Probably PC Case Gear, they're a 30 minute drive at worst from my place and I've loved their service in the past.flipswitch wrote:Where you buying from?
Eyeing off the GPU (duh), as well as an Acer 4K IPS Gsync monitor, a new CPU and - because what the hell - a big SSD drive for games.
Best part is that I kind of have to do this before tax time as per instructions from the accountant, so a few grand sunk into the work computer won't hurt

Re: GR ~ PC Hardware thread
The price is much better than anticipated, thinking about upgrading too. Might grab one from Amazon before the GST comes into effect in August. Sell the old card for 600-700.
Just need more details on 3rd party cards.

Re: GR ~ PC Hardware thread
Yep that's how I got my 1080. Which cost me $900 shipped last year, the hard part is finding it in stock, in August the govt enforces GST on all online purchases overseas, so it stops becoming viable.
The 1080ti pricing and current AUD will mean you should be able to get it under 1k delivered.

Don't do it Candy, you could buy two Xbox ones and many copies of Witcher 3 for that price.

$1200 local pricing. Pretty much the same as the 1080 when they launched here. 1080 cards go between 800-900 now so I doubt we'll see any reductions, if anything prices already dropped a while back.

Is it possible to run the XBONES in SLI so it's at least almost as good as my 780Ti from 4 years ago?Madmya wrote:Don't do it Candy, you could buy two Xbox ones and many copies of Witcher 3 for that price.

No, but it has SLY mode which is arguably the superior version.

If I'd known that the 1080ti would be that cheap I'd have held off buying a 1070. Amazing price.

Delid and you see the chip die looks like 2 dies connected like modules, ie it's doesn't seem to be a true 8 core single die.

To rub more salt into the wound NVIDIA is about to release a driver that sees big improvements in dx12 across the Pascal range. ~10%

Re: GR ~ PC Hardware thread
Looks to be issues with L3 cache and memory latency, once coherency is needed like in gaming performance takes a hit because of the split L3 cache 8mb + 8mb and 30-40ns extra read time to main memory.
Apparently there is only 22gb of bandwidth between each ccx cache.
So basically ryzen tanks once data sets get too large or threads need to share data.
Not sure why they did this, very odd.

Re: GR ~ PC Hardware thread
Well, Intel certainly seems to have the edge when it comes to single thread IPC, but it's a HUGE improvement over the previous gen. Well done to AMD for closing the gap with Intel as much as they did, and they even say they've identified areas for significant improvement for the Ryzen 2.
This is a good thing for the market. It would have been better if they could clean up with gaming as well as the content creation stuff, but still, it's pretty great. Looking forward to Intel's response.

Re: GR ~ PC Hardware thread
Been looking at more reviews and videos, Ryzen is still pretty good here, sure it isn't up the 7700k for pure draw call performance, but for an immature platform with iffy memory support and possible windows scheduler tweaks, it can catchup the 10-30% it's behind. Intel should be worried imo.
