You just have to re-adjust to the old-school save system and game mechanics. Once you do, you will never loose more than 10 minutes of gameplay again.
Seriously, the first play through should only be an exercise in learning the location of save points, drinks, weapons, and levelling up. Anyone who completes all of the Case Scenarios on their first play through seriously deserves a 1337 gamer medal.
I'm level 28 now, and just finished the main case scenarios in 72 hour mode, and unlocked overtime mode.
I can't believe the amount of bitching on teamxbox and the official xbox forums about this game. Just goes to show how n00b and weaksauce so many gamers are these days.
This game seriously reminds me so much of Ninja Gaiden in regards to difficulty and reward for persistence and effort. Just like Ninja Gaiden, it is a shame that so many gamers will miss out on the pleasures of this game because of the perceived difficulty.
And the game is really easy once you get the mini-chainsaws combined with the 3 books that give it 27 times length of use.
Click below to find out how to get them. Note. This makes the game rather easy - just be aware.

Yep the battle axe is great I always grab 2x the Katana's and 2x the Battle Axes from that store.
My feelings are the same as Sonics. I love this game but the save system kills my enthusiasm for it - unless I have a few hours to sit down and play it I won't put it in my 360. If I just want to kill some time I'd much rather play TDU. Which is a shame because it's so awesome, but so unforgiving.

I've played ALOT of games over the last few years and I can say for certain that Dead Rising tops the lot in terms of frustration that shouldn't be there.Twiztid Elf wrote:You just have to re-adjust to the old-school save system and game mechanics. The games premise and gameplay arn't all that difficult, but when you lose large chunks of playtime for seemingly no reason (this being my first play through I consider no reason to be that a random event occurs and I get WTFPWNED after just grabbing 3-4 people to rescue) it can be extremely frustrating.
Old school games with similar save systems never really played out the time + rescue mission aspect of Dead Rising, so it's not as frustrating in say Ninja Gaiden when you demolish a bunch of enemies then die to a boss, that's just straight up difficulty and can be overcome with practice.. In Dead Rising when I spend half an hour grabbing people to rescue then get owned by walking through a place I've been 10 times before because an event occurs I get frustrated, or hell if the AI fucks up and my little friends die to just normal zombies I get frustrated.
A better save system for a game that asks you to do all these rescue quests would make the game infinitely better, or leave us with this old school save system and change the game design.. Either way at times the current system can ruin what is otherwise an incredible game.
I won't give up though, the game is too great to give up on because it kicks you in the nuts now and then.
Doesn't the game end as soon as you miss one of the main case things?Twiztid Elf wrote:YSeriously, the first play through should only be an exercise in learning the location of save points, drinks, weapons, and levelling up. I don't think you're playing the game the way it's meant to be played (my opinion only).
If you are trying to do all the scenarios on your first play through, and even worse, trying to rescue all the survivors and beat the side bosses, no wonder you're getting frustrated.
I doubt it's even possible to complete everything in one play through even at level 50.

I got 50 surivivors, all cases, all bosses etc on one playthrough. Provided you keep an eye on the time bars for the major cases and do a bit of planning, use shortcuts like wonderland plaza toilet/paradise plaza toilet you shouldn't have any problems.
The save system sucks arse, but it isn't too hard to work out, even if you're escorting five or six survivors, save in a toilet while you have them, then reload if you lose one or two. Most paths back to the security room go by a save point or two, some out of the way a bit, like the gym door in al fresco.
What i'm working on now is the survival mode. There's an achievement for surviving for 7 days that i'd like to get, but it won't let you save, and 7 days game time = 14 hours real time, so the 360 would have to be left on for a few days, and I don't trust it to not overheat to shit or get a disc read error.
I think i've said before, but there's a weapon and three books you can combine which will basically mean you never need to pick up another weapon again, its below.

Well this is fucked, anyone who's played this, and played it through with killing 10 psychopaths or more, have you unlocked the punisher achievement? (killing the convicts doesn't count as 3). I've played through the game a bunch of times, killing all of them (there are 12) and the damn achievement hasn't unlocked. Whats pissing me off about it is that i've got 49 out of 50 on this thing, and need this one to finish it off. Has anyone had it unlocked, or had trouble unlocking it?

