Bizarre Creation’s new racer revealed, called Blur
Via French gaming magazine Joypad, it has been revealed that Bizarre Creations will be doing something a bit different for their next racing effort. That next game will be titled Blur.
Even though Blur contains your regular race to the finish-line gameplay, it will up the ante by allowing use of various weapons against opponents. The weapons will include the likes of mines and shields, which hints the game will be something like Wipeout - but on four wheels.
The game will also allow cars to get much more damaged than other racers on the market, with multiple crumple zones on all the cars that react differently to each collision. Races in the game will take place is various real life cities, including San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, London, Tokyo and more.
A huge part of the game will be multiplayer focused, with stats getting tracked via unique identity cards for each player. The option to post challenges to other players will be available too, as will normal racing sessions.
The game is set to be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 by the end of 2009.

PGR reborn as Blur

There are plenty of options if you want a racer without weapons. There are also plenty of options if you want a racer with weapons, but the vast majority of them are shit. If Blur plays like PGR with guns I think it's worth keeping an eye on. I'm glad they're not just doing the same thing over again at least.

From the pics and description it certainly looks like PGR assets with weapons and burnout sparks.
I don't know this could either be really good or absolutely woeful. It all really hangs on how well they do the combat.
Full auto is the only other similar game I think of this gen that's attempted it and they were pretty poor games.

That's about the only reason I haven't dismissed it yet.Candy Arse wrote:I'm prepared to give the benefit of the doubt simply because it's Bizarre and they've taken care of us over the years.
FARK! I've just been reminded how I haven't played a good rally game since Rallisport 2!
WHERE'S MY RALLY GAME!!!???
Flatout is kind of close, minus the handling mechanics. Pure is even closer, I'd like to see those guys have a crack at a rally game.

While we're all praising Bizarre, how many people played (and loved) The Club? At last count, it was tomby.
If the driving model is the same as PGR and there's an option to not use weapons, I'll definitely grab it. Right now, there's not a driving game that feels as good as their last racer.
Candy: Split/Second is by the guys who did Pure, yeah? That could be worth keeping an eye on, too. And the new NFS (Shift?). Could be a good year for slightly-arcadey racers

Speaking of Polyphony, check this out:
http://www.ferraricalifornia.com/webapp/feel.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It's a promotional website for the new Ferrari California, with the usual stuff like configuring one, sights and sounds and that sort of stuff. I'm going to have mine in Blu Mirabeau with Nero trim BTW. For wheels I'll take the 20" standard diamond with yellow brake callipers.
Anyway, click on "Virtual Test Drive" down near the Configurator and you get a video of it hooning around in GT5P. Ferrari must be pretty happy about the quality of car models in GT5 to do that. It includes some Nürburgring too by the look of it.

Buy the ps3 version please.marto wrote:yeah I'm interested in this. Interstate '76 anyone?
Bizarre make fun racing games that have never been terribly realistic so I don't see why this can't be a quality, fun game. I would love to have a cars-with-weapons game that actually featured a quality drive model + AAA visuals.
