Bomberman: Act Zero reviews are in

Post by Shaneus »

Alt. thread subject #1: Reasons Why "Cute" Characters Shouldn't Be Made "Mature"
Bomberman: Act Zero is nothing short of a complete rip-off, especially at full price. With only a couple of modes, no offline multiplayer, no save system, and a weak and repetitive single-player game, it has less to offer than many free demos on Xbox Live Marketplace. You can earn some achievement points by breaking a certain number of blocks, or by surviving a certain number of rounds, but it's not worth playing this game just to get the points. If Act Zero were released as an Xbox Live Arcade game for a fraction of the price, it might almost be passable. As it is, it's simply a waste of your time and money.

Come on, is anyone else really surprised? Just give me a cheaper, cuter XBLA alternative and I'll be happy.

Oh, and a reminder of what a decent remake *should* look like... Bomberman Online (DC):

yeah I hated act zero after seeing those first screens.

That shit is atrocious. Bomberman really doesnt require bloom lighting effects.

Just port SNES or Saturn Bomberman to XBLA and be done with it.

(and bomberman generations on cube was ok too).

I never played Generations on the 'cube (never even knew it existed) but hell, even the DC one was acceptable as a "next-gen" version of the franchise.

Oh, and bolded that in the first post, Pat :)

I missed the boldened bit because I was blinded by the bloom lighting in the pics :D

As for BM Generations on Cube, multiplayer had a similar cel-shaded style to the DC version shots above. Single-player was forgettable, but almost pokemon like.

Mutliplayer had the classic mode, which was all you really needed. Plus revenge mode around the sides. I love that.

So, BM gen on cube is worth getting for multi? or not quite good enuf?

And bout Act zero, they r going on about price and value but Im interested in the game so....I ask, despite having more in common with grid runner than BM visually shouldn't all that matter is that it plays like a BM game? does it actually play like a BM game?

I've been keeping an open mind about this one despite a friend of mine relentlessly bitching about it just because of the visual style change, and I'll probably check it out when it releases here.

I'll hope for a lower initial price point, otherwise it might just be an EB rental. I reckon it'll still be a blast to play online, but no offline multi kills it a bit for me, and the fact that it'll probably end up multi only in the end as I can imagine single player being something like cpu deathmatches under certain circumstances which IMO will get boring quick.

WTF? No offline multiplayer?

Man, that gets me so pissed off, that I'm tempted to buy an X360 just to boycott this game!

What the fuck posessed them to think that would be a good idea?
