Wonder if it's an early release for PSN+? Checking now. So hyped.

Edit: No.

There's a handful of animals that need to be purchased from the PS Store as DLC, but most of the cool ones are unlockable in the main game.
I'll be getting this game on day 1, and I'll probably pick up DLC for it, too. In Japan, the DLC animals are 100 yen each. Hopefully they'll be similarly priced here.

In Japan, it was. In the western territories, they've recognised that the game would not sell nearly as well as a full priced retail release.

I'd laugh if it sold gangbusters. Actually I wouldn't, I'd be too busy enjoying the game.

Anywhere have psn points for sale?

Didn't think about this. Maybe I'll just leave my PS3 off as it has been for the last 18 months.

GOTY.

Bought the US version as it was $14.95 and I already had US PS$. 2.5gb file.
First animal pack is already up - 4 extra animals for $2.50. Almost bought that, too.

So far I've played through the tutorial, and had three attempts at the Pomeranian - only lasted a few years the first 2 attempts, but on 3rd go I survived 30+ years.
Next attempt I'll try a grazer, I imagine it'll be very different.

On one of my plays I found a "Hero Mask", and I now have enough points to buy it from the store - but I have no idea what that actually does? Didn't want to drop all my points on an item that is maybe only a one-time use...
I guess I have to boot up the game's manual or something.

Wow did you actually get scammed and have purchases made on your card or something?

It was in the back of my mind when Sony revealed that cards had been compromised, but I've had my card skimmed before and the replacement was in the mail and charges reversed before I even knew about it.

I don't know if my card was compromised, but I received the email from Sony suggesting I change me details. I just felt safer changing my card and not putting it back up there.

Was playing this in 2 player local with a mate, and what a gem of a game it is!... i knew i wanted this game from the moment i first saw it, so glad i waited for the english version though..

It's pretty hard.. havent unlocked any new animals yet, but i downloaded the fat cat, silky and two other pommies..

The graphics arent as bad as some people make out, its def not ps2 quality, but its not cutting edge either..

Have been playing this like crazy over the last few days. Still absolutely loving it. Just completed the Story Mode, and have unlocked about half of the animals.

A quick non-spoiler tip for those of you playing and wanting to unlock everything: Save your points as much as possible.
You'll notice that in the character select menu there are two ? symbols with the description "Story mode blah blah". These two chars become available for purchase one you complete the story mode, and they cost a HUGE amount to purchase. One is 750,000 points, the other is 500,000.

I've bought a bunch of the alternate colours for some of the animals I've unlocked, and am now regretting it - if I hadn't, I'd be able to afford one of the two characters now.
So I recommend that, for example, when you progress to the point in Survival where the Cat is unlocked, do not be tempted to spend your "excess" points on the re-skins.

Thanks for the tip, Seraph!

I too am loving this game. Far more than I thought I would, too. I figured it'd only be good for a bit of novelty value (murderous Pomeranians) but there's something that keeps me coming back. Kind of feels like a Kairosoft game in some respects, for some reason.

New record for me - 142 years!
I think Panther/Cheetah are the top-tier animals in this game. They have the highest speed of any predator, and speed is seemingly the only stat you can't raise by completing challenges (and therefore the most valuable).

The game has evolved for me over the last 4 or so days, as two things have coincided.
1) I've completed all the missions that unlock new animals, and
2) I've turned a corner in terms of understanding the game mechanics and how to play.

These two things have changed the game in a big way for me. Instead of pushing to complete the "unlock new animal" challenge around year 15 or so (1 year is 1 minute gameplay), and ultimately dying by year (minute) 40 because I hit a skill/knowledge barrier, my games are now becoming much longer affairs. My last 3 games have gone over 60 years, including an epic 142 year run as the Panther last night.

In other news, we're getting the next round of DLC this week. A much better selection for round 2 - Crocodile, Giraffe, and Panda.

Got this yesterday and actually played it - first game I've played since becoming a dad :D

Unfortunately I only had time to play through the tutorial, it does look absolutely bonkers though and surprisingly playable (i.e. non-obtuse) for a japanese game.

$12 is a great price too (PS+ price).

PS+ is amazing btw... I logged on yesterday and couldn't believe how many (good!) free games I had available to me. I played through Infamous 2 a few months ago and loved it. Still got Saints Row and a few other full titles to play through, and have been enjoying the discounts for things like Soundshapes.

The new DLC is up on the US marketplace, and I assume will hit EU/AU shortly.

There are 4 new characters available: Kangaroo, Giraffe, Panda Bear and Crocodile. Available as a bundle ~$2.50 or individually ~$1.
There are also 3 new costumes (equipment that can be worn on the "body" slot). Some weird thing from Patapon, a mannequin from Echocrome, and some 8-bit looking evil purple guy (Badman, from the "What Did I Do To Deserve This?" game series).

As usual, the DLC costumes have infinite durability. I personally think the Patapon is the best of the new ones as it adds 10 Hunger, which is very handy for some of the bigger animals.

More DLC hits this week. Source: US Playstation Blogcast.

Known: multiple characters being released (comment in Blogcast was "even more Tokyo Jungle characters". Only one is mentioned by name in the announcement, however it is the

Salary Man
, and it was the last character released in Japan.

What can be assumed based on twitter comments from the devs and previous patterns:

Animal Bundle 3 will be released at ~$2.50, and will contain four characters: Sabre-Tooth Tiger, and the three "?" icons on the character select screen. (
ERC-X, Homo-Erectus, and Salary Man
). Alternately, the 4 characters will be available individually for ~$1.00 each.

Based on playing the game and having to fight against the Sabre-Tooth Tiger, I think it will be a very powerful predator, with decent speed. However, it's reportedly a size 5 animal, which means it won't be able to use the Sewers or Yoyogi Under. However, as that is the second largest size in the game, and the animal is a carnivore, it will be able to clean kill everything in the game. It also has an item unlock in its list of challenges: the Rosary. It's a great item for the neck - adding 10 ATK and 20 Hunger, equippable by any carnivore other than the lion.

I won't bother trying to discuss how the others will probably play, as its too spoilerific. However, they should be a lot of fun.

I might just be retarded, but after playing through the tutorial mode, you can't play another story level, and survival mode seems to be randomly generated, resulting in a whole bunch of territory with no animals in it, and dead ends? Someone explain to me what I'm supposed to do next, sorry for being such a spaz.

You play challenge mode or whatever (I can't remember the exact structure) and find VHS tapes or floppy disks or something. They unlock story mode.
