With Nintendo’s recent clean sweep of the Japanese top ten software chart, lets all reminisce with some quotes from Sony....
Dear Sony...It's Coming
Game Over !
"The idea of a handheld rivalry with Nintendo is an irrelevance, those formats don't appear in our planning. It's not a fair comparison; not fair on Nintendo, I should stress. That sounds arrogant, maybe, but it's the truth."
"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the DS platform is at peril as a direct result of that."
"Nintendo knows its target audience, because it has really narrowed that down; and it's pretty much defined by a boy or girl's ability to admire Pokemon."
"PSP will elevate portable entertainment out of the handheld gaming ghetto, and Sony is the only company that can do it,"

Well, we don't know.
The question is, with the success of both the DS and the PSP (hell, each of them is outselling the other 8 combined), it that taking away any potential sales of non- handheld consoles, especially in Japan? I'm not talking here about the hardcore, because they will buy regardless, but the casual who will buy a system on a whim and then 3-4 games in its lifetime. DS is selling a heck of a lot of games at the moment, and for everyone buying a DS game, they're not buying a PS2 game. Will be interesting to see whether this continues once Console Wars Part 356 starts up again.
