rofl...same here..i was doing a misson where i had to collect some gas from this planet that protoss were protecting...i had 1 more to collect..and all these fucking protoss rushed me down..all my men are dieing around me while the worker is almost done capping the gas...they kill off all my men and start charging down to where the worker was...he is being beat down..10 health left and i get him back to base JUST in time..

Certain screens make your hardware work pretty hard

Screens that are light on detail may make your system overheat if cooling is overall insufficient. This is because the game has nothing to do so it is primarily just working on drawing the screen very quickly.

A temporary workaround is to go to your Documents\StarCraft II Beta\variables.txt file and add these lines:

frameratecapglue=30
frameratecap=60

You may replace these numbers if you want to.

also..dont know why youre giving PC gaming shit..when you guys are playing on fucking laptops...

pro tip if your laptop is freezing up while playing SC2.. 90% of the time its due to insufficient cooling

even if you cap the max fps you should still address the issue or look into it by..

grabbing real temp (if you have an intel setup)...it will tell you the max temps your cpu and gpu are hitting. i bet you your GPU or even CPU is exceeding its thermal capacity...you can even go into real temp settings and have it log your temps..so if your laptop does freeze you can check the log file and temps..

honestly grab something like MSI Afterburner and setup a custom fan profile for your gpu because the way fans are setup to work in most laptops while gaming is frankly poor...if you need some help setting it up let me know..but dont just keep playing the game till it keeps locking up your whole system..you could be doing some real damage to it

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the games themselves. They're superb. It's just this techo junk in between me the player and the game experience. I have a one year old laptop ffs. Fixing IT tech issues is to much like being at work (well, what it used to be like anyhow).

Dragon Age Origins, I just gave up on the hassle. Starcraft 2, I'll persevere. Thanks for the tips. I'm determined to figure this out.

ATI just released new drivers for SC2 that allows the user to force AA like Nvidia..

worth getting if you got a high end card

Im having a few issues with my performance... it's a weird 1.

Specs:
Core2 quad q9650 @ 4ghz
8gig ram
1x 4870x2
1x 4870

Way above min requirements but i have serious stuttering issues and bad frames rates on certain maps. Weird thing is this can sometimes be fixed by changing the graphic option back down to high and backup to ultra...This only works for a little while as the chopperness returns randomly upon loading new map etc.

It can happen on an empty multiplayer map so i think cpu bottle neck is out of the question. Starting to piss me off as it ruining the experience!

Im guessing a crossfire issue and poor ati support?

Anyone else having troubles with ati?

my 295GTX is multi-gpu too and newest Nvidia drivers are ripping it up in sc2..

im using those drivers with my 5850 and they are running sc2 ultra at high fps...so for single GPU ati setup its fine..

Seems to be working alot better now after installing the drivers you linked.

Still a few funny things going on for e.g The lvl in the single player campian (zeratul's memories) i was in a section of the map with no zerg and anything going on and it was chugging just in that little section... wierd.

Apart from the random frames drops it runs very smooth now.

Placement was dead easy. 4-1. Even the silver league is giving me a challenge though. 1-4.

I haven't touched multi yet either. tbh I've never played multiplayer RTS before. lol.
But I've wanted to stabilize SC2 on my rig before trying multi.

I'm reasonably satisfied I have fixed my tech issues now. Two full sessions without any crashes.
It could be a result of any of these three attempts to fix it:
- Dropped all the graphics settings to the lowest. (It still looks pretty damn good though).
- Set it to Windowed-Fullscreen, which sorted out SC2 issues for a guy at work.
- After reading the below thread, a lot of people have had success with similar issues rolling back the ATI catalyst and latest drivers, so I did that.

FUCKING AMD. EVERY SINGLE FUCKING PC TECH ISSUE I'VE EVER HAD HAS BEEN DUE TO AMD SHIT. NEVER, EVER AGAIN. INTEL/NVIDIA ALL THE WAY.

What an amazing game this is. Just fantastic. My number two for the year right now after Bayonetta. Only Dead Rising 2 or Vanquish could break the deadlock.