Sorry sly not up to that yet, I finished yesterday the 72hour game and unlocked overtime now. Damn what an awesome experience, the game has it's flaws but it's such a great unique title. I look forward now to replaying it and unlocking some more of the achievements.
Also can't wait for dead rising 2. Apparently its sold 940k worldwide, capcom were only hoping for 600k worldwide. So they're definitely gonna turn this into a franchise which is great, I enjoyed it far more than previous resident evil zombie games.
Capcom are on fire.
minus clover studios.

Bloody hell mate. That's a top effort.Sly R3negade wrote: i've got 49 out of 50 on this thing,
I've resigned myself to never getting the 7 day survivor, and I'm close to giving up on Hella Copter too. Any tips for Hella Copter would be most appreciated.
Sorry, I can't help you on the Psychopaths, as I haven't really tried it yet.
I figure my next play through 72 hour mode will be an Acheivement farming play through.
As for Dead Rising2, it has to be a certainty now. At first I thought an office block or office precinct would be awesome. A guy I know suggested perhaps just more world, like a whole city or something.
But it was yesterday, when strolling through my local shopping centre that it dawned on me. I want real world modelled shopping centres in DR2. Perhaps that big arse one in Canada? I'd be stoked if they did Chermside though.

Froggy, he's literally sitting on the shorcut mate . The shortcut itself is through the airconditioning ducts, jump on the sink that he's standing next to in wonderland plaza, then you should get a "Press B for Paradise Plaza", and it will transport you to the toilets in paradise plaza. (and even though he says "your on your own now", he becomes under your control to save once your in paradise plaza.

There's two ways to take down a hella copter, you either machine gun the small propellor thing on the tail, or get a sniper rifle and snipe out the pilot from the front window. I jumped up on the picnic awning thing so the zombies didn't interrupt my aiming.. Sat there for ages with the machine gun and didn't scratch it, grabbed the sniper rifle and fired blindly and took it out!
And 7 day survivor was just a waiting game, I got 3 health books that pretty much tripled my healing, then it was all about hoarding food in a corner somewhere, and healing yourself every 18 minutes or so while your doing something else, watching prison break on dvd fixed me!
Ah man, fuck this will make the game easier! lol, I tried everything but that then figured that I had missed something. No shit, I can finally save him then, thanks man!Sly R3negade wrote:Froggy, he's literally sitting on the shorcut mate . I'll try that for Hella Copter. When up on the top of the picnic awning, do the missiles and rifles fromt he hellicopter hit you up there? Wouldn't the missiles bump you off?Sly R3negade wrote:There's two ways to take down a hella copter, you either machine gun the small propellor thing on the tail, or get a sniper rifle and snipe out the pilot from the front window. With the 7 day survivor - that does sound like a good plan. Maybe the awning in Paradise Plaza? Just get OJ upstairs jump out. Chill out on the awning? What's stopping someone just sitting up there the whole time?

Survival mode has you lose one square of health every minute and a half or so, so you just can't sit in a corner somewhere. Heath and other items are drastically changed all over the level, there is no infinite orange juice in in the cafe, the supermarket is closed etc. Its all about having all three health books and using what food you have sparingly, either by picking up what is lying around, or getting it off people that you kill. (for example you find the three snipers out in leisure park, they drop a bunch of stuff that can keep you going for a day or so. You'll find that you'll end up just sitting in a corner for three hours, going back to the xbox and healing your character when you get to one bar of health left.Twiztid Elf wrote:I'll try that for Hella Copter. You are supposed to just take good photos, the arrow is just pointing to wehre you have to be to meet that guy again to show him your photos.
When you meet him again at that time you talk to him and you have tos how him your best picture in each category. If theyre good enough then you pass it

There's only one actual photo you need to take, bring up the mission on your watch and select it, and check out the description, it should say you need to take a good "Erotica" photograph and have it ready when you meet up with him again later on (when the mission bar gets to the red).. Examples of what I usedFroggy wrote:what am i meant to take photos off with the photo challenge? the arrow just spins
