It was fairly obvious something like this would be needed, because AFAIK the video card on the 360 simply doesn't have digital output...
But still, screws over early adopters, not cool!

Outside of increased chance at a faulty console, being an early adopter is a good thing. Nearly all the early modchips or security workarounds are going to work on a launch console
And if you think you're going to pick up a premium pack with HDMI, HD-DVD, and a game or controller for $500 or less... you're fucking crazy. That shits over a year away. Especially with PS3 coming out at $999.
