played the voices also did the singing parts?

It's kind of disappointing given the number of actors this generation that have the most incredible (proper) singing voices.

Fond memories of the prequel (i think) to DOTT, Maniac Mansion.

Remember having voice actors instead of movie stars? Video games are moving in that direction too- look at Yakuza.

Off the thread hijack though, Bring me HD Road Rash.
