Recent Kojima publicity inspired me to finally get started. Starting with Ground Zeroes and I'm a bit obsessed with it. Part because it's very good and part because it's giving me a hiding. No Soliton Radar, no Hitman see-through-walls superpowers. The AI and what they can see is levels above what I'm used to in Hitman. In the opening couple of rounds I was cowered behind cover scared to move. Am getting a better feel for it now but still getting regularly caught out. I managed a no-retry run through the main mission last night but it was definitely more a carnage mission than sneaking mission. Depsite the messiness it was immensely satisfying to get it done. Am going to have fun with this.

Need to work out how to get past the 60fps cap though. Candy have you run this game at higher refresh rates and if yes does it fuck with the physics at all? My few minutes of looking into it has proven inconclusive. Some say it's fine, others say it's not.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Yeah, the physics are tied to 60fps if I remember correctly. I could be wrong!

It wouldn’t hurt to try.

Ta flip will give it a go.

Had another gripping session with Ground Zeroes last night. Got Paz first this time. Was tranq'ing my way through but tranqs aren't consistent. Headshots are instant and three body shots work quickly - for the most part but not always. I'm finding single shots can be brushed off and do nothing. Empty another couple, still seemingly nothing. Also dudes with tranqs in their head wake up at varying stages. At one point I'm luring guards by switching the power off. I choke them out then put a dart in their head. I'm choking my fourth guard out when suddenly one comes to and starts waking up his mates. Wha? I've got dudes up the road still sleeping. This is not how videogames are supposed to behave. More tranqs. In the end I ran out of tranqs and had to resort to lethal force. Blew my ranking but I was having too much fun to care. Paz and another prisoner extracted ok so onto Chico. I'm silently taking guards out. Lined up a dude across the way and my suppressor fails?! Did not know this happens. I've gone loud and bloody, base on full alert. I grab Chico and sprint to the landing zone. Clean up a couple more guards while waiting for the chopper and we're out. Best B ranked mission I've ever played.

I only set it to 60fps as my TV only spits out 60Hz.

Slumming it in the gaming ghetto, 4K 60fps games :(

I actually preferred GZ to TPP, had a real blast with it. Its not that TPP is bad, just seems that GZ was more refined and I enjoyed learning the map. Got all but one trophy.

Really need to finish MGSV. Put 30 hours into it and then stopped. Need to continue the run, since MGS on the PSX never failed to complete an MGS game. The longest it ever took me to finish a game was MGS3, about 5 years of off/on game play.

MGSV is amazing, I've started it again.

2nd best MGS ever behind 3.

I hated MGS 3 at first, it wasn't until Subsistence arrived and fixed the camera issues that I really enjoyed it. Would like to play remasters of the first 4 games on PC at some point but not looking likely given the relationship between Konami and Kojima.

The relationship between Konami and sense.

I can barely remember MGS4. I remember 1, 2 & 3 well. Starting GZ/PP makes me want to play Peace Walker.

I remember liking 4 but can't remember anything of the story. The original MGS is still the most memorable. Chances of getting a remake are almost zero which is unfortunate.

After 20 or so hours of tooling in Ground Zeroes I started MGSV and it's as per the thread and general critical acclaim. I tried playing it with a controller and fuck me it was horrible. It's been years since I've controlled an action game with a pad. It's not the aiming, it's the looking. Poor Snake's head was bouncing around like his neck was broken. Mouse-look any day of the year. On-screen prompts still referencing controller sticks notwithstanding, the game runs perfectly well with KBAM, sneaking included.

Now I'm in the open world it's decidedly less supernatural and MGS-interactive-movie but the game is fucking brilliant.

Yep. The intro section is typical MGS, but once you reach the open world section it’s a completely different game.

Adoring this game. 65 or so hours and 26% complete. I'm already in permanent raptures over the field stealth/combat gameplay along with base management/combat deployments. Last night I'm on the Medical platform watching Quiet writhing in her cell. Spin Me Round by Dead or Alive is on in the back ground. I walk up some stairs in a nearby building and notice I can enter a room. Cue cutscene. Won't post the spoiler but those who've played will likely remember. WTF. Such a surprise. Total gaming moment.

I'm only up to mission 21 of the campaign. Been mucking around with a lot of side ops missions and the open world to build up mother base. I avoid using checkpoints and prefer to play a mission out regardless of whether it goes to shit. The game is good enough that it's more fun and exciting to play this way. My approach is very much Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro in the movie Heat) - prefer not to kill but will not hesitate to do so if needed. Mission 19 (escort kids) was a fucking amazing session.

Counting down the minutes to a 2pm finish here at work.

This game up aonther notch after unlocking FOBs (forward operating bases). To think I thought I was over-staffed. Have spent ages developing Security Team equipment and tweaking my FOB defenses. I've since visited my FOB and it seems pretty well defended. I've invaded a few player FOBs. The rewards are certainly worth the risk of counter-attack.

This game is among the best handful I've ever played. Top 5, probably top 3, maybe best ever. Totally sublime in every way. Why didn't anyone tell me to drop what I was playing and install it? Oh wait, you did.

Finished the story last night. I had no idea that was coming. What an ending. Still digesting it.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Post by Peppermint Lounge »

Yes have viewed it. It certainly resolves a tonne of stuff the published ending leaves hanging. We need a cashed up entity to buy the license from Konami so Kojima can finish it as he intended, or continue the series. Sony, Microsoft, Bethesda or similar. Would prefer one that publishes on PC.
