1900 points for Lumines Live?

Post by jizzlobber »

stolen from xbox zone
Looks like Lumines Live tries to get sneaky on slipping you a couple of MS Point charges. After rumors a while back that there would be a charge for multiplayer (which proved to be false later), there are extra fees when you advance far enough into the single player "Mission Mode" and "VS CPU" mode.

From a review in OXM (rating Lumines Live 8.5):
"You'll be prompted to buy the Puzzle/Mission Pack (400 MS Points extra)" once you start "getting on a roll with Mission Mode".

Also, in the VS CPU mode, when you are "knee-deep" in the VS CPU mode, "you'll be blocked by signage declaring: 'You need the VS CPU Pack (300 Points)."

So on top of the $15 (1200 MS Points) for the charge of Lumines Live game on Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA), it will cost 700 extra MS points when you advance in the game. Sounds like the first negative penatly for doing good in a game to me. Maybe it would not have been so bad if they would have released levels seperately instead of impeding gameplay? Are you more likely to buy the additional levels this way? Or is this Microsoft slipping in a few hidden fees?

We know this. We've discussed this. It sucks. Don't buy it unless you want this shit being pulled in future yada, yada, yada.

I didn't know it would be that evil. Paying further for the single player game is bullshit.

I ain't touching that title.

So that's $30.

$30 for a new Lumines isn't tooooooooooooooo bad... but still...

CPU vs mode isn't worth worrying about though.

Lumines live is going to be a fucking rort and nothing else. Playing it on a nice big telly would be ace, but I'll take playing the PSP version over paying to play every fucking mode out there.

Have a hunt in Kmart, PSP Lumines is still $15

1900 points is retarded and has got to be one of the worst numbers they could pick for a total. If you're using a prepaid card you need to blow 50 bucks to purchase enough points and you waste 1,100 of them if you don't want anything else.

They've got other packs lined up in future, like music video packs, etc.

I'm a massive lumines fanboy, so I'll be getting it.

Why didn't they simply release it in stores for the same cost? The idea of XBLA games (to me) is that they are cheap and offer something for the quick-play market. Fair enough to release extra packs over Live but this seems a bit excessive.

Being clueless about the game, do they need to release it in packs because it will total over 50MB? That doesn't excuse the pricing of course.

Would you rather pay $80 for a retail version?

A fully featured retail version with all modes intact, online play enabled, no patches or points required, plus the physical disc, box and book, might actually be better value.

Of course I wouldn't, more likely around $50 would be ideal for most. The reason I suggested this is it just seems too complicated for a lot of players who would naturally expect a fully working copy for 1200 points which simply isn't the case.

You could even have both, Halo 2 map pack proved this works quite well.

Didn't we all get bored of Lumines, like, a year ago?

The single player game is inherently flawed once you figure out the infinite combo. The first 2 minutes of the game are difficult - setting up the combo.. and then u just drop blocks as fast as you can until the score maxes out.. yawn.

Yeah u can set the blocks up so you can literally drop whatever block comes forever as fast as you can. I have a video demonstrating it on my PC at home, i'll youtube it later if you like. The score maxes out at 99,999 or something.

The setup is kind of difficult but I can get it going within 2minutes of the start of probably 70% of games.

It will completely destroy the game for you though if you see it :D

Not sure how you could fix it without adding a new block type or something.

It does mess up sometimes when u get err damn i havent played lumines in a long time but there was that shit that exploded and messed up your blocks a bit? Sometimes that can destroy your cheese machine but you can rebuild it most of the time and start going again :)

So far on the XB360, for me, it's been a case of if there is something I want, I just download it.

Lumnies Live has changed that. Now, even if I want something off Live, I'll be more critical of it's value, and view it just as I would any other game on the shelf at EB.

It's not actually me playing in the video.

I kinda figured out the strategy on the train by accident than i came home and googled around and found that guys video :)

Main thing to be careul of when doing it is dropping stuff TOO fast and messing up ur single block piles.

I didn't get what I was looking at. Please understand I have never played the game. To me it just looked like someone playing a game on the easiest setting possible.

Hahaha what abuse, seriously thats nuts (no I never found that out myself).

Grey what you just saw is somebody finding an abusable system for infinite score in what is otherwise the greatest puzzle game of all time.
