I hate to tell you Rocco, but no one gives a shit about edge anymore.

It's all about metacritic, which is sitting at 77 now.

That's lower than injustice and tekken right now and tied with SF5 and that had a botched launch.

Yep - ARMS' biggest claim to fame is that it's the Metacritic equal of the worst-launched fighting game in history. A game that was so reviled upon launch that people deliberately low-balled review scores to send Capcom a message.

Congrats ARMS! :fight:

I'm a massive sucker for turn-based tactical games, with Mario XCOM I think my threshold for purchase has been risen from 200 to 250 dollerydoos. They even blatantly copy/pasted XCOM's Overwatch function.

I like how you dickheads keep throwing out low-ball bargain bin dollar amounts as to how much you're willing to spend on a Switch (almost as if Nintendo should be honored that you're willing to purchase a Nintendo gaming system). :wanker:

As if Nintendo gives a fuck whether you wankers purchase a Switch or not, when the Switch is a global phenomenon - flying off the shelves and selling out in the world's largest gaming markets (e.g. America, Japan). Poor Nintendo can't even produce enough Switch units fast enough as they keep selling out! :P

Unlike you fools, I on the other hand get to enjoy The Legend of Zelda: BOTW, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, Splatoon 2, Pokken Tournament DX, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Warriors, Yoshi, Metroid Prime 4, Kirby, Pikmin 4, Pokemon... :D

Four months from now, I look forward to you lot still negotiating with yourselves as to how much you're willing to spend on a Nintendo Switch, whilst i'm playing the incredible Super Mario Odyssey!

So incredible Eurogamer has it as the 5th best game at E3 and not even the best Mario game

Oh look... actual game developers were asked to name their E3 2017 Game Of The Show...and of course Super Mario Odyssey won!
Developer's Game of the Show: Super Mario Odyssey

We spoke to a wide range of developers to find out what their single favourite game of E3 2017 was. It was close between Mario + Rabbids and Super Mario Odyssey, but Nintendo's Switch exclusive secured the most votes.

Simply put, Odyssey looks superb, in much the same way that Zelda did at E3 last year. We played both E3 demos, including an exploration of New Donk City and a desert-themed platforming challenge. Both were excellent, but the platforming demo - complete with Mario morphing into his 2D iteration - was our favourite by far
Super Mario Odyssey also won The Hype Award...
The Hype Award: Super Mario Odyssey

Look at all the metrics, and you can see which game generated the most excitement and noise at E3 this year. Based on Facebook posts from the show floor, Super Mario Odyssey was comfortably the No.1 game of the week. Press coverage has been unanimously positive, with the BBC stating that it "caps Nintendo's triumphant comeback." After Nintendo's last major adventure, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the anticipation for this one is extremely high.
Lastly, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was awarded the One To Watch Award, and Ubisoft was awarded Best Publisher...
One To Watch: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

This prize is for a game (or product) that is announced at the show that's a bit of an unknown, but may prove to be a breakout hit.

You could legitimately argue that Mario + Rabbids is hardly an unknown, what with it using two of the industry's most established kids brands. However, an XCOM-esque turn-based combat game set in the Mushroom Kingdom? This is as unusual as it gets. The game's concept leaked before the show and was subject to some negativity among fans of Mario and Rabbids, but once it was revealed those doubts soon vanished. We loved what we played, and with a great score and unusual gameplay this might prove to be one of the big Switch games of the year. It's also coming out very soon: August 29th.
Best Publisher: Ubisoft

This was the easiest prize of them all. Ubisoft ticked every box going and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle in particular is excellent.

It was supposed to be Microsoft's year, but E3 2017 was a triumph for Yves Guillemot and his team.

Is that $250 for the Switch itself or $250 including Mario XCOM?

I'd pay $250 for a Switch including Mario XCOM!

$250 for a Switch with no games is a complete ripoff.

Candy Arse, why must you LIE?

Eurogamer named their five best games of E3 (with both Super Mario Odyssey and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle making the top five)...and listed them in no particular order as the five games were not ranked.
As we did last year, we're taking a simple approach to naming our picks of the show: five games, no more, no less, receive our E3 2017 Editors' Choice award. They are not ranked, not divided by genre, and not separated by any other category of achievement.

