It's a bit of a mixed bag really.
Visually it's very nice but it controls like a turd.
There seems to be a lot going on across the landscape but there's no life in the pedestrians, they say nothing and they just walk away if you shoot at them or punch them...which is also hit and miss. You can hit some of them some of the time and other times, punching doesn't register.
I can't work out how to use the grappling hook either.I haven't been able to latch onto a vehicle and take a scenic route.
Weapons sound tinny but the explosions are very nice. All the vehicles seem to handle like a truck, including the motorbikes and boats.
The demo will certainly hook a few people but if you're expecting GTA like gameplay,I think you'll be somewhat let down.I might have to spend a little more time with it to make a clearer judgement, but I don't think this one's for me.

I quickly had a go of this before heading to work.
OMG this game is awesome, the world is massive and so seamless, the framerate is butter smooth. The missions are a lot of fun, combat is far more enjoyable than GTA games. Lots of different vehicles to try out, the helicopters are mad fun.
They only thing missing from the demo is a story line element, you get several missions to try out but i take it the real game has a story line you follow as well as being able to just play in your sandbox and do side missions.
Some of the controls need tweaking. For instance you can run up to a car but you need to get right next to the car door to be able to car jack it. I think the option needs to come up earlier when you are at any side of the car. Aiming and gun fighting is great, there is auto aiming, but you can easily dictate where you are facing by using the right stick in a fps aiming fashion. One thing I reckon needs to changing is aiming/camera control while using your parachute. It has this annoying auto centering of your view/aiming so it's bloody frustrating trying to shoot guys from above. The camera should be the same as it is on the ground. The whole auto centering was very disorientating imo.
Also i noticed that when in a vehicle you can go to stunt mode, but for instance say you jacked a jeep that had a machine gun mounted on the back. There is no way to use or switch to a gunner position and use that machine gun. Imo they gotta add that, it just seems like a tease having the cpu being able to use em but you can't seem too.

The thing letting the game down really are the controls, they need work/tweaking and I agree too cletus the world is massive/detailed the engine is very impressive imo. Some of the character models could be a bit more detailed and the enemies/suvlians need more character to make the world seem believable.

From my 5 minutes on the demo this morning, I would have to say no. Firefights didnt seem overly challenging, there was nothing that made me try to find cover so I was just standing in the open gunning enemies down. The controls were pretty bad and it really doesnt look good at all (the running animation on Rico looks very gay, all knees up). One thing I liked was throwing a grenada and being able to target it in midair.
I'll give it another go tonight but I dont think this will be getting much of a run for me.

It is a bit of fun, but I won't be buying it till it reaches budget. Nothing in the demo screamed must have.
Reminds me of mercenaries a fair bit.
You can use the guns on the back of vehicles. That was the first thing I did. Walk to the back of the jeep and hit Y. You are on the turret. In the liberate mission you acn sit on the turret while the AI drives.

Predicting GTA-clone will be mediocre? Brilliant!Candy Arse wrote:On the money once again.Candy Arse wrote:I suspect that this game will be mediocre at best.

The board allows you to move/split threads but not merge them. I'll look for a mod, cause it will be handy in future.pilonv1 wrote:Agreed. If I had mod powers in the Live forum I'd lock the demo announcements and merge the posts into one thread. Live forum shouldn't be for discussing game demos unless it relates to online.GreyWizzard wrote:Okay, having two threads for this is getting annoying...
