Re: Official trailer for PHANTASY STAR ONLINE II (PC)
Finally a sequel. I miss PSO on DC. Can't believe it has been 10 years since the last title.
I enjoyed PS zero on DS despite the tiny little areas heh.
If diablo 3 comes out soon then I don't know if this game is going to be able to survive against it.
The graphics look like the same thing we had on DC 10 years ago. But it could just be because of the art style.
What is the hacking and cheating history like for these games? Do they completely screw up the experience? Online gaming isn't my biggest thing, but I don't mind hack n slash type games like PSO, diablo monster hunter, etc where you are not devoting entire life to the single thing to a point where you exclude every other game out. If there is cheating all the time I won't be interested.

I hope its actually PSO and not like an evolution of PSU. That game sucked big time.
Re: Official trailer for PHANTASY STAR ONLINE II (PC)
Lol @ titty focus.
I would've though we already had a thread, eh, should've. Anyway I think it looks good so far but every change worries me basically. I'm tired of sequels that drop the core of what made the original.
But it won't be PSO without half the items being stupidly easy to find, and half the items being bullsh**ishly impossible to find. (And then it's a 1 slot.)

Re: Official trailer for PHANTASY STAR ONLINE II (PC)
The trailer looks pretty good, though I'm still confused as to why this remains PC only. This game is begging for a PS3 version at least.
Ekin: From what I know it's more PSO than PSU. But it has elements of both. PSU is something that improved quite a bit in its later versions which at least shows they are aware of several of the mistakes they made with PSU.
Deef: Oh don't you start! Haha. Some would say they're tired of sequels that rely only on the core of previous titles. But either way, this looks close enough to the original PSO as it can be without being a lazy rehash. At the very least I'm glad the old class/race system is back. I never was fond of the PSU model.

Oh one thing I am unhappy about is they seem to have retained the visual chat thing from PSU. The face caption or whatever. I miss the old PSO symbol chat thing. Well, mostly, I don't miss Sculli's spam. =P

Will the larger breasts effect the collision detection when a monster attacks you physically?
I bet this game gets banned in australia if you make the breasts too small.

oh man look at the size of the party you can ha... adjusting breast size! SOLD!
Re: Official trailer for PHANTASY STAR ONLINE II (PC)
Aw yeah symbol chat was great... that should return.
I read though that the class system is indeed different; that you don't level your character but rather the class you're training at the time, ie, you can switch classes with 1 character. I think I'd prefer just keeping that simple like in PSO as well.
There is another video with a fair chunk of gameplay floating around; I'm too lazy to do anything these days. The cast characters could hover instead of run... it actually didn't look very good.
I only played PSU offline (yarrrr) but there were definitely parts of it I liked more than PSO. I missed out on seeing what all the problems with it were. The combat in particular felt like a a nice change in some areas, but not all.
Dunno. The first PSO2 trailer was very PSO-ish but I won't be surprised if PSO2 is as different to PSO as PSU was.

Re: Official trailer for PHANTASY STAR ONLINE II (PC)
Yeah I'm not exactly sold on it yet. I'll wait till I see some more interesting environments art wise.
In PSO the caves were some of the best looking environments (hello, caves 2). Just had this completely original feel that I see hard to get back.
A lot of the magic is going to have to come from the sound fx and the music in this. And yes, mags would be nice.
The character creation seems weird to me - that people can create huge heads with disproportioned bodies.
Not a fan of the huge goddamn speech bubbles with character heads in them.
Ultimately I'm interested to see how this turns out, but know I probably won't pick it up since my PC couldn't handle it anyway.

Build yourself a new rig. You could put something pretty powerful together for around $800-900 at the moment.
Re: Official trailer for PHANTASY STAR ONLINE II (PC)
I agree with your thoughts about character creation Sculli. Regarding the music, the first teaser they released a while back seemed to have it nailed. Felt exactly right, but I dunno about what we've heard since then.
Some parts looked very Caves 1-ish. Enemies coming out of the lava is a nice touch, but it makes me wonder if we're just going to see the 2011 equivalent of Forest, Caves, Mines, and Ruins.

Big heads and small bodies means you can create awesome chibi characters. I see no issue.
Also I want a Megadrive Mag.

Re: Official trailer for PHANTASY STAR ONLINE II (PC)
So can you make a fat chick with a huge butt in this?
One thing that pso needs is the ability to have your body change over time similar to mags evolving.
So that you might be skinny at first and then you get stronger looking body over time whenever you level up a skill related to using strength.
I think elder scrolls games need this too. I would like to play as a fat guyh and then the more I run around the fitter I look as I move a lot. But if I stand around and just use the horse I can't jump and run as quickly.
You could still choose type of body but that would only be the basic shape. The shape would then evolve from that base as you do activities that require skills whose level is better when your body alters to suit the use of the skill. For example if you block a lot for instance your forearm are beefy and developed compared to when you started.

I need to see somebody going through a telepipe.
At least all the sound effects are still great.

Re: Official trailer for PHANTASY STAR ONLINE II (PC)
There were no telepipes in PSU so I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't in PSO2.
From the videos, looking good, though in one of them the player seemed to be making the most of the forward dash for faster movement I think which looked a little odd. Either way so far most of it is looking up to scratch. I see elements of both PSO and PSU in those videos, which seems to be working out well.
