Think I might get in on this. Deef, how do the invites work? Is it simply a unique URL or do I need to give you an email address? PM me.

Eve Buddy Program allows players to email 21 day invites to friends. If the friend subsequently subscribes the inviting account is credited 30 days. Link below reiterates that just said. Deef can invite you as I have PLEX coming out of my feminine arse.
https://secure.eveonline.com/Marketing/Buddy/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Get on board, Hercy.

Re: My annual thread about Eve Online. Now with pew pew.
Emailed you an invite, but read my PM as well. With Pepp's help you can get a free subscription. This of course is if Pepp feels comfortable in lending out his spare PLEX heh.
And, repeating my PM, if you plan on spending the whole 3 weeks to decide you really should use an invite from Pepp instead because my account that invited you only has about 2 weeks left. I'm in the middle of a change over. If you leave subscribing until after that 2 weeks, the PLEX trick would not be available.
(Pepp, it's worth you sending an invite to Hercy regardless of whether he uses it or not.)

I'm happy to just activate my account by buying a PLEX in the next few days and you can have the bonus one. If it weren't for this thread I wouldn't have gotten around to downloading this game like I've been meaning to for ages.
Re: My annual thread about Eve Online. Now with pew pew.
Lol, a CCP rep posted an apology this morning. 180 pages in the thread so far and two thousand people flew their ships to Jita for some kind of protest. I'm on my way there for the lols (and slightly for the protest but NeX prices don't bother me).
I like that 2000 players can all rock up in their ships in one place, just because they're in a bit of a stink heh. It's not just the networking logistics, it's that there is physical virtual space to do it.
Ahh dammit, podded. Lol.
Edit - Annnnd the main trading hub of the game is now closed. All stargates to Jita are down. Nice. I didn't get there in time to see though.
Edit 2 - Lol, one of the connecting gates, Perimeter, had 630 ships on the gate. Yes it brought my laptop to its absolute knees. And someone from Red was there, so he killed me >_<. But not podded... I'm following this lolprotest to Amarr hehe.
Edit 3 - Haha 1200 in Amarr and a live feed. I'M LIVE ON TEH INTERWEBZ!
Edit 4 - Amarr just got closed and a CCP just tweeted they'll have a response posted in an hour. Lawl.

I don't use Steam, only installed it for the deal then play in a normal Eve client. How is it useful though?

Can see if you're online playing before I decide to login to Eve.

Re: My annual thread about Eve Online. Now with pew pew.
Ah. Lol, that can be taken 2 ways.
Hercy, just in case you're thinking of heavy involvement in fleet PvP you might want to consider re-rolling for a different name. If "Bette" is in a fleet comprised of similar ships, she'll be guaranteed primary before other players with names that are more difficult to pronounce, and failing that, names lower in alphabetical order. (Fleet overviews are typically ordered alphabetically because the usual ordering - distance - changes crazily in some fleet battles. From that, a name starting with B is guaranteed to be very visible to enemy FC.)
On a more general and related note, for fleet PvP the Rifter is not your friend. It's a great PvP frig, the best PvP frig, and for this reason it will be killed first every time, unless there's another Rifter in your fleet hopefully piloted by someone called Bette. Rifters are good for multiple-Rifter fleet PvP, solo Tech 1 frigate PvP, or frigate PvE.
Sole Rifter in a fleet, easy name, high alphabetical order name = 19 of 20 battles you're lucky to last more than 15 seconds.

Re: My annual thread about Eve Online. Now with pew pew.
Hmmm, sounds like I am going about this game in the wrong way then. I'm just doing the default missions after the training, can't remember what class they are but they aren't too exciting atm.
Oh and another thing, when I queue up my skills, are they still counting down when I log off? If I chose one that took 2hrs and I came back 3hrs later would it be completed?

Re: My annual thread about Eve Online. Now with pew pew.
Yes skills train while offline, they just train all the time. You have to adjust to the perspective that grind does not equal grow. The important thing to highlight in the example you just asked is the time wasted in that example.
If you put a 2 hour skill on to train and come back 3 hours later, yes it will be completed but then an hour went by with no skills training. The skill queue is all about that, allowing you to queue up 24hrs worth. If you're not going to play the game for a few days you can simply put a huge skill in the queue; there are always long skills you will soon need that can do this.
And yeah Eve is about playing with others. The opening missions are good for showing you the ropes and I think it's worth completing them - at least the 2 sets of combat missions imo - but indeed you need to find what part of the game interests you and then join a corp that caters to that. Or just mooch around with other ranchers heh, if we get enough numbers. Or even just do missions with mates. I would have certainly enjoyed having another frigate to help with with those last two level 2s I took on. Roaming lowsec with a fleet of mates is quite fun even though it's 90% no action, only stress lol. It would be good if we had more ranchers for this because there is a tonne for us to learn about it and it'd be good starting from the beginning. We'd get pwned many times.
If you think you're interested in a kind of straight down the line PvP environment, Red vs Blue is something I recommend. However it requires enough ISK to keep buying new ships, a readiness to keep losing your ship, and the acceptance that for quite a while you're going to be one of the tacklers and not much else. RvB battles can take ages to get going sometimes too.