Wow awesome damage control Jasper! Simple fact is, it's 5th in the list. Still a wonderful achievement being 5th behind such heavy hitters as Ubisoft's Mario Game, Wolfenstein etc.

Same with the YouTube statistics. Being the 6th most watched E3 trailer is fantastic! Trailing behind long-term success stories like Need for Speed, God of War etc is nothing to be ashamed of!

Go Nintendo!

I agree....GO NINTENDO!!!

This was Microsoft's year to shine, and yet Nintendo stole their thunder!
VentureBeat: Nintendo Switch generated more positive E3 reactions than Xbox One X

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is always a battle for attention, and it looks like Nintendo won it, according to a couple of reports that analyzed social media during the biggest U.S. gaming show.

One of the biggest battles this year was between Microsoft’s newest console, Xbox One X (debuting November 7 for $500), and the Nintendo Switch, which came out in March. And Nintendo came out on top, according to an analysis by social media data analytics firm Taykey. Facebook also released data today that was favorable to Nintendo.

Gamers were eager to hear which of their favorite games would be released on both consoles. Taykey dug into its data to determine which brands and announcements were best able to leverage E3.

The sheer amount of online conversation volume that Nintendo’s press conference generated was 108 percent more than Xbox.

I think with these numbers we can safely say Sony won E3, followed by Nintendo and then Microsoft!

Actually we are moving away from metacritic and more into the use of words to describe whether a game is worth owning.

What happened is when companies like Obsidian didn't get the 85 and up score it cost them bonus and so all the good review sites have decided to go on a 1-4 scale.

And it actualy works.

Eurogamer ditched the 1-10 rating for a 1-4 rating and this forces people to read the text and not the numbers which is a big problem of the reviews of old days when you would see a number and regardless of whether you cared about the text you could just value the game for the overall score.

This system is good if you just want a quick reference to see which games were worth checking out in the year, but many games that get low score might have things in them worth seeing just to see the bits in them that the game got right. (eg SF5 core was good at launch but it lost points because it was rushed, not because the core was bad. Not reading the review text you might think the quality of the game itself was bad when really the only reason it scored low was because of Sony rushing it out EA-style when they would have easily got a better metacritic score if they polished it and delayed)

The future is good reviews by critics who played the full game and paid with their own money to get their hands on a retail copy of the game, and are funded with money by fans of the critic. (not funded by the advertisers who will try to control the final score like they did with Jeff Gerstmann when he worked at gamespot to help increase sales of the game rather than care about the honesty and integrity of the reviewing)

Everyone has different tastes and opinions about what is "good". Once you find out what taste a reviewer has and it matches your own, you can more-accurately judge how good something is based on past experience with that reviewer. When reviews became too commercial and less personal, that is when we started to see yearly COD games getting 10 and 9 from ign while Wolfenstein (which had great campaign) get ignored and under-rated by the established press.. Wolfenstein getting 6 from eurogamer)

The hardcore gaming community is much more cynical and intelligent than in the past now so you can't get away with hype generated through high scores. You actually have to explain in detail why you like it so much compared to other titles and this is a good thing because it means the game with the biggest advertising budget don't have massive advantage over the little unknown guys who work their arses off on making good game with shoestring budget, but who polish the crap out of it through passion for the project.

Youtube has changed everything and the old free review websites are dying out in favour of Patreon donations to people who get paid by their subscribers on youtube. (this is probably why Bethesda now refuses to let reviews come out earlier than release date to give the amateur review community time to counter the negative reviews from the mainstream websites so that they can even the playing field if the mainstream press try to bully them into handing over moneyhats in exchange for a high score lol )

The old model was the readers get a free review at the expense of corruption.
The new model is honest guys who play games in depth are handed money to fund the review by devoted subscribers which takes longer to come out, but which are more high quality in-depth analysis about the game. This is more suitable for those who don't care if the critic gets the review out earlier than the mainstream press but instead wishes for an ad-free, no bullshit, and in-depth dissection about a game and why it fails/succeeds. These take longer but over long time they are great if you are late to the party and won't buy the game on launch anyway. (you generate views over long period of time as trust builds up)

ACG on youtube has a similar system to eurogamer now and this is the new trend so as not to make reviews a stat-heavy dick measuring contest and to make the readership more intelligent by forcing them to listen to what is actually said in the critic's judgement of the game. I think it's more honest and if it can protect companies like Obsidian losing money just because they didn't reach 85% metacritic rating, then I am all for it. Part of what makes a game good is also how you "FEEL" which is something unique to each person. If you like a crap game, but can read the text about what that crap game got right and forgive the faults of the crap game because you have lower standards than the critics, at least you will get detailed description through words than mere number at the bottom. This is what the game community seems to prefer over metacritic.

