This has to be the greatest video game music of all time. Amazing stuff.
I find myself humming this tune all the fucking time. I guess it doesn't help that I'm horribly addicted to DS Tetris right now which has a different arrangement of it.

Blurs music is really, really fucking awesome, but the one that's really totally blown me away lately is Little Big Planet.

I seriously think Little Big Planet has perhaps the greatest game soundtrack ever.

Awesome thread.

How can no-one have posted this yet? DKC - Aquatic Ambience

DKC was just mind-blowing for presentation. In the Sega vs Nintendo debate for 16-bit, I don't think I can go past DKC. All of its music was just fantastic. If you can find a remix of this by Krispy... it's incredible.

Sticking with the water theme...
Sounds a bit primitive but a great tune.

And also...

Plenty of remixes of this too, but I can't seem to find one that's right for me. :(

I have to add this because I loved it...
I was going through Phantasy Star 2 about a year ago and it was a bit mindblowing to hear it play all these "memories" from PSO. As in, this track takes heaps from PS2, even the blaring random enemy encounter.

And another PSO because I can't not pay respects to Forest.
Always admired this track. Absolutely spot-on gentle feel, yet this perfect sci-fi, latent threaten vibe to it as well. Just gold, imo, and I still remember the feeling it gave me starting Forest for the first time. Just too much cool.

Also absolutely love...
NiGHTS deserves special acknowledgement due to the way the music was always changing each new play, and that it was all pretty special music. This one especially, always creates a good feeling. I'd post Frozen Bell too, but I can't find the happy mix.

I think everyone's heard enough of Icecap so I won't post it.

Thanks to the Diddy Kong Racing post... also great stuff in that game. And Thunderforce IV... that metal music was epic when you got to that point in the game. Your mates all fly in to help you, all get wasted, you alone survive and your ship gets pimped up out of nowhere for the second half of the game, then this badass music starts and the fighting resumes.

Panzer Dragoon was great for the original style it created.

More awesomeness...

Medium right! And to think I've still got this sitting at home in a box waiting.

Another one I can't not mention, the original king:

It was great hearing this when you walked into an arcade. It's a shame the Saturn version was just a little bit worse.

Finally, I apologise for posting a remix, but at least I kept it down to just the one.

Grey, did you play Diddy Kong Racing much? Were you aware of the music changing as you drove around the overworld? Probably the best example I've seen of that type of thing.

Meanwhile, another need to use the word awesome:
Some of my favourite gaming on this.

I didn't play much Diddy Kong Racing at all... it was terrible. It just wasn't a game for me.

Monkey Island 2 had the iMuse system that integrated songs into each other. Fantastic system.

here's an example
I've heard they had to do a lot of dicking around with SE to emulate iMuse due to using real orchestras.

So did anyone like the metal version of duke theme? (this must be the duke forever soundtrack?)
I like metal versions of the music.

End boss theme from Etrian odyssey III:
this one with really quick drums sounds like something from a cradle of filth song:
It's like the megadrive era never died. Yuzo koshiro hasn't lost his skill. The drums bring back memories of playing revenge of shinobi on the MD with its cool music. (this was before his techno stuff for streets of rage and the music was metalish)

Severe lack of love for this one:

Practically all the music in this game was spot on for the story and mood being presented. Such an awesome game too.

t0mby wrote:Hahah Twizted, as soon asI opened this thread I thought of Commando (Rob Hubbard is a legend) but since that's now been posted I'm posting three of my favs from him. The first was known for (at the time) it's amazing digitised sound from 4 channels. I think this was one of his las games before EA snatched him up to work in the US and he left UK.

And another fav of mine, the sequel to Crazy Comets, Mega Apocalypse. Can't find a Youtube, but there is a live stream here, just click 'Listen' in the info box.

And last but not least the amazing Thrust. (Well I think so!) There is also a very cool mp3 Metal version.

And here is my fav Last Ninja tune (Not Rob Hubbard, but Ben Daglish I think), something that I reckon would sound cool redone as a metal instrumental.
By the way, there are lots of fantastic covers for C64 game music from Press Play on Tape, and Instant Remedy on YouTube.

Great thread Grey!!!

My favourite game music of 2010, appropriately from GOTY 2010. I really like the use of silence, this track manages to instill hope and hopelessness simultaneously. I have a slight preference toward the more ethereal version that plays on the initial load screen, but it isn't on the OST so it's hard to find on YouTube.

A little too 'minimal' for my tastes but when i heard this im reminded of this. I love it when the music changes.

I was playing TvC this morning and now the theme is stuck in my head. I think you should all suffer too.
so then I wondered what the Jap release sounds like...
I prefer the english release theme song better. Although the jap intro movie is cooler.

Loving that there are some c64 tracks mentioned here.. Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Jereon Tel... Maniacs of noise... WIN. Some of you might be interested in the c64 Orchestra music that was released a few years ago... some amazing renditions of Delta, International Karate, Monty on the Run and Commando... Commando in particular is cool.. mainly for the High Score music that they do.. so pretty that I get goosebumps and teary eyed.

Yuzo Koshiro is a god. Streets of Rage 1 and 2 rock on.
Streets of Rage 2 - Level 1 Go Straight
Streets of Rage 2 Stage 8 (Main SOR theme)
Sonic CD music.. well everything from that.

Panzer Dragoon Saga music.. everything from that especially the ending music and the theme of Azel. Which they used in Panzer Orta for one of my favourite cut scenes EVAR. For anyone who played through Saga and then played Orta.. they should know why this scene is beautiful.

Three examples from Mario Galaxy as to why fully orchestrated music is a very good thing.

I've been playing a lot of TvC recently and the Oribtal Ring System Cargo Bay tune keeps getting stuck in my head. I just find it one of the catchier tunes of the game. Plus it has Spider Crabs in the stage trashing the shit out of stuff.

Oh nice one Madmya.... Loved the theme to the original tomb raider... Especially at that 1:30 mark. Takes me back to renting it out and then just keeping it for a week. Was such a fucking good game...
