Anyone going to import a PS3 from Japan or US?

Post by pubba »

Hi team!

So the PS3 eh? What an awesome piece of kit :)

Wasnt so impressed until the recent TGS showing - but now I want one!

Reality time : Japan only gets 100 thousand units.. And there are like 60 million rabid Sony fanboy gamers in that country..

So what do you think my chances are of getting one at launch? I will be going to Taiwan on the 10th of November, and PS3 Japan launch is on the 11th.. If I can get a stopover in Japan on the way to Taiwan do you think it would be possible to simply rock up to Akihabara and camp out in front of one of the gaming megastores?

If anything, it would be a fun experience.. At worst it would end up a total disaster with me out of pocket a couple of hundred bucks for the extra travel..

On the other side, I could start my 3 week Taiwan holiday with a shiny new PS3 to play with :D

Um.. PS3 is confirmed region free right?

I have been stoked with my JAP 360 since I imported one. Hopefully a Jap PS3 would give me just as much (if not more) joy :)

I guess the chances of getting one from USA is better because they have more launch units.. But the fact that I will be just a couple hours away from Japan for 3 weeks in launch month is just too damn tempting!

Any Japan Games Ranchers here? BTW has anyone heard from Grey yet??

I'm in Japan a week after it launches, and in the US 3 weeks after it launches, I'm tempted to get my brother in the US grab me a PS3, but meh, too much hassle. :)

Import???? BAHAHAHAHA.

Unless you mean off Ebay, it won't happen. This thing is going to have riots in order to get to it with 500,000 at launch.

Seriously.

PS3 + Japan + 100,000 units = MASSIVE RIOTS.

Those Japs are going to kill each other. All 500,000 units would move no worries in Japan.

If Vision is willing to risk it, he can grab me one too

Vision attending riots in the US? Things could get ugly.

And on-topic - I'll be getting a US PS3. Eventually, that is. Supply, price, and build-quality all needs to be suitable before I pick one up. (same goes for Wii60 as well)

Me and my brother will try to get a US one, but it will be hard.

We managed to get a US 360 and I'm pretty sure they launched with less than 400k (well, wern't supposed to, but shit seemed to get all messed up with the 360 launch..) but I think PS3 will be in significantly more demand.

Really want a launch game list at this point though.

20 gig Japan ver for $880 AUD - seller has 20 preordered and confirmed. Good deal?

This is from the guy I got my Jap 360 from, he has over 3000 positive feedback pts and will even meet me in person when he goes to Taiwan mid November...

Temptation... rising...!

I asked him how he can guarantee to have 20 units at launch and he replied that originally he ordered 200 :P 20 is all they can promise him..

Its $630 AUD for the 20 gig version or just over 800 bucks for the 60 gig version.

This seems too good to be true so I am paying a deposit (about $100 bucks) and pay the rest when I see the unit working and in one piece. He has a shop in Taipei so should not be a problem..

According to him, Japan is getting WAY more than 100 thousand units...

Wii preorders have blitzed ps3 preorders in both Japan and Taiwan/China so things are looking good for Nintendo :)