Metacritic may not work well for games that get updated a lot like Diablo 3 which got bad reviews on the launch, but over time was improved later. So we can't look to metacritic as gospel anymore. The world and the technology has changed since the old console days when a game that was released couldn't get patched and fixed up due to the limits of the hardware not having features to bolt on the bug fixes, balance adjustments, and content additions which is going to change how you feel playing it over the long period. When you first played Splatoon, you were playing the version that had locked stuff away from you. When you play SF5 now, it's not the same as the version which came without arcade mode etc.. Same logic needs to apply to ARMs which is going to change as time goes on. But the core can be judged by playing it yourself. (in the context of competitive games, a title might actually get LESS fun if the new additions ruin things like balance which is worth noting. But either way, the metacritic score isn't accurate to the current time, only for when the game launched. And as you can see with the low score SF5 got on metacritic, it hurt SF5 sales because the casual guy who just looks at metacritic averages to guide his purchasing decisions will just see a poor overall score and skim through the list of games that year by only looking at numbers, not the reasons they got the numbers)

X-com 2 Creative Director has no problem with nintendo/Ubisoft cloning the series:
If he has a problem with it, nintendo should just tell him it's ok for him to clone Fire Emblem if he wants to. :P There is enough room to support two similar series. It's not like third parties care about nintendo platforms right Candy? May as well allow nintendo to just copy third party games and steal all the profit for themselves for the good ideas, rather than encourage third party developers to port stuff lol

Next up:

Nintendo partners with Sega to make a microsoft minecraft clone so MS can't use their platform to make profits from which goes toward competing with nintendo through the Xbox platform.
Square-enix have one already in the form of Dragon Quest Builders. Hurry up nintendo: clone microsoft minecraft! Get the kiddies to worship nintendo branded versions of microsoft properties and rake in the easy money already..

Last week's top spot was taken by a resurgent Horizon: Zero Dawn, which had its price cut in sales.
price cut? Just saying...

Hopefully nintendo put in a tentacled monster in ARMs as a character. I want to see ribbon girl grappled by it. I am sick to death of fighting games not having monsters or aliens in them. Only Tekken seems to care about Godzilla type creatures and it's not innovative to just fight humanoids.

Please put in a tentacled monster nintendo. You have a pornstar character, a cheerleader, but you are missing monster with tentacles and loli character.
People who play fighters are older audiences. This is the group that will buy it. If you don't get onto pornhub with your characters getting their own pornos in CG then you have failed to reach your target.

Look at how Overwatch turned out. It wouldn't even be known if it wasn't for pornhub.
Get smarter..

Your goal is to make something equivalent to the Overwatch Butt controversy or the Dragon's Crown boob controversy to create enough buzz to make people notice the game more. You got to hire feminists to get offended if need be otherwise people will forget about ARMs.

The guys who made Dragon's Crown would never have gotten known if not for the feminists who helped them reach critical mass thanks to their whining.

Rest assured: 'World' is the next 'main' 'Monster Hunter' game

http://www.glixel.com/interviews/monste ... ns-w488101" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
How do you view the relationship between Monster Hunter: World and the other Monster Hunter games? Is this a spinoff, or a main title?
Ryozo Tsujimoto: This is the next main Monster Hunter game. Our Osaka team is working on it. We've brought in some people who are more familiar with next-gen technology to come in and help us adapt it for the current generation of consoles. When you have a series that runs into the higher numbers, I think the numbers themselves start to become off-putting. New players might think, "Oh, I've missed four games already, I can't possibly join at this point." Just because we've taken the number off the title doesn't mean it's not a main Monster Hunter game. We just wanted to have "world" in the title because it speaks to the concept of the game in a variety of ways. This is the first simultaneous worldwide release for the game, and the servers are global this time.
Never had a single interest in a Monster Hunter game, but damn this one looks good
