seriously come november you're paying 1k to be a sony beta tester, no thanks.
You're revealing your bias. 360 launch was shocking for problems and "beta testing", both for hardware and software. Launch titles weren't that amazing. But who cares? It was still great. PS3 launch is looking solid if not spectacular, much like the 360 launch. If you want to bag out certain aspects of the Sony launch, fine, but let's try and not be hypocritical hey? ;)
Out of interest, what launch PS3 games are so far confirmed? (ie good ones)

Not locked down yet though...

Like I said (I think), didn't stop me with the 360, and very glad I picked that up. I preordered it and it wasn't until a week before I decided I wanted Kameo, and on the day that I wanted Amped 3, and was VERY happy with those.

I think for the PS3 launch I want Heavenly Sword, THPS8, Resistance: FoM, Warhawk and Motorstorm. Motorstorm doesn't seem to be on that list, oddly, nor does HS. Weird. Pretty useless list really.

Anyway, I'll probably pick up 3 games on launch and a few BluRay titles, more than enough to keep me going for a few months, especially with the 360 and Wii out at the same time :)

Cheers mech.

That's actually not a bad list at all.

Resistance: Fall of Man - looks good
Fatal Inertia - no idea
Genji 2 - Capcom devs?
Call of Duty 3 - could be great
Tony Hawk's Project 8 - no idea
EA Sports Fight Night Round 3 - known quantity
Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War - like Kessen???
Madden NFL 07 - known quantity
College Hoops 2K7 - known quantity
Sonic the Hedgehog - Dreamcast engine
NBA Live 07 - known quantity
Full Auto 2: Battlelines - Burnout of Persia 2
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance - like XMen legends, isnt it?
Ridge Racer 7 - iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas - doors included
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom - could go either way
NHL 2K7 - known quantity
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 - known quantity
Need for Speed Carbon -
Warhawk - could be killer app material
flOw (PS3 Hub Download) - no fucking idea

There's potential there. A lot of safe titles, but if Warhawk, Genji and Resistance: Fall of Man hit the mark, I'd say there's a good selection from Day 1.

Those 3? :)

Was thinking Warhawk, Motorstorm and Heavenly Sword, possibly Resistance depending on how it turns out, Lair looks pretty good too. If Tony Hawk 8 is good, I'll buy that in an instant, been waiting for a good looking and playing Tony Hawk game since number 3.

Heavenly sword is definately a 2007 title, the producer of the title said so at e3. Motorstorm, last i heard it was a launch title, but depending on feedback it might be pushed into early next year.

It's not a very good one either.
Resistance: Fall of Man - looks good
Fatal Inertia - no idea
Fatal Inertia = Futuristic racer from Koei Canada that looks slightly better than Quantum Redshift.
Genji 2 - Capcom devs?
They've had some staff from Capcom head over. But here's a Game Republic history -

Genji: Dawn of the Samurai
Every Party (360)

Call of Duty 3 - could be great
Not really, no Infinity Ward = shit.
Tony Hawk's Project 8 - no idea
EA Sports Fight Night Round 3 - known quantity
Madden NFL 07 - known quantity
College Hoops 2K7 - known quantity
Sonic the Hedgehog - Dreamcast engine
NBA Live 07 - known quantity

Ridge Racer 7 - iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas - doors included
NHL 2K7 - known quantity
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 - known quantity
Need for Speed Carbon -
Wow a bunch of cross platform shit
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom - could go either way
At least it looks better.
Warhawk - could be killer app material
This is the one title that could be something, and not just because of the controller. It depends how well the on foot/in air stuff gels, and hopefully it won't be as dull as Mace Griffin.
flOw (PS3 Hub Download) - no fucking idea
There's a game called Flow: Urban Dance Uprising for PS2 thats basically DDR breakdancing, but it's from Ubisoft so I doubt it. Although it did have EyeToy support so who knows.
There's potential there. A lot of safe titles, but if Warhawk, Genji and Resistance: Fall of Man hit the mark, I'd say there's a good selection from Day 1.

I don't see Genji being anything special, and Resistance could be a good multiplayer game but looks very derivative single player. Warhawk is the only launch game to me that couldn't be done on another system and would be worth picking up a PS3 for. Unless Lair makes it for launch but then no one has seen much of it.

No Heavenly Sword makes it a very dull launch. You can complain about the 360 launch but if you look at first party only you end up with PGR3, PD0 and Kameo v. Resistance, Warhawk, Singstar and Genji. If you take in the third party exclusives (interestingly enough where are the PS3 third party launch exclusives?) like Condemned and Amped 3 it's pretty much a wash. Once again, there's a distinct lack of compelling new software on a Sony launch. I'm sure it will be there eventually but it's an annoying trend.

Don't see how. American Wasteland plays better on the 360 pad then the Xbox pad. Xbox/360 is my choice of platform for these games.

I'd rather rumble then motion sensing/tilt sensing

Someone save that for the classics forum, I want saved definitive proof that MX doesn't use the consoles he talks about :p

A game that relies that heavily on the d-pad playing better on the 360 pad, it just makes no sense man!

How do you play Tony Hawk without a dpad? Trying to do manuals with an analogue stick is horrible.

I use the dpad for Tony Hawk... its the only thing for precise moves (imagine using shitty tilt sensors for it.... ) and i dont know what all you have against Tony Hawk on the 360, i'll be buying it on 360, cos i can get it first.

Anyhow, most of the PS3 launch lineup is cross platform and will be on the 360 a few months earlier, fuck waiting 2 months and a thousand dollars later for the same freaking game without rumble.

And i also have confidence that these cross platform titles will have a better online component on the 360 too.
Dont get me wrong, i will eventually buy a PS3, but not until something screams at me to buy it (like MGS4)...oh yeah, i also think Sony can go fuck themselves with the price too.

My unbiased take -

Resistance: Fall of Man - really uninspired so far. I smell another Killzone
Fatal Inertia - Quantum Redshift 1.5
Genji 2 - MASSIVE DAMAGE. Not my sort of game.
Call of Duty 3 - superb! But isn't it also coming to 360?
Tony Hawk's Project 8 - zzzzzzzzz
EA Sports Fight Night Round 3 - Awesome, but...a bit late maybe?
Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War - Never heard of it
Madden NFL 07 - GOTY
College Hoops 2K7 - Winner
Sonic the Hedgehog - complete shit
NBA Live 07 - Worth a look, but also on 360
Full Auto 2: Battlelines - Somehow looks worse than the first game on 360
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance - I'm keen, but multiplatform
Ridge Racer 7 - Yes
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas - much of a muchness. Buy it on 360 and lay down gas grenades with Cletus, or buy it on PS3 and get team-killed by a 14 year old American. hmmmm...
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom - lol
NHL 2K7 - multiplatform
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 -multiplatform
Need for Speed Carbon - zzzzzzzz. TDU is the new NFS!
Warhawk - I like this style of game so I'm interested.

Basically there's no real gaming-related reason to buy a PS3 at launch. No Heavenly Sword, no MGS4, no VF5. No Tekken is a surprise.
Pat

Post by Pat »

Infallible logic Mr Arse.

VF5, MGS4 plus whatever gems come along the way before those two releases will be the better option.

Oh yeah - and price drop.

Uh, I never touch the dpad in TH games, trick, revert manual, 500,000+ point tricks are a breeze.

I have watched a dpad player and it just seems too impresice. Too much feathering and jabbing. The stick gives me total control, slight gestures, babying the stick. I feel more in control.

I played 3 onwards on the cube. The stick is perfect for it. It is just at the right height to quickly stick in moves.
