I was actually disappointed in the visuals. When the critters in Viva Piñata from fifteen years ago look better than the main character here, that's a problem.

Having said that, I really liked the general style of the game. The not with the eyes was super creepy, but they really didn't explore it much.

Which gets me to the story. It has a nice enough premise, but it's really let down by the third act. Once you're out of the slum area, the story just feels rushed, especially once it gets closer to the ending. The actual ending feels more than a little tacked on.

Also, while I'm glad it's a cat as the main character, it really could have been anything. A cute rat, a possum, spiny anteater... just about anything. There really was nothing particularly "catty" about the game.

I don't really have any desire to go back and 100% it. At least it ran well, I guess... Which is more than I can say for...
Rated this 6/10 some time ago. Similar complaints, though I was definitely less impressed than you.

Wait, WTF! I was the last reply?? The first thing to follow up a year-old review of Stray is... Stray?

Yup! It's been sitting in my library for ages.. I think I was waiting for it to go on sale? I guess I enjoyed it a bit more than you but yeah I don't feel any need to go back and 100% it. at least, not for a while.

actually, that's one big point in the game's favour. It doesn't overstay its welcome at any point. Exploring the slum is interesting, but just as soon as you feel about done with it, you get moved on to the next area.

I'm up for this cat game. Looks to go a good bit darker than Stray. Made in Australia.

Starfield Xbox Series X

What a slog. A slog of fast travelling but then not being able to fast travel because I was continually just over in terms of my inventory.

I was keen for this game but fun fact - this is the first BGS game I've ever properly played.

The gun play was fun for the most part.. I like to sniper my way a lot of the time but it was frustrating as fuck when you'd zoom in and the view would put you somewhere completely not where you should be looking. I didn't bother with melee simply because it looked janky as hell.

Janky is the word for this game. Like - I get that this game engine is BGS thing but faaark it is so outdated in every sense of the word. The game kinda looks pretty but to be honest? In comparison to games like Forbidden West? Starfield looks last gen.. and not good last gen either. Just okay. And that's the hill that Starfield chooses to die on. For a games company as big and as revered as Bethseda.. this looks and plays in complete and utter mediocrity. Nothing is fantastic. Sure - it has certain interesting aspects like Ship building and outpost building and while I was curious about the ship building.. that meant I had to grind the game for money to build something interesting which meant suffering through the total meh-ness of the game itself. And that isn't even considering that in a new game+ - the place that they are ushering you towards - you lose your ship and outposts anyway so what's the fucking point?

It's like going to an art gallery with highly renowned artists where all they've done is really shitty paintings that yes - sure you can look at them.. but for all the fuss? You'd expect so much more.. but to add to that.. the paintings keep falling all the walls.

I watched the credits roll last night at around 1:45am. I have no desire at all to see how a NG+ plays right now. This game needs so much more work to make it worth my time. A large sandbox game which for all the sandy planets - it's far too shallow and has far too many cat shits of glitches to make it an enjoyable experience as a whole.

6.5 Sarah Morgans Disliking this out of 10.

After 70-odd hours I've bailed on Starfield for now. Agree it's pure mediocrity. Broken mechanics, tedious quests, terrible writing, extremely buggy. Above all for me is the game has zero flow. The constant loading screens, the way companion dialogue is queued and often delivered at a time that doesn't correspond with what's occurring in the game, quest logs that list activities with no description. Often I'd look at my quest log, wonder what 'talk to <insert NPC name>' is about, fast travel across multiple systems to visit them only for it to be some boring-arse conversation that could not be more uninteresting. That's Starfield.

I think I bailed after 5 hours.

Too much of a time sink, and life's too short to manage your inventory the way Bethesda wants you to.

I’m finding too I just find have the time and energy to play long story-driven games.

I have FFXVI and have barely played more than an hour and same with Diablo IV.
