Just Cause

Of course, your idea of fun might not be mucking about in the sea, scooter or no scooter - but the point is, Just Cause is designed to offer loads of different options. If you like zooming around in fast cars, you can go right ahead; if you're a Pilotwings fan, you might find the parachute becomes your preferred mode of transport. If you get bored of one mission, you can just leave it for later - there are plenty of others to choose from. Of course, you'll probably want to try out the old grappling hook-helicopter trick at some point, because it's just great fun.

Which, by the looks of things, pretty much sums up Just Cause. It's all about mucking about with big guns, experimenting with your parachute and grappling hook, working out which vehicles get you where you need to be fastest, discovering exciting locations and generally exploring all the game's elements - and having a great time doing it all.

And from what we've seen so far, it all works well; there were some issues with collision and vehicle handling, and at times it seemed we were spending too much time getting from place to place and not enough in the heart of the action. But Eidos assured us we were playing an old build of the game, and that these problems have been ironed out for the finished version. So if you've had enough of gritty urban gangbangers, hyper-realistic shooters and fancy something a bit more unhinged, Just Cause looks well worth keeping an eye out for.
Looks like there's a lot of detail and size in the game.

* 32 by 32 kilometres of country to 'liberate' (bigger than Oblivion???)
* Real bades of gars (360 version)
* Random weather - incl lightning! :D
* Underwater
* Capital city alone is the size of Vice City
* 32 provinces within the country
* Dictator to overthrow
* James Bond gadgets ++
* 300 missions (21 in the prime story)
* Parachutes
* OTT action (hijack helicopters in mid air from a parachute)

There's a demo out on 360 marketplace soon and PC also(about the 24th of August).

Ive got no idea what the developer has done before, so its certainly not a proven record. They did get a nice write-up in Edge a few months ago/maybe a year ago about the engine that Just Cause is built on.

Game is released about the 29th of September. Might be worth a look depending on how the demo goes. :up:

And no, I'm not pimping it so it might succeed :D

Looks impressive so far, would be great if they can pull it off.
Pity the city they show doesnt look anything like the size you see in one of the GTA games.

Yeah, I have watched the 4 part trailer over at game trailers and it looks like a heck of a lot of fun. I'll be giving that demo a go :)

There's a little bit of city in that trailer - namely flying down a main street in an FA-18 :D

I suspect that this game will be mediocre at best. Everyone should buy Madden instead.

IGN has a 2 page hands-on preview of the game, which they seem so far impressed with.

Gamespot also have a 360 preview up.
.... Another mission, River of Blood, saw Rico tracking down the shady operations of a local terrorist group that was transporting some illicit materiel. After speeding down a river in a high-powered rocket boat, Rico discovered that the bad guys were moving tankers full of rocket fuel on a train, so the mission objective quickly became of the destroy-and-then-get-the-heck-out variety, requiring the player to grab a rocket launcher and trash the explosive tanks before the train got away. But wait! It's hard to escape the scene when attack helicopters are barreling in at you. In another great example of Just Cause's absurdly over-the-top action, the player dodged the fire of the first incoming chopper, fired the grapple at its tail fin, and pulled himself right up into the cockpit (jumping right through the whirling blades, natch) to take control of the helicopter and subsequently shoot down the other trailing helicopter.
And now there are 3 more trailers up on XBL - however I think theyre mostly footage seen in earlier vids. There was some new content, but theyre only about 10MB each for the low-res ones.

Demo should be soon too. :up:

Yeah, MDK2 was great but I had some trouble running it on my Viper II video card at the time. But I also have a canadian version of it on Dreamcast which plays great.Love that DC image quality!.Game was quite though, and I loved the cut scenes.

It looks hot.

But the last South American themed game that took on GTA and was from Atari was Total Overdose. Looked and played great but had little to no action.

I'll be trying that demo before I commit to the purchase.
