We've spoken about the negatives already mech, I'm not dismissing them. There are pros and cons to every approach. It's just exciting because a lot of this tech has been spoken about, but finally we are seeing it in practice in real games, not tech demos, that's what i'm excited about.
Here are some screens.
At this stage it's probably the biggest benefit for live arcade games because they have some crazy space limitations. I know epic are very keen on procedural texturing, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them better integrate it into the unreal engine, like they have with speed tree etc.

those textures were dismal lestat
if they were anything other than procedural i would be VERY dissapointed
the hype and how completely you've bought into this is disgusting - these claims are as stupid as anything sony's said in the past

My personal take on this whole thing is it's a god send for the ridiculous size restrictions MS have to use cos they fucked up and splintered the userbase.
Really cutting edge amazing stuff to have textures not look like shit and fit under 50MB.
However as shown in the psat with the technology it generally isn't a good fit for most games because it lacks the unique look you get from an artists texture..
Unless there have been huge advances in designing these procedural textures that I am unaware of it's still a useless tech for _most_ retail games.

Oh, you were one of thems kids, eh Pat? Weren't allowed to have the C-64, eh? Bravely stuck up for the VZ in the playground? Explains a lot.Pat wrote:Who said anything about C64? Rubber keyboards and Dick Smith VZ200 FTW.
Kids like you had the ST, not the Amiga, and never recovered.
